Just had my first visit to seoul this past couple days. We stayed in a motel in the nice Gangnam area. Five post since you joined in 2004 all asking for help and telling us how you want to avoid being caught by the military. Let’s hope your next post is an actual field report minus questions. You should talk to your fellow military brothers, they can tell you where to go but as far as RLDs, Miari would probably be the safest because of its proximity to the military base. Just about all these places are off limits to the military since patronizing a prostitute is now a crime so take your pick but I have never seen a military patrol in any RLD in all my years here. You should be more aware of the KNP who can stop you and turn you over to the military and they do have a presence in the RLDs.

1. I usually post on USAsexguid forum. I just moved to korea a couple months ago, so I wouldn't have a reason to post on here.

3. I've never been caught, nor do I want to, I'm just asking questions trying to be safe and keep things going.

All the RLD's I've seen in Korea have been sort of ghetto-ish. Perhaps the more experienced guys on the forum have seen a nice one, but I haven't yet.

Since you are relatively unfamiliar with Seoul, you actually might want to stick to someplace like Itaewon (different from the Yongsan RLD, which is located by Yongsan Station). Several reasons for this:

1. Local cops: As far as getting busted goes, the biggest threat is from the local cops doing one of their periodic "crackdowns, " which happens every couple of years when some politician gets a bug up his ass, someone misses a bribe payment, or someone highlights the existence of Korean RLD's in the media. In the Itaewon RLD, nearly all the shops have CCTV cameras so the girls can watch for potential clients, but they also use them to watch for the cops (I think there's a previous post about this). If the mamasans see the cops coming, they can just lock the door or shuttle a client into a private back room until the coast is clear. BTW, I don't ever remember seeing any of the CCTV's hooked up to VCRs, but to be honest I haven't always thought to look.

By the way, most of the RLD's I've seen in Korea are located right next to a police substation that you almost have to walk by (usually with a sign in Hangul saying you have to be a certain age to walk down that particular alley). It's Korea's way of keeping the glass house businesses regulated by confining them to certain areas out of the public eye. In Itaewon's case, the police station is located a block or more away, if that makes you feel any better.

2. "Courtesy patrols": CP's are not military police.- they're just soldiers from the nearby Yongsan base. They have no arrest authority, and unless they recognize you they can't even know or prove you're in the military. If you bump into them, just tell them to take a hike.

If you're worried about someone you know spotting you starting your walk up the hill, there are also a couple of back alleys entrances (by the mosque, and the stairs by Sortino's) you can use to keep from approaching from the main drag.

3. Ease: The girls in Itaewon are probably used to dealing with foreigners more than any other RLD, so if you're new to Korea and aren't functional in Korean, Itaewon may be your best bet for being easiest to getting to/from, and negotiating or chatting with the girls. It could suck being way out at Yangjugol or Cheonho and getting scammed or running into some other potential problem, like finding out that none of the girls want to take a foreigner.

THE DOWN SIDE: Itaewon RLD probably has the least attractive girls out of all the RLDs, but over the years I have bumped into a couple of stunners there. They never seem to stick around for long, though.

Overall, Itaewon isn't bad. For foreigners who are relatively new to Korea, I'd say it's the safest and the easiest, just not many hotties. Also, plenty of decent restaurants and bars (both regular ones and the "juicy" type) to prowl around after you finish the deed. Probably more fun than Fayettenam!

I'm not really one for message boards except these Mongering ones, because that's the info I need. I took a stroll thru the 588 red light district close to Cheongnyangni station today since I had other business in the area. Business as usual, with maybe half of the windows open.
