Rants, Stupid Shit and Coronavirus in Thailand

As I'm writing this, reports from all over about the premarket price of many stocks, the indexes, etc is that it's the beginning of a crash, sparked by the whole tariff thing. For an old, poor guy like me, it won't make too much of a difference, but I just went all in on some stocks, and I suspect it's because I did that, the market is about to tank, since I have very little to no luck. It's sad how it always happens. When I buy a stock, it almost immediately thanks the very next day, sometimes the hour itself. When I sell a stock, it goes through the roof within a week. I just have no luck fellas.

But. All that being said. I did make out ok during the covid crash. As far as I know, many people did. Back in late 2020, the whole of 2021 and most of 2022, you could buy any stock and it would be up. I just wish I had more dry powder to buy now. Cause it's looking like it's going to be pretty bad, like covid, 2008 bad. What if this could be it fellas? What if I could finally time this right? Like get out of some tomorrow as the markets start tanking, then buy in cheap for some of the more expensive stock, and then watch it go back up again over the year? What if? So many ifs. I just want to get out of this life of misery and drudgery. I wish I had the courage to really live, or just unlife myself.

I wanted to put this in the 'American Politics' thread of the forum, but I don't want to get into all that. Life is sad enough for me as it is.

But in the end, this could also force me to stick with my job, cause my stock investments will be so low, I can't afford to quit. Such is the irony of life. I'd cry even more than I already am if it wasn't all so tragic. You lucky schmucks. You get to retire in lovely Thailand. Enjoy it dudes. Enjoy it for those of us that can't. Live for us. Stop complaining and bask in the Bangkok glow.

Was it really your astute investment mind that was picking those great stocks or just a general recover from the crash at the start of covid.

Read ANY actual book on economics and tariffs. Countries that impose tariffs on their citizens' imports always come out worse.

Let's say USA puts a tariff the import of Mexican tomatoes. The Mexicans continue to see their tomatoes for the same price and the landed cost to the USA distributors are now 25% higher. A third country is asked to supply more tomatoes and they know that they no longer have to be as competitive. So the third country increases it's selling price but stays below the Mexico + tariff price. The USA importer is still paying more. A fourth country now picks up discounted tomatoes from the Mexican surplus. None of this has benefited he USA. Which farmer in the USA wants to grow tomatoes when the second country could always decrease price again?

The tariffs didn't work in 2019 and lead to 39,000 next USA job losses. The pain of these was explained by covid and covered by printing cash. The USA may not be so lucky this time.

Mongering in Thailand will also be cheaper (except for the USA citizens where there is the real risk we may see the USD devalue).

It's good to see Canada and Mexico respond quickly to join the tariff war and expose the fallacy.

Am I the only one who has a doctor note saying that I have allergy to chicken meat besides the breast? I use this to make sure I don't ever get a wing, thigh, or drumstick at KFC or McDs in Thailand. When you order fried chicken, they not let you choose. And that's when my doctor note comes in to play. I need to get max protein for my baht. Chicken breast is like 25 g or more. The other pieces are same price, smaller, skimpy and less protein. This is an Alpha maneuver for this 1300 kilocalorie and 55 grams protein meal. 1/2 my daily intake to get 100+ grams. I always ask for no salt fries to make sure they are hot and fresh. Then ask for packet of salt for my chicken (wink wink). Coke Zero of course. LOL. Like the Dalai Lama once said, "Easy peasey. ".

When Obama took over yes we had a crash or sort I believe it was somewhere around 7,000 the Dow lets use that when Trump took over it was around 18,000, when the pandemic it was close to 30,000 projected to go to 40,000, the pandemic pushed it back down to near 19,000 when Biden took office it had climb back to 30,000. I don't take sides as to who is President Dem or Rep, take whatever you want trade war, bear market, but even if you are in a bear market you can still make money depending on your investment.

Proof, In 2012, I had a number of Mutual Funds investment for different companies I started to re-balance my portfolio one in particular with Vanguard, I don't do individual stocks I don't have the stomach for it, for me Mutual funds long term balance is the way I roll, most of my advice research is done by myself but what I learn advised comes from two friends I grew up with married, a fund many retired with Charles Schwab and a CPA with one of the largest firms in the USA.

I decided to take my Vanguard account in 2012, took 50,000 USD, kept it in his current state IRA, since 2013, it has grown to close to 300,000 USD, I started to take my RMD 2024 I had to take the required RMD MINIMUM which based on the yearly ending amount RIGHT NOW AROUND 8. 000 USD, WHICH WHEN EXCHANGE RATE IS HIGH I BREAK TO THAILAND AND SAFE IT FOR MEDICAL PURPOSES!

Right now I have rebalance the portfolio last two years my yearly return is higher that what my RMD is required which is close to 11%.

Which is what my response was based on. Now you're giving us anecdotal stories about your particular portfolio. Even the Dow Jones Industrial Average is not the entire USA Stock Market. It is only 30 stocks. The S&P 500 Index is a bit more accurate as a measure of the market, which is why Wall Street generally refers to it as a measure of "the market", but, obviously that is only 500 different company stocks. Financial media refers to those because they are lazy and most viewers recognize those names. But the Wilshire 5000 Total Market Index would be more accurate as a measure of what the "total" market is doing than those two.

And whether you came out ahead in your particular portfolio or not is immaterial as to whether the broad USA Stock Market, including everything in the Dow, everything in the S&P 500, everything in the NASDAQ and so on, closed more than 20% below its previous all-time closing high in December 2108 and again in 2020, which it did and that is the definition of a Bear Market Decline.

Yes, if your portfolio was an index based on the stocks in the Dow or in the S&P 500 you would have come out ahead after the Obama, Trump and Biden admonistrations if you had remained in the market and not bailed out at the bottom of a Bear Market Decline, which is something many investors tend to do in the event of a Bear Market.

And, sorry if my now pointing out that there were no Bear Market Declines during the 8 Obama years and the 4 Biden years but there were two of them in the 4 previous Trump years gives you the impression I am a Trump hater. But whether someone loves or hates Trump does not change the data and historical facts.
