Paid one of my increasingly infrequent visits to LA Café over the weekend and found a real winner – and I mean a star!! A 19 year old, 4’ 11”, 90 pound Samartian girl, she was a ‘sure’ girl. Everything I asked her to do – the reply was the same – ‘sure’. She was such a fun girl – didn’t jump up and get dressed after the agreed 2nd pop, but stayed and chatted and cuddled until she eventually coaxed a fantastic third out of me. It takes a really special girl to do that, these days, over a short session, not withstanding her devotion to duty:D.

Astonishing thing, considering her youth, was her oral talents. She said that she learned it for a Filipino boyfriend, but she gave the most incredible, knee trembling BJ with amazing …cue drum roll….deep throat technique. Best I’ve ever encountered in The Philippines, and I’ve had one or two;).

This is why, despite the place and the area being the pits, the LA Café is still Numero Uno for freelance talent. Never fails to surprise as to what you can find there.

I’m interested to know if anyone else has encountered J____. I don’t need to describe her in any more detail – you will remember her if you have been with her!!

First I want to thank everyone for so much information regarding fun in The Philippines. I’ve been reading for sometime now and it seems to me that I have to definitely visit LA Café, no visit to Manila would be complete otherwise. I also want to visit EDSA.

I’ll be in Manila in a week and I’m confused about EDSA, looking at maps I see that EDSA is a street. I was told that I have to stay at the Shangri-La in EDSA. Then, I saw that EDSA is very popular in the forum so I was very happy. I am not sure as to where the places everyone talks about are, it seems to me that the EDSA complex is near the airport. Could someone clarify that please? I am interested in Firehouse and others in the vicinity.

Another point is that I’ll be working at night. Reading the forum it seems to me that things go on pretty late, but even is I leave early I don’t think I could make it before 6:00AM. Does anyone know if that would still be OK?

Thanks again for all the good info, I’ll keep reading but will appreciate some advice.

EDSA is an acronym, stands for someone's name, you can google it..is a long highway. Anyway, you tell the taxi driver you want the "Firehouse at EDSA extension, across from Heritage Hotel." If they don't know where it is, get out of the taxi and get another taxi. You can also pick up a map of Manila, sold at most USA bookstores (if you are in USA), and find a lot of places, or buy Lonely Planet travel guide and find it in there. Hope that helps. HAVE FUN.

EDSA is a long and twisting avenue. What you want is EDSA entertainment complex which is across from heritage hotel. If the taxi driver does not know, ask to go to Heroitage Hotel and walk across overbridge.

Mr. H gave you accurate information. Here's a little more. The Shangri-La is in the Makati area, a few blocks from Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA), the highway. The EDSA entertainment complex is West of there, near the intersection of EDSA and Harrison, in Pasay City. If the taxi driver doesn't know the EDSA entertainment complex, tell him to take you to the intersection of EDSA and Harrison. If he doesn't know that, he's not from Manila; get rid of him. It is, as Mr. H pointed out, across EDSA from the Heritage hotel. The Heritage is on the South side of EDSA (nearer the airport); EDSA complex is on the North side.

The entrance to the EDSA complex is just a couple of doors and a few concrete steps. You'll know it's the place because of taxis and touts standing outside offering to introduce you to all sorts of vices. Ignore them and walk through the doors like you already know the place. Inside there are various clubs opening into a big open area in the middle. Doormen at the various clubs and/or women at the doors will try to coax you in. Various detailed reports have been offered about some of the individual clubs.

EDSA complex is not open all night. I've only been there in the early evening, so can't tell you how late it closes or how early it opens. The LA Cafe is open 24 hours, rain or shine, and there are usually pay4play independents there at all hours. You can sometimes get some real bargains there at 6 am, since girls who work at EDSA or on Burgos Ave. in Makati sometimes go there after their own bars close if they have not been barfined at their usual bars. But do be on the lookout for drunks and druggies in LA in the early morning hours. Make sure to engage them in conversation long enough to figure out whether you're getting somebody who's more or less sober.

If you go to LA, you will need a taxi back to the Shangri-La. Some recommend avoiding the taxis right in front of LA. Instead go straight out of LA and continue ahead one block on Romero-Salas to the 7-11 at the corner of Mabini, and get your taxi there. Other people turn right out the door of LA and go about a block and a half on Romero-Salas the other direction (toward Manila Bay) until you get to Roxas Boulevard or its frontage road, and wave down a cab there.

I wouldn't walk far from LA Cafe. It's a horrible area. I was robbed by 4 thugs. And from what I now here, lucky I didn't resist at all.

I'm not old; I'm in shape'; I wasn't drunk. They just decided to forcefully rob me.

You've been warned. There's folks on here who swear the area around there is as safe as your living room.

Actually there are two Shagrila hotels. Shagrila Makati on the corner of Ayala Ave and Makati Ave. This is the one closer to the EDSA entertainment center. And the EDSA Shagrila which is actually in Ortigas Center, Pasig near the SM MegaMall, which depending on traffic can be over an hour away from the EDSA entertainment center. Late at night (after 1-2am) it can be pretty quick though, say 20-30 min.

Is this something new? Can anyone confirm?

It's been a while since I went to EDSA, but my alcohol-addled memory says 8pm is the opening time.

It's been mentioned before this whole incident that this area is seedy and that there are a lot of poor people on the streets there. For someone who keeps on harping on what seems to be a fluke of bad luck, I wonder why he seems surprised that this could happen when this area has been talked about before. If you had done your research, you knew that the possibility was there that petty crime could happen and it did. Violently robbed has been used quite a bit to describe this incident, but we still don't know the details of what type of violence. I think it would help the people on this board if you could describe in detail exactly how it all transpired, not just saying you were violently robbed. How so? Was there a knife to your neck, or a gun to your head, or were you knocked down to the ground and pinned? That would be violent.

For newbies looking for information, please don't take that everyone here who is talking know's what they are talking about or whatever someone says is 100% correct. You don't have to take my word for it, but really there are some people here who think they know but they don't. It's not always easy to see who does or doesn't. Posts count or the title of "Senior Member" is not a shoe in that the person can be of assistance to you. You can look back at what someone posts to get an ideal sometimes.

Now going back to the Ermita/Malate area. As mentioned this area is a little dodgy. If you are truly new to the third world scene and traveling, it's probably not the best place to get your feet wet. It's dark at night and there are poor people on the streets. Sometimes a little pack of kids will come up to you at the same time and paw at you, while one tries to pickpocket you. Lots of beggars here also. If you can't handle this sort of thing, I suggest you not bother coming here. In the PI there are lots of poor people here. The information is here to read. There are lots of posts, you just have to take the time to read through them to get more than just the gist.

Some might think something is not right. If someone is like that, PI is probably not a good fit for them.

The worst was my own fault and while walking back to Thr Rotman Hotel (I Think) I fell (as is easy to do on those sidewalks) and broke my fall with the palm of my hand and (as luck would have it) I cut it on some glass in the small ditch!

I Australia I could have sued the local council, but in Manila you're on your own! Luckily I was with a customer of mine and all ended well!

Tips to avoid being robbed around LA cafe
1. Do not overdress. LA cafe is a casual place.
2. Do not flash money, jewellery etc.
3. Do not walk on the side streets later at night. Stick to main roads.
Manila being a big city there are always many people walking on major
roads. It is unlikely somebody will try to rob you when there are many
people around.
4. Carry some coins so that you can get rid of some children right away
rather than they cling on to you. Gives them more time to feel your
pockets.
5. Carry only 1000-1200 pesos. That is all needed to spend some time
in LA cafe. No barfine to pay. Never carry wallet or foreign currency.
6. If you see the street is deserted wait till some people are walking
before you proceed.
7. If you are kind of drunk pick a girl and walk with her. You reasonably safe
if you are with a local girl unless she is in on it. Besiodes the girl does
not want to loose her money.
8. Most important is just ignore all the shady characters who try to talk to
you .
9. Avoid walking alone on the street bet 2 am - 4 am. That is when the
robbers tend to target people.
10. I know this has been said many times. Never get a taxi in front of
LA cafe. Walk one block to mabini and hail a cruising taxi.
