Anyone can rent one, but driving one legally requires an international motorbike license (not to be confused with an international drivers license which is for a car) and police know most tourist farangs dont have one so one could be paying tickets if they rent one without it. Many motorbike taxis dont bother giving out helmets and the one you get from a rental could be just as grimey.

You also risk buring yourself on the exhaust pipe. Handle bars on the back of a bike? I have been riding motorcycles damn near since I could walk and I do not understand any of this.

You do it one time and they are going to keep asking on top of not wanting to pay you back to begin with. I threw away 300 baht to learn something that I already knew. Good thing I am not fool enough to do it with thousands or even hundreds of thousands like many guys have done. During Covid owners took heavy losses those who came into the game late with Nightwish group took the heaviest losses many who had investment, full or part ownership gone. Once open their plan wss to make it back and quick thus the plan todat to monopolize the industry with contracts where ladies have to sell drinks to equal their salaries. Goal of everyone adopts to the game what choice for customer it becomes standard pay it or go somewhere else. That is why Asian now go to Soi 6, owners know so they adopt the same plan.

You are correct, not called handle bars. Could not think of what to call it Should have said hold on to the metal ring around the seat at the back of the motorcycle.

Well duh, every cute Thai girl looks like 1000 other girls in Pattaya that you could pick up for THB 1000. Anyone could post 100 Thai women and we could say the exact same thing about the picture. Have you seen the thai women working at Central Festival and Terminal 21? Plenty look better than some bar girls! But you dont monger at the mall unless you want to be slapped, you monger at a known red light district area.

Again, the point was to demonstrate the role and purpose of a go-go for a tourist with limited time, not to claim go-gos are exclusive to the best of the best. Go-gos would not exist if everyone just wanted to fuck the cute thai girl from 7/11 or the receptionist who checked you into your hotel.

I only said she works at 7 11. You can meet people anywhere. You go to places like AAA in States you present your license they provide a small book with a number of languages and stamp in a specfic area what one is allow to drive car, motorbike etc. If your home licence doesn't allow for motorbike it won't be stamped. Regardless this booklet is call Internation Permit!

Remember, majority of Thai police can't read English they are taught what generally the book looks like and area thaat need to be stamped to drive a car or motorbike. Today in Pattaya it is rare to see checkpoints if any Soi 9 near police station.

Correct although police heads keep telling don't rent to unlicence they continue it just hot air. Regardless one better know what they are doing especially know what the bad habits of driving here by Thais.

There hss been numerous stories of foreigner having accidents that carry travel insurance not covering for number of reason better read the fine print.

In the end it comes down to driver attitute cause there is no special training for Bolt, Grab etc. They come all from the same school which is no school at all in my view.

[/QUOTE]Agreed, and most tourists don't know the difference as most motorbike rental companies don't bother enforcing it. Tourists typically get an international driving permit and think they are legally driving a motorbike in Thailand, but they're not because they only got the permit / stamp for vehicles, not for motorbikes. I made the exact same mistake but luckily never got stopped. So now I don't rent any motorbike unless I had all proper documentation.
