... so go up to Arrivals, cross the road and grab a cab before they are moved on by the police. Offer them 300 Bht (including tolls on the Expressway) and they will bite your arm off.
You mean departures.
Btw, PAD just closed Suvarnabhumi airport, interesting to see how this plays out

Lay over
Check bags on onward flight. Get boarding pass. Set up flight status report to mobile phone. Taxi to Tulip. Be back in taxi by 1730 or so because of traffic. Done.
Only trouble: be prepared to have to pay the departure fee of BKK airport of 500TBT to get back into the departure.
But easily possible othertwise.
Did it. Liked it. Will do anytime again given the opportunity.

Transit Fun
Hi!
I would be transiting through BKK next month.
In 2006 I had pulled off a good transit fun in Eden. That time I guess it was old Airport and I had 6+ hrs with me. It was comfortable.
How far is Sukhumvit from new Suvarnabhumi Airport? I would had some 5+ hrs with me. Is the traffic predictable these days or still it is bad BKK traffic? Also, I will have to spend 45min-60min for Visa on arrival.
Does anyone think 5+ hrs is enough to go to Eden and come back? (15:00 to 20:30 hrs)
Regards

The departure tax is now in the ticket. No more having to pay it in cash as you leave.

This might help.
Landed at new Airport 1745 Hrs last Sunday
Exit Plane 1800; Direct to Visa on Arrival
Completed Visa and on our way by 1815
Public Metered Taxi to Sukhumvit Soi 11 at 1820
Checked In Hotel at 1850
Taxi Fare 270 Baht plus Tolls on Highway
So if you have 6 hours, you have plenty of time.
Cheers, Fifty Fifty

What's all this Visa on Arrival crap?
I just get passport stamped at Immigration.
I presume VISA only required for long stays in Thailand for many Countries.
This web site shows how many days you can stay with no VISA at all:

VISA on arrival required for Countries that would be expected to try to stay in Thailand rather than return to own country LOL ;) (could be any country IMHO)

From your link - "15 = Can enter 15 days as tourists (Visa on arrival)"
Technically we are in the wrong thread here, but here is all the Official Crap on Thailand Visa Requirements
http://www.mfa.go.th/web/2637.php
It explains the need for Visa on Arrival (Crap) for certain Nationalities.

Thailand has agreements with several countries allowing the issuance of "visas on arrival" to citizens. When you arrive in Thailand, your passport is stamped with a short term visa, usually 30 days, without the necessity of applying to an Embassy, etc.

Yes but for a lot of Countries you just don't need it.

Yeah, you're talking about other S.E. Aisa countries, such as Laos, Veitnam, Cambodia, who's citizens can come and go without a visa, just like Americans can visit Canada without a visa.

No, No. Look at the web site I provided.
USA, UK, Australia, Germany France, etc. do not need any VISA for short stays in Thailand.
Being from Australia I can stay 30 days with no VISA.
Some countries only get 15 days with no VISA.

A visa is simply your permission to vist Thailand on a temporary basis. There are several different kinds of visas. When immigration stamps your passport at the airport, upon your arrival, that stamp is a visa which grants you permission to stay for 30 days. Americans can get the same. Some other countries get only 15 days with their visa, but it is still a visa.
Look at the stamp -- it says: "VISA" followed by the date you must leave Thailand.
Permission to stay for longer periods of time, and upon different conditions, require a different kind of visa obtained by application to the Thai embassy or consulate in your home country.
The website is misleading in this regard.
Maybe we're arguing semantics here. :)

At the times you have traffic can be problematic. You might make Sukhumvit in thirty minutes, you might make it in three hours. One never knows. Especially with the trouble in BKK these days.
Visa on arrivial is usually pretty quick. If you are from the U.S. you just need a stamp in your passport from immigration.

Visa Visa Usa!
I had to deal with this shit last summer. I was rushing to get out of the states and did not investigate the possibilities about duration/ length of stay. The deal is that if you apply and send in your passport to the Thai Embassy in the USA, you can apply and get a 60 day visa. I do not know the cost, but just look it up.
But if you just arrive in Thailand the only way to extend the visa is to do either a border run to Cambodia and deal with the assholes that work immigration there, or pay a shit-load of Baht (I believe it was around 180.00 dollars). at the Thai immigration and get an extra 15days WHoo HOO!.
Otherwise if your there for a short stay just opt for the free 30 day visa upon arrival!!!
Cheers
