The boarding house attached to the bar is a little social microcosm of which the new girls becomes a part. GE[/QUOTE]Yes GE, signal strength is the ultimate arbiter of Telco choice. Even in the heart of Manila there are areas where one company may have a lousy signal compared to another. Overall I have had better service from Globe but you take what you can get.

I use DSL via land line mostly & it is very good value compared to, say, Australia. I supplement this with free WiFi when out & about, falling back to 3G only as a last resort.

Since the vast majority of lurkers here are vacationers, DSL is a luxury they will rarely have access to.

Im pretty careful with mine and in the past always had them still alive well after the end of their contracts, but since living here in the Phils I have found handsets going US after only about 12 months or so. maybe its the heat? maybe newer handsets are made to a lower standard now?

My experience is similar to yours. I never keep them more than a year. It could be the heat, or it could be that they just get tired of being here. Having just gotten a new Blackberry, I'm hoping that it will last the course, but I doubt it, and my Samsung, now about a year old, is showing signs of early death throes as well.

I find that is often the battery that goes tits up first with CP’s in The Philippines. This is a problem that is usually easily remedied.

When you tire of your CP, why not give it to your favourite GF of the moment. I do and I can assure you that she will be very grateful and will show it in the best way that she knows how;). Even if she does not need it, she will have a zillion relatives back in her village/barangay who do and so she will gain great merit/face by gifting it to them.

I like to pick a lady in the evening and then get her to stay till her next shift.

The reasoning is that I won't get lonely or bored. There's someone to show me around and I just like the general bullshit associated with a much younger lady!
During the time I'm with her we will of course eat, get to do whatever is on (this is what I will need discover. Bowling?) and perhaps if she's really good, get me to buy something for her.

Are the AC ladies as gold crazy as their Thai sisters? Not that I buy too much gold, but I don't mind helping her look!

So I figured as follows for a daily budget:

Hotel - 4000 pesos. I like little confort!
Lady - 2000 including tip
Food - 2000
Other - 1000

How will I fare on this? Any major mistake?

I am pretty good with street food and usually like the local stuff - the spicier the better. Must read up a little about Philippine cuisine, although I read in the forum that the food in AC sucks!

AV[/QUOTE]All electronics susceptible to high humidity. Taking a phone that has been cooled in aircon room and then you go outside into hot humid air. I used to see warnings about that in some owners manual. Try to keep phone warm by setting near tv or between your gf legs. Not in pussy.

Don't buy anything for the Thai girls. They will take you "sopping" at Lotus and then take the stuff right back to buy their boyfriend a watch.
The Thai women are spoiled rotten. I don't buy them squat. After the pooyings make their hard time pitch for money I remind them that they make more money than a college professor or the head nurse at big hospital. Pinay girls usually just want money for their impoverished families. They love silver. I have never seen one wearing gold except the fair untouchables that won't even talk to you. The pinays come from far worse circumstances than the spoiled Thai girls. Their country has been ravaged by Spaniards, Americans, Japanese, and now the Chinese merchant class. Manila was the jewel of the orient until the Japs came in then the US Naval Guns flattened it during ww2. The Thais declared war on the US in ww2 and their DC diplomat carried the declaration in his pocket, never delivering it. When we dropped the Abomb on Japan the Thais declared war on Japan and siezed their assets. The Pinoy national hero is Lapu Lapu. This dude had the balls to kill the great Magellan. While the world was bowing down to smelly spaniards and the Pope, Lapu and his boys shot the heavily armoured spaniards in the legs with poison arrows and then chopped them to Pieces. That should give you some idea of who you want as a friend. The Pinoy population was 17m in the 40's and now it is 90m. In the 60's 75% of their population was above the poverty line and not it has flip flopped to 25%. Those places on Fields ave are all owned by greedy Aussies and Europeans, not Pinoys. Pinoy food is GREAT. Eat at the malls. Grab a rotisserie chicken and rice. and bring it back to eat after your boink your honey. Pandesal bread is delicious. Goto soup is a tasty rice porridge with tripe. They have great grilled seafood that you dip in vinegar. AC gets boring and looks like a warzone in between the 2 malls. Take the bus to Bario Baretto, and Subic. Stock up your fridge with stuff from Hypermart in SM Clark or from Robinson's. The girls were never in a hurry to get back to the bar when they were with me. Dude, it is rainy season. The action MUST be good in AC right now!!! If you get a nice Hotel and let the girl watch the Wah Wah Wee TV show in between knobbers and boinkings she'll hang with you. What are you waiting for?

Sorro[/QUOTE]I would add alcohol for yourself and ladies drinks. Even if you do not drink, you will still be buying mineral water/juice/sodas in the bars. As far as ladies drinks, if you are a point and click kind of guy then these may be minimal, but I tend to "interview" maybe 5 girls throughout the course of the night before I find my target. To each their own. Then of course there are the beverages for you and your barfine should you go barhopping. I find that I often spend more on beverages in the course of a day most of the time than I do women.

Your food budget may also be a bit high unless you are really putting away the food. A meal at a very good (by AC standards) restaurant for two will set you back maybe 800 p. If you dine alone for two out of the three meals or just eat at Kokomos/MS/SM you will have a hard time spending 2000 p per day on food. I generally find that many times I get all excited and tied up in the "search" during the day/evening and realize at 11 PM that I have simply forgotten to eat all day. I am by no means a small guy and don't miss many meals, but usually end up dropping around 10 pounds during the course of a two week trip. A lot of that is due to the exercise-both walking and other activities, but part also is just the fact that food becomes almost an afterthought in the playland.

Even the girls who will stay long time will want to leave well before that (run errands, do laundry, take nap, screw local boyfriend). Better negotiate ahead of time and offer a large tip, or barfine her for two consecutive days. On one recent trip I had about half my barfines leave after one round, even after promising long time in the bar. My most recent trip had a much better ratio. But you should be aware it's possible that they will flat out lie to you about staying long time.

There's not that much to see or do or discover. Barhop and go to the mall(s), that's about it. The areas of interest in AC are tiny, tiny, tiny.

You can get comfort for half that. See, for example, the Hotel Royal Amsterdam Superior Rooms. Even RA's jacuzzi rooms are only 3000 pesos. There are others. More expensive does not necessarily equal better in AC. It took me a few trips to figure that out.
