Much better than any American instant coffee like Tasters Choice, Folgers or Sanka. Closest taste is the Starbucks instant. You are right most instant brands are really shitty. Being used to good quality non instant, I can't really stand Red Cup any more, and cannot tolerate the Thai 3 in one mixes, since I don't take sugar and non dairy whitener is just a chemical to me. Would rather drink water or milk.

I agree that Nescafe is not the worst Instant brand going around, but depends what you get used to. My parents used International Roast and I did not like it. Maxwell House was appalling when I tried it at a young age, as was Bushells (just dish water). I recall Pablo as a super cheap bulk Instant coffee in my youth. Red Cup contains a lot of Robusta so is a relative cheapy. My mother uses cheap ground coffee as well (can't recall the Brand right now) and I don't like it. All my relatives seem to brew coffee far too weak for me anyway.

The best quality Instant coffees are so expensive now that there is little point to it. I think of Nescafe Alta Rica (100% Arabica freeze dried). Miles nicer than Red Cup, relatively (and the price is accordingly a lot higher). In Europe can pick up a good quality ground coffee for a very good price, so I stock up. Even when on the road, I still want a good coffee.

How? I carry a very small electric jug in my suitcase, also a plastic filter paper holder, filter papers, a slim thermos to capture the coffee, and an easily sealable plastic container that holds up to 500 gm of ground coffee. So I can make fairly good drip filter coffee, where quality mostly depends on the quality of the coffee grounds. Maybe a bit weird but suits to coffee addicts. A good cup of coffee is so cheap in Italy, that don't need to make your own, but useful for remote locations. While in Italy can stock up on the Lavazza or which ever brand looks good value at the time. Even Illy is cheap in Italy (not my favourite) where costs a fortune in Tops supermarket here. I don't have a coffee grinder in suitcase LOL so have to but ground coffee.

American brands are really puzzling to non USA People. Like Uncle Ben's Kentucky special blend (I probably remembered the name wrong), etc. We have no clue if will be any good or terrible. I once heard that Chatuchak (Jatujak) market had a coffee shop with good quality good price. I never found the shop. Can anyone confirm? Hard to get good prices in Thailand.

You have probably tried this, but I found Doi Chang's quality to be pretty good and brought some back to the USA last year. You can get full bean bags from their shop in Ekkamai.

Also another good option, at least last year, was the tourism festival in lumphini in January. Red Cup contains a lot of Robusta so is a relative cheapy. My mother uses cheap ground coffee as well (can't recall the Brand right now) and I don't like it. All my relatives seem to brew coffee far too weak for me anyway.

The best quality Instant coffees are so expensive now that there is little point to it. I think of Nescafe Alta Rica (100% Arabica freeze dried). Miles nicer than Red Cup, relatively (and the price is accordingly a lot higher). In Europe can pick up a good quality ground coffee for a very good price, so I stock up. Even when on the road, I still want a good coffee.

How? I carry a very small electric jug in my suitcase, also a plastic filter paper holder, filter papers, a slim thermos to capture the coffee, and an easily sealable plastic container that holds up to 500 gm of ground coffee. So I can make fairly good drip filter coffee, where quality mostly depends on the quality of the coffee grounds. Maybe a bit weird but suits to coffee addicts. A good cup of coffee is so cheap in Italy, that don't need to make your own, but useful for remote locations. While in Italy can stock up on the Lavazza or which ever brand looks good value at the time. Even Illy is cheap in Italy (not my favourite) where costs a fortune in Tops supermarket here. I don't have a coffee grinder in suitcase LOL so have to but ground coffee.

American brands are really puzzling to non USA People. Like Uncle Ben's Kentucky special blend (I probably remembered the name wrong), etc. We have no clue if will be any good or terrible. Judging from buying terrible bread in USA supermarkets (not realising that they make most of them sweet), strange coffee brands could be a risk. You have to know what you are doing to shop in USA. LOL.

I tried several Thai 100% Arabica coffees from the mountains of the north. Did not really find anything quite competes with a good Italian coffee brand. Tesco seemed to have some reasonable priced ground coffees from South America that were good. If they had a special like half price, I would stock up on say Guatemalan No. 4. I think normal price was 189 Baht which is at least double European price, maybe 3 times. Some very cheap acceptable brands of 100% Arabica in Europe were Caf Hag, Caf Maccinato, Dallmayr, Tschibo, etc.

Makro in Thailand has very few brands of 100% Arabica coffee, other than in beans (non ground). It maybe that Thais just won't spend the price of 100% Arabica, and the Thai quality is not that special anyway. Bon Caf is a common brand in Thai Supermarkets (Farang oriented), but very few varieties are 100% Arabica.

I once heard that Chatuchak (Jatujak) market had a coffee shop with good quality good price. I never found the shop. Can anyone confirm? It is 300 baht for 500 grams and is dark roasted with a light sheen from the oil. I have found the quality and consistency of the roast to be very consistent and have been buying it there for over 6 years. They have a small coffee shop on the premises that uses the Royal Project coffee so you can get a taste before you buy.
