So you have to ask yourself, you can have a Chica that smokes weed and gives you the full monty, or a Chica that doesn't smoke weed and has lots of rules and regulations. I have never had to do the registration thing and neve had to show my passport to get it.

Also as for needing to buy credit as well, yes it is true you may have to but the sim card will come with a small amount of credit so it is possible to use it and get more credit using your card.

My last one I bought in the corner shop for 4000 COP 4 months ago and I still haven't used all the credit.

Be prepared for this possible scenario, she insists that you venture with her into deeply depressed barrios where she can buy weed on the cheap or from her network of friends. When you arrive she instructs you to wait for her, alone, as it is not safe for you to go further. That may be true, or, she just doesn't want to be seen with you in there. 1) For local calls, SMS, and for moving around at night in questionable places, buy a traditional old plain GSM phone from any small shop (a brand new Nokia working on American bands costed me 20 k COP some years ago). Buy a disposable prepaid SIM card for it, for few dollars. I did register my GSM phone at a Claro point several years ago, but Mr. Knowledge says that now it is even simpler ([URL]http://www.internationalsexguide.nl/forum/showthread.php?583-Medellin-Reports&p=2500658&viewfull=1#post2500658[/URL]).
Having this phone will allow you to call anyone also from bad streets or "nidos de perros" without attracting unwanted attention.

2) In Colombia, I would NOT suggest to put a local SIM card in your personal phone, and for a variety of reasons:
- you need to register your phone, or it will be be blocked in a few days (once blocked, you cannot go back);
- unless you have a dual SIM, you will have to give your Colombia number to your relatives and work colleagues in your country to be contacted during your travel (do they know you are in Colombia?).
If you keep your SIM in your phone, your phone will NOT have to be registered in Colombia: it will work in roaming. Disable data roaming to not be overcharged, and connect to wifi for all data applications. Your family and work colleagues might not even know you are in Colombia, as your phone will ring as if you were in your country (there is a pitfall here: if you are out of reach, the recorded message will be from the Colombia operator, reveling where you were before switching off the phone).

3) Buy a 4G mobile Wifi modem (mifi), where you will put the local prepaid cheap SIM. This is a small investment, which will be worth for years of travels anywhere you go in the world.
You will have to register that IMEI, unless you buy it from an operator of your country (in that case, it is preregistered. I have never registered mine, and it was never blocked). Go around (except questionable places where you do not want to have anything of value with you) with your mifi in your pocket. Your personal wifi will be with you and around you at all times. Your phone will be always online, using data from your mifi, but in roaming for voice. The only precaution is to avoid to answer calls, because roaming calls may be expensive, and call back using SkypeOut or WeChatOut, nearly for free.

All this sounds complicated when you read it, but once you do it you will be happy and without hassle for many years of travels.

I differ on your assessment I don't think you have the prior story. I am in Colombia and was with her recently and had an amazing time. Weed is a common use globally so her issue is not an oddity especially with young people. The problem could be more me in that I only smoke a tiny bit of weed prior to sex and look at smoking it otherwise as a weakness or nuisances. I didn't seen signs of a hoodrat. I definitely saw that in the girl afterwards. I did grab a blunt from a taxi driver who gave me his contact so I won't be heading into any barrios. Though I want to do a nightclub / bar in the barrios. It should go down today. The sex and the body was amazing. No kids. Will keep yall posted. I don't discount your assessment. Just doubt it.

I honestly the taxi drive which is 25-30 mil retired me along with covid. I do like the strip clubs, the fruit markets and other things in the area. So its not a bad place overall. I prefer laureles, castellana, colores, san juan casas. But I might try an airbnb in the centro area though, before I leave.

Here's my plan. I'll travel with my main phone and cheap back up costing around 70 euro.

When mongering in the streets, collecting numbers, using love motels my back up phone comes with me and my main phone stays at my accommodation.

For my back up phone I'll have a local sim and plan and register the phone if need be. I'll also have what's app on it and use maps etc.

Whilst at the Airbnb I'll use my main phone on WiFi to keep in touch with friends family or do my emailing or whatever. If I go on a tour I'll also take it with me to take pictures.

If I need Internet on my main phone outside of the Airbnb I'll use the hot-spot on the back up phone.

Am I missing something regarding MiFi as I like to keep things simple?

Dual SIM phone greatly simplifies international travel.

I have and old phone that I used before I got my current one so I won't be getting a SIM for my new one. I will try getting one for the phone I don't use anymore and register in online then so I can have internet and can call the girls if I need to. I'm heading down tomorrow so I'm pretty excited! I don't like to carry much cash on me when I arrive, has anyone had issues getting cash out of the ATMs at the airport? Or should I exchange some cash and then use the ATMs in the city?
