Due to some added financial responsibilitys I just picked up I decidided to try and budget monger this trip. The lodging part was no different as I am paying $150 a week at My Place.
To start off I took the airport bus to Centro for 6, 500 peso. Then I really took it all the way and took the Metro to the Mayorista stop for 155 peso.
I most of the time eat in resturants but so far it has been fruit and supermarket food.
I went to Divinas club in Prado where I usally buy all the girls a beer and even the boss one. This time I just bought the Chica I picked one beer and instead of the 10k tip I normally leave I gave her 5K. So instead of the 100k+ I always spend I got away with 45K. On a sad note my favorite girl is no longer working there.
So far except for carrying my two pieces of baggage all that way it has not been a hardship. I think the key for me is staying on my toes when I most of the time say fuck it I am on vacation.
Getting back to the tipping issue for a BBBJ I used to give 10 to 20 K tip. I give less now and still get a warm smile from the lesser tip.
Got 21 days left and if I don't get to drunk I will keep to the plan. Of course if I find my fun level has gone down a lot then I will losen the purse strings and say fuck it I am on Vacation.
Here are my thoughts:
- Women are beautiful, yes, but extremely superficial. It would take a lot of weeding to find a real diamond in the rough. I. E. A real down to earth girl that really likes you for you. I was dating a girl (2 months) that I thought was that way until I discovered she had at least two other boyfriends on the side. Seems infidelity is commonplace in Colombia. My Colombian friend just laughed and said that the women are just as bad as the men!
- Food is good, not great like Peru, but very good. Albeit you really ought to be a carnivore to enjoy it! Lot's of beef, pork, etc. I would HIGHLY recommend El Corral for a good burger though!
- Booze is cheap. Learn to like Aguardiente, Rum and you will be fine.
- Taxis. What can I say? Are all taxi drivers scumbags? I don't know how many times I got in a taxi and the gringo light must have come on. Next thing I know I'm getting taken the Loooong way around. Do your homework and tell the taxi driver the best route. Also, make sure you KNOW the address and even EXACTLY where the place is you are going. I had a couple of experiences where the taxi driver couldn't even radio in to get help/directions! How fucked up is that? Finally, watch the meter. I had a couple of taxi meters that ran fast. Only after I complained the guy said, oh yeah, it's broken I'll charge you less.
- Bring ID everywhere. Amazing how strict they are letting even an old guy (30+) into the clubs
- Strip clubs are overrated and expensive. Yes, you might find an 18 year old hardbody, but it will cost you hundreds! Yes, DOLLARS. There are exceptions and negotiation, but probably better options like going to a disco, website or even a hotel concierge/taxi driver.
- Accommodations, shop around. I found a great 4+ star hotel for $56 a night, including breakfast and even an evening snack (sandwhich, drinks, etc.), internet, etc.
- Pantyliners. Sorry, I thought this was interesting so I had to put it in. There were a couple of times I met girls and after some time, cuddling, started working my hand downstairs. Only to find a PANTYLINER! Shit, on the rag. Nope. Apparently in Colombia it's common for girls to wear pantyliners even when not on their period. Very hygienic I guess.
- Medellin shuts down early Sun-Wed. Even Parque Lleras is somewhat dead on those nights. Check out other clubs and venues.
- Use the metro. Dirt cheap and good. Especially if you need to go North-South for great distances.

What hotel did you use?
Just past Rio Claro is a pueblo called Doradal, home of Pablo Escobars famouis farm Hacienda Napoles.

There are definitely some trully nice and good-hearted ones, just keep your guard up.
As far as the strip clubs go for me, well I agree mostly.
Face Dos, though they have some hot chicas, has always been too pushy and plastic for me.
San Diego, which used to be a great club IMO, before the re-modeling and subsequent change in general attitude several years ago, can still be fun. I like it better than Face Dos, though it's still mostly a clip joint now.
The best strip clubs IMO are those in el Centro, and not only Club Maracaibo, Ejecutivo and las Americas.
The little hidden ones too.
Of course there are some lower quality chicas there but you can find some nice ones too.
Many times I've made the rounds out there to these little clubs, maybe just a quick walk thru to see what's there. Sometimes I'm out in a minute or 2 and many times I find a cutie to stay and hang with.
To me it's worth the time. I can weed out quickly on my walk thru 150 gorditas and spot a diamond just waiting for me.
I sit down, buy her a beer, dazzle her (or at least try) with spanish, wit and charm, and she'll practically leave with me for free :)
For me that's half the fun. The hunt and subsequent chase to get them to like ya just a bit, so it doesn't just feel like a business transaction.

I'll be with you soon, after May 20th. We have a lot of guys comming, eight to be exact. I've had to put them in nearby hotels. We'll be staying there for 3-4 days with them. The hotels are nice, new, with private baths and we'll be able to party, use the safes and Wifi internet at My Place. I've had to use the hotel as an extension of My Place as so many guys want to stay at My Place in La Mayorista. So get ready to party with the guys. You've always been great as a wingman for my guests. I really appreciate that, but you know it's fun.
I'm contacting more girls than normal for parties, and maybe going out to Rio Claro in Doradal (5 minutes from Escobar's old Estate) and El Salado Eco park with the girls. I'm going to try to take all the guys on the TuriBus tour that leaves from Parque Poblado, It's a 3 hour tour (like Gilligan's Island), and will be a great way to get them familiarized with the city, Medellin Paradise. It's only about $12,000cop ($6US), worth every penny.

Rio Claro is beautiful, beyond description. The cleanest and most exciting river I've ever been to. I was there twice with my ex-girlfriend, the one I was engaged to. Our cabin was built into the woods with an outside tub built into the rocks, but private. Going down the river in a "tube" was both exciting and scary, not for the faint of heart. The curent is very strong, you better no how to swim because at some point you are most likely to fall of the "tube". The cave is equally exciting. About a 30-45 minute walk through the cave with lots of small deep ponds in between. Beautiful, but you better know how to swim or have somebody like me help you cross the small ponds.
I remember we had a few anoying and roudy young guys on the walk to the cave, really "macho" guys. But they had a little problem, they couldn't swim. So I had to pull 2 of them out after they were bobbing and weaving in and out of the water in the cave. I had to start helping them cross every pond in the cave. They all started calling me the "hero" when we came out of the cave. Luckily I was a lifeguard when I was a teenager (16-19) both public and private pools and in College. But Rio Claro was so much fun.
Back then it was $50, 000cop ($25US) a night plus the 3 meals, and you could party and buy beers. It's got to be more now, but it's worth any price. Rio Claro is located in Doradal, 5-10 minutes from Pablo Escobar's old "finca" or Estate. Three hours drive from Medellin. Can't wait to go back, although I'm not getting any younger, I keep forgetting that. Oh hell, I just have to be a little more carefull and less roudy. I'll let you young guns watch my back. Nothing like my Medellin Paradise!

Basically I only spent about 4 hours there. Hiking around up the main trail. I tried swimming in the river but the current was too scary for me, so I didnt go very far out in the water. Saw some people rapheling across the river and talked to them.
Later on, had lunch at the lodge. Met the coordinator and his wife (she spoke a little English), nice people.
So I came out to the main road (the Medellin to Bogota route) and hitched a bus into Doradel. Then I took a cab over to Pablo Escobar's former house (Hacienda Napoles. After Pablo died the state turned it into a wild game park. Pablo had a large collection of exotic animals. Hippos, lions, monkeys pumas, giraffes, elephants etc. Plus wild birds and a butterfly farm too.
Quite a collection of animals, they were remodeling his old house, turning it into a museum. Its an interesting place to see. Kind of a break from mongering, I'm hoping to go back on my next trip.
Spot n BB, I usually after HN drive to Puerto Berrio to spend the night, take the fast boat on the Rio Magnelena ect and party in those low end bars in the port area, great time, always meet new people.

Rio Claro is not exactly a swimming river. It has ropes going across in some areas for people to wade in. You can also find your own spots by slowly crawling through rocks and holding on, almost as if you were rock climbing. I was afraid to let go of the rope at first because the curent was so strong, but I trusted my strong swimming backround and finally let go off the rope. It wasn´t that bad, the curent just took me a little bit then I was able to work myself back to the side of the river. It pretty much always did the same thing. So I taught my girlfriend how to do it and she finally let go the rope also. It was lots of fun and very exciting.
There are also 15´feet ponds that you can dive in to. Very clear water and the curent is not that strong there. You can see the large fish swimming around, just beautiful. Hioctane, I saw a lot of life jackets, but then they were gone. So I guess you have to rent them, no guarantee they´ll be available all the time. It´ll be one heck of an experience !

I just booked my first trip to Colombia for the middle of July and have been reading the forums thoroughly. I'll be staying in CTG for 4 days and then at Casa Blanca in MDE for a few days. Almost all the information I've seen is about people looking for the all natural girls. What are the best places to find the car audio style girls with big silicon tits, but still providing good service? Do these type frequent the mansion? Almost forgot, I had posted a month or so ago about the real danger in Colombia is getting run over in the street. Well this morning I looked both ways and the coast looked clear. Then a motercycle came roaring around the corner. It was a delivery type and as I jumped out of the way the box on the back of the bike hit my arm. No real damage, but now it is look both ways as you cross the street and then keep fucken looking.
