Quite right! There is no R technically and in Thai an R sound never appears after a vowel (only before it). I should spell it Bpaak or Bpahk or Paak or Pahk (there is no correct way to spell Thai words in English and some are such rubbish). Long Ah sound with very open mouth, so AR is closest approximation in English but a silent R (as you point out). Think of Jimmy Haas the tennis player, works.
