LA Cafe is (3 weeks ago) still going strong with freelancers. Difficult to get a seat a times, even around noon. Without trying to be 'precious', the smoke is pretty bad. Stings the eyes, but worth putting up with for a while. G-Point just down the road is a bit quieter and also a freelancer hangout. Great food, with an excellent all you can eat lunch for about PHP190.
I met a guy in there that had just returned from a week in Palawan. Not renowned for its safety, he said he had no probs whatsoever, great beaches and no probs with finding P4P.
IMHO AC is worth the effort for a few nights if only for the sheer concentration of clubs and girls. Baloy Beach (close to Olongapo and Barrio Baretto) is also worth a few days as a more laid back side trip.
Hotels, flights, etc - plenty of info on this site. Personally, I'd book the island trips when you're there.

The first date is definitely peak travel or close to it. The further into the new year you stay, the better price you might get on the return. No cheap flights around the holidays, in any case. If cheap flights are your priority, best wait until after January 10 or so before you go.

I will arrive in manila at November 12, trying to have a bit more then two relaxed vacation weeks. Till now I haven't bokked any hotels and I do not have exact plans where to go next. Think it depends to weather at the islands. And people I am going to meet.
I am searching a mixture between relaxed sunshine vacation and some nice contacts. Right now I work to get some numbers from the web, so lets see if this will be successfull.

I’m planning my first trip to the Philippines and Thailand coming from Los Angeles probably towards the end of November until the money runs out. I should have at least $7k US and will be wanting to make it stretch. I think at a minimum I would like to go to Angeles City, Pattaya and Phuket.
Right now I’m looking for advice on travel arrangements and visas. I would like to have as much flexibility in my arrangements as possible; i.e. be able to stay in one place for a while if I like it or move on to the next. I know this would probably be the most expensive way to handle things in terms of air fare and the cheapest would be to lock in an itinerary and stick with it. I’m wondering what my alternatives are. Should I pick a place to go first, such as AC with a cheap return ticket and then book a flight to Thailand from there, or are there “Round the world” options or what? From what I can gather now, visas aren’t required for Thailand or Philippines as long as you have ongoing travel tickets. Is that right? What if you don’t have an ongoing flight?

If you have a US passport you don't need a visa but make sure your passport is good for 6 month when you enter Philippines with 7k USD it should last you 2 month at angeles and Thailand if your airline ticket is already paid for, you can stay in angeles and Pattaya at a budget of $50 usd a day included food, girl and hotel Bangkok and manila will cost you alot more, you can get a round trip ticket from LA to Thailand for about 950 usd in nov and Bangkok to manila round trip is about 260 usd.

You should ask your travel agent about your flight plans and costs. But I know that it is not too much more expensive to just pick destinations with out the return flight. Such as, fly to PI, then Thailand, then etc... then return home. Kind of like world hoping. I do not know if changing your flight schedule is going to cost more for penalties, But I know that return flights from China can be changed without penalties with Japan Airlines and China Ailrlines, ... might depend on the airlines and destinations. Again, ask your travel agent. Other than flight prices, hotels no need advance reservations, unless there is a major event or holiday in that area.

When it comes to air travel, your best destination is BKK. Go there and vist a travel agent and ask her the same questions.
Better yet, just stay in Thailand. Once you're there, I guarantee you won't want to leave.

I am in Cebu again, for a few months- I have been spending winters here for the last 5 or 6 years. I will visit a few of the neighboring islands, & make some out of country trips- Maybe Singapore, Bali, Angkor Wat- not sure where yet. I hope to get my boat in the water before the end of this month- I've had it 2 years & only been out 3 or 4 times- each time with breakdowns involving lot's of oily smoke & steam, so we put it up on blocks & are giving it an engine transplant & general overhaul. As they say, "A boat is a hole in the water that you throw money in...".
Reasonably sane ISG'ers welcome to PM me for possible get togethers- I am in my late 60's, unattractive, socially inept, missing teeth etc- your normal Cebu-based expat- but I can still hobble out to have a good time occasionally if I can sneak out from under the watchful gaze of my lovely filipina live-in- She says she loves me- I love her beautiful ass.
