My final humorous point. There is so much negativity here when white guys strike out at thermae or get turned away from Japanese dominated places and comfort themeselves crying into their beers about east Asians being 3 minutes three inches and 3 k baht. That the world has changed and being white Caucasian is not as unique an advantage as before. The Chinese will arrive more and more with more money and they will steal the top notch girls that the white guys desire. So I smile, raise my glass to those who try to rationalize their own inherent dislike of Indians based on anecdotes and say enjoy your world, I'll enjoy mine.
Very nicely stated. India and China are two fastest growing economies today. The middle class of India today has more disposable income and believes in spending on tourism. The middle class of both China and India together vastly outnumber the total population of western world. One may like it or hate it but the world is going to see more and more tourists from these two countries in future. Yes majority Indians lack the etiquette and manners when it comes to behavior in public but that will change with exposure to outside world. Chinese had the same problem till a few years back but they are a improved lot now.
Farangs are the most stereotyped homo sapiens in LOS.
Not Indians.
As far as skin colour goes if you have the money you will get as much poontang as you want from these money hungry providers here in Thailand.
So, don't be a Cheap Charlie and good, good times are in store for you.
Don't forget it. Money is K**g here. Not skin colour or body odour. Those that think otherwise are kidding themselves.
LOL. Very good post. Farangs are usually stereotyped in a positive way. I agree money is what it's all about. But etiquette is very important as well. And Body Odor is a deal killer. While many people love curry, most people do not want to smell it on you.

With the poor service, bad 'tudes, and high prices, this is exactly what the scene is screaming for. Mainland punters are demanding and will not put up with poor service, bad attitudes, or gals whose guts look like they have been run over by an M1 tank and whose breasts look like prunes. They'll scream and raise hell with the gals and the mamasans. They will also run all the other punters off, well, except for perhaps the some of the Indians. The Japanese, Koreans, HKers, Taiwanese, Malaysians, Singaporeans, and Westerners will be repelled. The working gals here will long for the days a nice farang who actually wanted to please her as well was norm, even if he did only want to pay 1. 5 k. It's going to be enjoyable to watch. I've actually seen some mainlanders in places like Tulip. The gals are none too pleased to see them.
It's also surprising that Asians got only 6%. And the 12% for Americans isn't very impressive either.
12% for North Americans is pretty impressive when you consider that less than 12% of the tourist population is from North America. That's a long flight!
I agree though that only 6 percent for Asians such as Japanese doesn't make much sense.

From my perspective Indians seem despised because they are seen as generally argumentative, which is true, they are generally stingy, which is true, they have cultural norms that are different to Westerners and east and south east asians, which is true and they Have dark skin. There are many cultures that have exactly the same first three features. I could argue southern Europeans from Greece and eastern European are the same. However they are fair skinned so it is tolerated. I could argue that Chinese also have some of those features. Perhaps they are less stingy..
What a wonderfully written piece. This should be a sticky. And from and Aussie no less (for those who miss it, that was a joke).
The point is that we all use some form of discrimination in our daily lives. If we do not, we cannot function. Whether we discriminate based on weight, breast size, hair color, smell, or behavior.
We discriminate when we have to make choices.
However, by definition, treating all people of one color or race the same because a small percentage of their population behaves badly is called Racism.
I am of the belief that if 51% of certain race behaves badly, then the stereotype is deserved. However, that does not make it any less acceptable.
Boys, I understand the reasons for the bad name that Indians have. Just don't try to tell me that justifies treating all Indians the same.

Can't tell you how many times I've told a Thai person I am from USA and they've said, "Europe?" I've told them California and they think that is somewhere in Australia. I think they would know the difference between Asian groups. But doubt they really know if the blonde couple standing in front of them is from Norway or Canada.
Hi guys,
My trip to BKK planned and booked. Anyone in the area from the 15th this month.
Chico.

They just know I am a farang.
Here are some opinion poll percentages for you. FWIW I believe the 1% that Indian and Middle East tourists received was rounded up from 0. 3%, which is mathematically closer to ZERO:

Most Thais would have no idea where a farang comes from, even after they have spoken with them. As a white Caucasian, I have difficulty distinguishing races, and certainly cannot do it by sight alone.
Filipinos have no idea where I come from unless I tell them. Classic recent responses have been "Australia! Is that near America?" or "Australia! Is that same as English?
I suggest the racial profiling by Asians occurs at a very simple level and depends on whether skin is white, brown or black, and has little to do with where you come from.
How much is the cheapest airfare from an Indian city to Bangkok?
Lets cut right to the heart of the problem. Its not the Indians in general but the class of Indians that are visiting. Lets blame the cheap airline fares and the super cheap rooms that allow 4 guys to a room. If airfare was as cheap as it is from India to Thailand all over the world you'd be talking about the trash being brought from all over the world. Raise the price of airfare and hotel restrictions on single guys to a room and the problem goes away.
LOL. I wrote in another post how the people from the subcontinent are changing the demographics of guests in middle range hotels in the US and elsewhere. In some of the service apartments and rooms with kitchens, the smell of curry floats down of the hallways on weekends at places I have frequented for decades. The other Asians are their too but the instant noodles do not carry such strong oders. Heh heh

As some have pointed out, skin color does matter but the color of your money and the thickness of the stack is what ultimately counts. The chinese tourist will be a threat soon because the cost of pussy in their home country is going to rise with the crack downs and growing economy.
