Disagree respectfully with this. I think there is something more to add to the mix here. We've all seen the PYT with the grandpa-cano in philippines, both in AC and in the province. It seems the only country where this happens (19 y.o. girl and a 67 y.o. man with a cane and holding hands). While Sammon says "young girls do not find it odd... with old people...", I disagree. She is VERY aware of the oddity of this. She is VERY aware of what she is displaying. So is everyone else. Is it a boon for us? Yes! But, I think all the parties are aware that its some form of prostitution (the girl, the man, her family, and the public who has to view them). You will not see young girls holding hands or having an open relationship with a filipino man who is 20-30-40 years older. When I lived there and I felt that life there was getting too much, I would arrange multiple business trips and being away from the place allowed the sense of fun to return.

Now I dont live there anymore I love my trips there.

That's why girls who fuck guys of their age (even for money) are not considered hookers, and those who fuck older guys are tagged as hookers. I think we are not beging judgemental. I think we are simply calling it what it is: the trade of youth/beauty/sex for stability and money. There's no judgement in it, I just think all parties are aware of what it is. Sometimes while everyone is aware of what is going on, the older cano don't think the girl or the locals know what is going on. That's just not true. In fact, its the elephant in the room. Whether with a cano visit, or with marriage of youth/beauty to old/fat/money, everyone knows what is going on. The problem comes when one party does not think the other party knows/cares. That's delusional thinking. The marriage of youth/beauty to old/fat/money happens everywhere, its just more open in filipines.

To the far other end of the spectrum, you also have prostitution involved in traditional marriage of similar-aged individuals. The legal definition of marriage involves financial support. The civil ceremony pledges to have and to hold. Thus, you have a juxtaposition of money and sex. Thus, marriage = legalized prostitution. :)

I feel the same FF.
I have lived here now for almost 14 years and I am lucky because every year I get around 2 or 3 opportunities to escape to either Australia or some other SE Asian destination for 2 or 3 months at a time because of work opportunities. I feel I would burn out if I didn't get out every now and then to recharge and enjoy different experiences.
There are more things here that I enjoy (that's why I am still here) than those that annoy me, but the things that aggravate me really push me close to the "edge" some days.
Life in the Phils is a roller-coaster of emotions (literally) and sometimes the ride changes day by day

On my next trip AC will be my first destination in the Phils. Are micro sim cards (iphone) that easy to buy like "normal" sim cards. I wld like to use my iphone with a prepaid micro sim card. Are they sold in any mobile shop or do I have to go to some specialized sellers? Thanks in advance for your replies.

Thanks in advance for your replies.[/QUOTE]They arent available in the normal smartbuddy reload type shops but in most malls there are some "normal" phone shops as well as pc shops.. they have the micro sd cards with the adapters cards for viewing your snaps of the Yolly, Evelyn and Jhengs that you will be meeting... lol. Most malls have got the normal Kodak camera stores if you need the normal SD camera cards too.

A buddy living in Manila answered the same question for me just the other day. She told me that you have to go to the official store of the carrier of your choice, which you will find in any mall. There, they have prepaid micro sims available. You're not likely to find micros in the smaller, non-official stores that are everywhere.

As of now, the score this year, atleast 6 of my friends have lost their phones, snatched while in Jeepney / bus / MTR. And no sir, they are not the type who make up that story expecting you to replace the lost phone. Genuine cases. And most are switching to keeping the iphones at home and carrying cheaper phones. In case of loss. The loss is lesser. And on average, almost 90% of our company's Manila office staff have lost one phone or more. And all are snatch victims.

Almost happened to me atleast three times last year. One guy asking if he can take a look-see at my phone, another accidentally seeming to swipe some dust off my phone. And third bumping into me hoping I drop my phone. I always add a small lanyard to the phone that wraps around my finger, and in Phil, my N97 goes into lock up and out comes my cheap Nokia phones. And I only carry my N97 in instance where I need to take it along.

Be careful.come Christmas, be extremely careful. Maligayong Pasko. Walang celebration. So. Snatch a phone.
