And even though most parts of Cartagena are touristy and the poor Colombian workers live mostly out side the center there are still choices for cheaper meals and hotels. There are Hostals in Cartagena where back packers who have next to no money stay. They find inexpensive restaurants.
So, this means that you will always have the choices to go that low if you choose. Like playing BlackJack at a $5. 00 table but you are a $50-$100 a hand player. When you are on a cold streak you can drop to 5 bucks a hand and ride it out until the deck or whatever is in your favor.

I used to be really out-going with fellow gringos in Cartagena now I try and avoid them. It's sad but many gringos show up down here thinking that 200 bucks a day or whatever will be enough and when they realize that the girls won't go for less than 200K the first thing they do is free load off me. Sit in my tent, drink my beers, I've met some real chislers down there, some gringos are worse than the vendedors. The problem with Cartagena is that dolce vita and elektra are only a 5 minute cab or walk from your apartment / hotel once a girls got you off she can't resist the urge to go find another guy its just so easy she actually starts to worry that maybe she's missing another guy because she's still with you the girls especially the top girls they get into a frenzy when their away from their perch at elektra and dolcevita for any length of time. If laguito why el centro werent so close maybe you'd get great GFE like Medellin / Bogota because in big cities a girl dreads the half hour cab ride back to the club. Oh yeah one other thing. Costenas are fat and ugly for the most part and dark skinned, at any given time theres only about a couple dozen really hot paisas working the circuit none of them are really interested in TLN if that's your thing its not mine anymore because even if you arrange it before hand she doesn't want to be there she's missing out on 800K thats the average take of a really hot paisa everynight. You can see why going for less than 200K doesn't go with her plans.

Like you said you can do Cartagena on the cheap no problem. Stay in budget hotels and hostels for 10-20 bucks. Eat at cheap local shops or street vender's, and buy cheap alcohol before going to a more pricey club, thats even if you go to a pricey club at all.

As a matter of fact, I am not into street walkers or cheap casas, unfortunately I have an expensive taste when it comes to women. Last October (2010) I found a fare from Boston to CTG for $240. 00 + $50. 00 For luggage. I didn't even think about it. I bought the ticket. Then the required research began. In September and November CTG gets 5 inches of rain. In October they get almost 10. But I'm a New Englander. I'm used to shitty weather. At times the streets in El Laguito were flooded so badly, you had to take a taxi. Then the state elections took place and the Bars were closed Saturday and Sunday. It was still no problem getting laid.
I could write a page about how nice it was to deal with Juan Ventura. But it's been said before. I'll let it suffice to say that he's a gentleman, and rented a very nice apt to me for $60. 00 USD / night.
In CTG I like Elektra. If you can't close a deal with a broad, and you walk away, The whole bar knows about it.

Spend the 3mil for a gallon of Brisa and do not even use the tap water to brush your teeth with. Put it this way, then you will save about $40 on all the pepto bismo, immodium and toilet paper you would have had to buy. I know a back packer who has been going since 2003, about 34 years old by now stays at a Hostal for backpackers and he does Cartagena on less than $50 bucks (not including his room) a day and gets laid for the price of buying lunch and a media of rum with cokes. My old neighbor did CTG for a week last year and came back with all types of photos. This Colombian lady doesn't have 2 nickels to rub together. There is no way she spent more than 100K pesos a day.
You will be able to gauge your expenses. Just make sure you have enough to get home and pay the airport tax. If you call a few hostals or search the web for Hostal guides they will advise you as to where cheaper eats and attractions are. That stuff is not available on this board, sorry,

We all knew he was on a tight budget. And was not really going to monger and splash bucks, but try his luck at getting freebies. He has his sights set on CTG.
There is no reason why all here should assume he is going their route, especially since he made that clear.
