1. The beard. If it's your identity do NOT shave it. You are 58 not 25. As such, the girls will look at your clothes, wallet and smile before your beard. If the clothes look decent and suggest cash, and you are not a cheap Charlie so buy drinks etc, and are polite to them, I would be literally amazed if you get a single rejection because of your beard. There will be many times you won't be able to connect and all too often you will be asking for the password. Outstanding location, huge decent rooms, good (but pricey) buffet breakfast. Not a lot of choice at the breakfast buffet but the food is very good IMHO. To get to Soi 6 it is best to walk from the hotel to Second Road, a two minute walk. Hop on a baht bus (runs every minute or two) and pay B10, and get off on Soi 6. Returning from Soi 6, walk to Beach Rd and a baht bus will drop you off at Soi 10. It's a 1 or 2 minute walk to the beach from the hotel and maybe 10 minutes walk to Treetown. 7-11's, ATMs, cheap laundry are nearby. The Stay is an excellent choice although US $63 is not cheap. I got it for US $40 in low season.
The others' advice about getting a Thai Sim Card is very good advice. It's nice to have a local number to call girls, Bolt, airlines, etc. Just make sure your phone is unlocked. You'll need your phone to be unlocked to use a Thai Sim Card.

Can I walk to so six from there?[/QUOTE]Came back a few weeks ago from my last trip and I spent a few weeks at page 10 hotel which is next doors basically from where you will be staying, can't say anything about your hotel but from what I saw from outside but it looks good, good WIFI / internet as I could see the connection from my hotel / room and front looks good although hardly new / fresh. Location is great, go towards beach road if you want to go south (walking street) or the other way if you want to go towards soi 6/ other areas and gents clubs. I would not recommend walking to soi 6 as its bit of distance.
I never woke up in time for hotel breakfast at vacations so I always skipped that but took a few minutes walk to Hemingway's restaurant which is an absolute gem if you want to relax in a good western place for that "feeling of home", great western food, tv everywhere for sport events and its very popular among non-Thai There are a few 7/11 close as well as a couple of massage shops so starting the day and getting whatever you need, a foot massage and meal there and you are ready for a day of fun.
