Travel: The best deal from the Eastern U.S. to London are currently on either British Airways or Virgin Atlantic. (My trip from NYC was $280.00 RT)

I landed at Heathrow and to the tube (London's Transit System aka "Underground") to the city. I would advise to take this route in lieu of a private car or British Rail. The tube is by far the best public transportation system that I have seen in the world. I arrived at the hotel, changed clothes and then met with a friend of mine to hit some bars / pubs / clubs. Whilst I haven't used any of the parlours mentioned by FH, I do know that they all have decent reputations. In London this actually counts for quite a lot - a lot of the parlours just don't seem to care and work on the basis they can afford to treat punters - and too often the ladies working there - like cattle. The number of parlours and flats around the suburbs suggests there is enough business around to get away with it though. I've listed details of the journey below, but whether it offers better value for the traveller is a bit moot. You'll spend an hour getting there, if you want an extended service of 45 mins/ hour and a couple of extras you'll often end up paying £100/120+ anyway and then you have an hours journey back. Add £10 in travel and you'll often end up paying a similar amount than if you stayed central. There are some excellent independents in town at £150, and some really nice ladies at Scandals (Simone is an absolute gem) or Agency Caprice at the same price. I know this is still expensive relative to EE, Argentina or even other W. European cities, but I'm afraid this is the nature of the beast. London is expensive for everything I'm afraid.

For anyone interested (and regardless of what I said I wouldn't put anyone off these places), here are some details of the journeys. All of these places are an hour+ away from Kensington High St (every journey in London starts at an hour). They are also all off the tube system and you need to change from the underground to a mainline train.

You then follow the signs at Liverpool st for the main line station.
