Just to the North of Bali lies Makassar, South Sulawesi.
It can be a gritty port city but it has some lovely plusses. It is Indonesia proper after the tourist laden streets of Bali.

Or for those who know what they want, you March straight upstairs with your chosen lady from the bars. On way back from Clarion to Jalan Nusantara before 2AM closing, picked up a SW although havent seen SW before in Makassar, paid too much but it was convenient and we pay them to go away afterwards not for what they do.

What I can say is Balikpapan is an expensive place. The hotels are expensive but I have not had the opportunity with a girl there as I was having a freebie then. This is due to the fact that you have pointed out that it is rich oil & coal and rich with expatriates too.
However you might like to try out Bahtera Hotel. The boss also owns the Bahtera Hotel in Tarakan which houses a disco, karaoke and health club.

Balikpapan is a great little town once you know your way around. I lived there for 6 months in '99 and got so much pussy just driving around fronting chicks waiting for buses or just walking. Also the malls are pretty good place just like anywhere else in Indo.

The Arab fronts up finds some chick he likes then marries her in the Mosque then leaves her when he goes back home.
Like a holiday bride then divorce her at the end of the holiday. This has been a well known activity for the last ten years or so. Have read several articles in the local papers about this practice.

My GF told me a similar story about a mosque somewhere in Jakarta-Kota. Arabs can choose a "bride" in a room nearby, then marry her in the mosque and after the marryage ceremony they immediately receive divorce papers dated 3, 4, 5.... days later. The "dowery" the man has to pay also depends on the intended length of the marriage. In this way both man and girl are respectable and do not live in sin.

Rates for WG's have gone absolutely crazy down in this neck of the woods due to Redpath miners from Canada working at Freeport Gold Mine.
