That's some good info about the sim cards, thanks. I guess it is similar for aquiring a regular sim card for local service. I have a quad-band phone already unlocked -- so it's just a question of buying a card locally and paying for some minutes, right?

Second Question: Converting US Dollars (Cash)

Do you get a better rate changing US Cash Dollars or Travelers Checks?

What about denominations? Do you get a better rate with a $100 bill vs. a $20 bill? ...or does it not really matter?

Any guidance here would be great.

Travellers Cheques - avoid. The rate is not that important, it is finding somewhere to change them. The Phils is one place where you need to check up with your travellers cheque supplier on locations where they can be changed. IF (and it is a big IF) the hotel agrees to change them, then the rate will be crap too.

I never had a problem with the bill size. Maybe if you went down to single dollars they might have a problem, especially if it wasn't crisp and clean.

ATM cards don't necessarily work in all machines. You will definitely find machines that work, but you might have to walk a bit to access the one you need. Also the local banks put on a fee for poreigners' ATM cards, make sure your Etrade card also covers local fees.

What you do need to take care about is older US notes. Many of the changers won't accept anything but the most recent design.

I often use a British Caxton FX pre-paid currency cards whilst travelling, which offers excellent exchange rates and no fees.

In the Philippines, I have used the card at HSBC (also allowing higher withdrawal limits) without any charges. I received a rate of about 65 pesos per pound, recently. That days rate was 67.

The card has not worked at any other bank that I have tried.

In mongering situation we are striving for zero procreation.
I did not know money is distributed according to genetics! We fuck, we give money, and ofcourse we run to find another willing hole for fun.
