You are correct when you say the DR is the exact opposite. IMHO the MILFS are the way to go in TJ. Every now and then you can find a younger one that can do more for you but in my experiences even those are limited.

TJ is very close to the USA. If they don't get your dollars someone else will come along. Mexican citizens living in TJ have some money and aren't as poor as mexicans in the southern region. Goods services and people flow back and forth through the border. A pair of nikes or ipod aren't the spectacle they might be somewhere else.

GFE. I haven't stayed there long enough to figure that one out. Local girls don't seem too interested in gringos though. If you lived there or were sponsoring someone while live in san diego or close by it would make more sense. Otherwise it isn't a DR set up at all.

Where does the bus drop you off in TJ? Close enough to walk over to Adelitas?

Or is it better to get drop off at San Ysidro, and take a taxi?

ABC bus line to Rosarito toll road junction ($6) and downtown Encenida ($10) one way. ABC is located next to the white & red cab just a head of Yellow cab near the McDonald. Turn to the right as exiting at the border crossing toward TJ and head towards the McDonald's Arch. or the Revoution Arch. Look for the red & white cab stall and ABC bus line.

Red and white bus is a Mexicana service and not Greyhound to Rosaito Hotel.
What is the current charge for this service ?

Usually I only walk down to TJ before 12pm if I am going to dentist or late afternoon. TJ gets very hot in the spring and summer and there is little if any breeze. I try and avoid evenings or walk with other groups of people.

I just asked this on the thailand thread, but am planning on going to TJ in a couple of months so want to ask about Tijuana as well.

How bad is the smoke in the bars there? Hong Kong, AD, CC, etc. Also, do hotels like the Ticuan have decent non-smoking rooms and are they really non-smoking or do they have some smoke residue?

I ask because I am pretty allergic to smoke. Can probably manage a couple of hours in a club but could not stay overnight in a smoking room.

Bring your Zyrtec. Despite HK's best efforts, during weekend evenings, it's a smoky, hot, sausagefest. I'm not saying the other bars are better (although I like a less densely populated environment for mongering) but afternoons have been my favourite times there. I have less residue of any type on my clothes if I keep it to afternoons....:)

I'am not a smoker and have stayed at the Ticuan. I asked for a non - smoking room, and that is what I got. I couldn't smell any kind of smoke. I did book the executive room or whatever they call it, so as not to hear any street traffic. The rooms are very nice.

Yes, evenings are much worse than days. It's not as bad as years past, maybe because fewer guys smoke, but you will come out smelling like an ash tray. It's just a matter of degree.

Although not allergic, I'm pretty sensitive to cigarette smoke but I can manage the bars in TJ. The smoke isn't too bad in the big clubs. Hong Kong can be the worst because it packed to the gills with people and the air is just stifling. I really wished the pinche management would turn on the AC which would help air circulation. The other bars tend to be less crowded so it isn't so bad to find a place away from smokers. My favorite place to chill is over at Chicago Club where there's always room for you to find away from a smoker.

Note that a lot of chicas smoke but are polite and ask you if they can light up in front of you.

I'll usually restock my supply of Maxifort at the farmacia next door to Milenio just across the street from the turnstiles, but it closes early and so Milenio is my fallback. But it closes at 10pm. The other night I showed up at 950pm and they were already closed. I asked a taxi to take me to a pharmacy on the way to Adelita and the first random little farmacia he stopped at wanted to sell me one pill for $10! Considering the place next to Mlilenio sells bottles of 10 for $40, or Milenio has a 4 tablet bottle for $20 I was a little surprised. The taxista took me to a place on the next block that sold the 4 pack for $30 which I ended up taking since I didn't want to spend all night and more taxi fare looking for a better deal.

Are there better late night pharmacies on the way to Zona Norte I can go to if I get to TJ too late for the places right at the border? I'm interested in either the Maxifort generic or Viagra® at a good price that I don't have to drive around all night to get to. And no, I don't want to buy my medication from the bathroom attendant in the bar.

As an added benefit after using these people, you will be treated to some Indian cocksucker calling you, using a hijacked caller ID, and telling you they want to deliver ED meds to your door, just approve it, etc. etc. Forget about telling them not to call. They will call right back, and they call anywhere from 2 to 5 times a day, 3 or 4 days a week. As their ID is consistent, I block it. But they change IDs from time to time.

I tried them once, because their prices were reasonable, they give you several freebies when you order, the stuff shows up on time. What's not to like? A couple of months later, these bullshit calls started. Coincidence? I don't think so.

this joint apparently opened their doors in may of this year. it's located on the sw corner of the alley and constitucion, across the street from the cop shop and the cambio. (note: the cambio tends to offer great rates during the day, 12.5:1 on saturday at around 7:00pm. but later at night, the rate drops. 12.1:1 at around 11:30pm.)

it's a small place, about the size of the old las chavelas, but there is a second floor balcony. the ground floor has a bar on the left as you enter, and a shitload of level changes. beware if you're drunk, or clumsy, or are trying to walk and ogle the girls simultaneously. :) there is a fair-sized dance floor to the right as you enter, below ground level, surrounded by booths and a couple of the horseshoe-shaped things the girls at hk stand in to dance. there is one pole in the middle of the floor. the top balcony surrounds the dance floor. the privados are up here (there may be a couple tucked away on the ground floor, too, but i did not see them). they are basically an alcove with a bench, a small table for the cubeta and a curtain covering the entrance. i note that the waiters will open the curtain and peer inside, without warning, from time to time. :(

the music is basically what you'll hear at tropical, but at a slightly less ear-splitting volume. same type of dj, talking too loudly, and too closely, into a shitty microphone. at 7:30pm there was one chica dancing, but not stripping. then they pretty much seem to clear the floor and the patrons are free to dance with the chicas. i understand later they start to strip, but i was not there past about 10:00. hk this ain't. not that that's a bad thing. i think the same gang owns both, and they are smart enough not to cannibalize their hk business. there appears to be a market for both.

the beers are priced fairly, at 18p per. i like that better than 2 x 1 at 35p (or whatever), as i always feel obligated to drink the 2nd beer, whether i want it or not. the fichas are $7, or about 84p, each. i understand quite often the pony beers are water.

a privado will set you back $40, or 6 ficha beers. for that you get the privilege of going behind the curtain with your chosen, for as long as it takes her to guzzle them. what goes on is up to the two parties, as long as you don't mind a mesero audience from time to time. :(

i do not know the going rate for an arriba here. i assume they ask for the moon, but take far less. the hotel is the najera. i think they bumped their prices a bit, as a room for 1/2 hour is 70p. but that was the "honeymoon suite" overlooking the callejon, and had a shower. i don't remember if the other rooms have a shower. the first knock came right at 30 minutes, the second, a bit more insistent, at about 40. i exited at roughly 45, to a very sullen and pissed-off looking chambermaid. i just looked at her and walked past. it's not like they had a line of customers waiting. she went in and wordlessley picked up the 10p coin i left for her.

the girls range all over the joint, from chubby to thin, short, tall and in-between. young and not-so-young. i don't think you'll find any 10s here, but there were several 7s, a couple of 8s. also a couple of 2s, but to each his own. i think if your preference runs more to the mexican taste, you'll be happy.

the place is pretty smoky. the seating upstairs is ok, with a good view of the club, but smoke tends to rise. :( however, the a/c system appeard to work pretty well, and it was never hot or stuffy.

i will say that the meseros are every bit as annoying as the ones in hk. the fuckwits in management will never learn. i understand that you have to have ficha drinks to spend time with the ladies. being pestered every 5 minutes when her glass is starting to look a bit low is very offputting, and i have been known to say fuck it and walk. i also hate somebody coming along a 3 minute intervals, picking up my beer and shaking it. there's plenty of pussy in zn, you don't have to put up with too much bullshit. ms. s smuggled in a bottle of coke, and would refill her glass from time to time, whenever the ficha nazis weren't looking! :d

all in all it really reminds me of tropical, at a reduced volume. which is not a bad thing. reasonably priced cervezas, arribas probably in the 500p neighborhood, and a 70p hotel. maybe i can overlook the freaking meseros and their antics. it's probably worth a repeat.
