Last night, we have the intention of going to Onyx. Also, she never advertised herself as half Korean. It was part of my conversation with her when talking about her family that she mentioned her South Korean father had left her Uzbek mother when she was five, and had not met and talked to her biological father much. Her mother had since remarried to a local and she has two half siblings in her family.

There has apparently been some controversy over this, but it is my opinion that the new canopy covering the otherwise open air central courtyard area of Nana Plaza keeps that area cooler rather than warmer in the evening as some are saying. This was more evident to me this past weekend when the evenings were a bit warmer than most since the canopy was put in place.

My initial impression when a friend and I sat at a table in Nana Beer Garden, the bar on the ground level/center courtyard of the Plaza at about 7 PM, was that it was too warm to sit there for very long. But I think that was due to the lack of enough well placed fans in their new set up. We didn't stay and moved on to somewhere else to eat and drink while watching the parade. However, with little or no perceptive reduction in the outside temperature at 9 PM, we returned to the Plaza and noticed it felt noticeably cooler in that open center area by then.

My later impression was that by then all of the go-go bars on all three levels of the Plaza had been for the previous couple of hours firing up their air conditioners with their doors wide open except for a split curtain here and there and that the canopy was effectively trapping that cool air inside the Plaza and better directing it toward the ground level even more so than cooler air is inclined to fall anyway. It hadn't happened that way by 7 PM-7:30 PM. But it seemed to be working out that way by 9 PM even though that has been a time in the Bangkok evening when I will often feel some kind of second wind wave of heat stirring up from somewhere. But at that point the canopy-covered courtyard of Nana Plaza was feeling more comfortably cooler than just a few steps outside of the Plaza.

Has anyone else noticed a difference one way or the other?

A friend and I were strolling through Thaniya Road in Silom last night about 9:30 PM and an Asian woman tout approached us in front of one of the first Karaoke bars with many lovely, young Thai girls sitting outside on the right as you walk away from the BTS. A group of about 8 Japanese guys had just been greeted and escorted into the place ahead of us. We had no intention of going in or taking any girl for the night but the tout was very keen on both of us going inside to enjoy what they had to offer. She told us it wasn't Japanese only, that men like us were more than welcome, that the "barfine" to take a girl of our choice away for 2 hours or so was 1,200 baht, that the girl expected an additional 3,000 baht for herself, that a ST room in the area would be extra (she wrote out the numbers on a small paper tablet and showed it to us) and that it would indeed be a sex happy ending of the blowjob and/or boom-boom kind. Covered or uncovered anything was not mentioned and I didn't ask this lady.

She and I engaged in a bit of small talk in Thai at one point but I don't believe my knowing any Thai language beyond "Sawatdee Khrup" (hello) mattered and more than that came after she told us the particulars anyway. So, which ones were telling the truth, those two Asian male touts highly motivated to convince us to choose their fish tank/soapy/massage shops over the Japanese Karaoke bars or the female Asian tout (mamasan?) trying very hard to get us to go into that Japanese Karaoke bar to enjoy the sexual favors of the lovely, young girls sitting outside? LOL.

I have no idea yet. But after having read and heard that these places only service Japanese customers, I am just passing along what we were told by the touts trying to get us into their respective venues last night. The girls sitting outside the Japanese Karaoke bar we were told most certainly catered to non Japanese/Asian customers did look pretty good, better than the typical groups sitting or standing outside the bars and shops in the Soi Nana and Soi Cowboy areas.
