You don't need to set up meetings with 3-4 beautiful filipinas if they are Go Go Bar dancers. Even if they are bar dancers they will be incredibly unreliable and want you to meet them at 5 am in the morning. Or 4 pm before their shift. They get fined if they don't do their shift.

For me, the idea of the pre-work is to find the hidden gems, the non-bar girls, the legitimate uni Students, the formal dates. These girls still might like some financial support but are different to bargirls.

Also, the danger in making too much contact 4-6 weeks out from your March visit is that you will consume all of their conversation and tire of them. 2 weeks is the most that is needed to create a good short list.

As you know, I have lived here permanently for 20 years; I own my own condo in Ortigas and enjoy my life immensely because I have work to occupy my mind. In addition to working in the Philippines, I have lots of opportunities to work in other SE Asian destinations, and I have just completed a 50-day assignment across Lao PDR (Laos). Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand and each visit to another country reinforces my belief that the Philippines is the best place in this region for a westerner to comfortably reside.

The most compelling reasons are language and infrastructure (despite the oft-mentioned criticism of poor infrastructure in Philippines). The plethora of malls, restaurants, cinemas showing new-release movies in English (no sub-titles) in Manila (specifically, Ortigas Center in Pasig) and most other regional cities are way way better than every other SE Asian city (even Bangkok).

It is so much easier doing business in the Philippines. In every one of the countries I mentioned, I needed an interpreter beside me at all times when working, and especially when I went outside of the capital city, which my work required me to do often. In SE Laos, in a hamlet near the Vietnamese border, I could not survive on my own, as there were no english menus nor any pictures for me to show what I wanted to eat so I relied on my "minders". The possible exception was Thailand, but even in Bkk it was still difficult to communicate at all levels, whether with senior academics or the bargirls of Nana and Soi Cowboy, although the touristy parts of Sukhumvit understood me well enough. Who wants to spend the rest of their life in lower Sukhumvit?

As soon as you stray out of Bkk, you really do need to speak Thai or life becomes that little bit more stressful.

Note that I am talking about long-term residency when I refer to the difficulties experienced in countries other than the Philippines. Part of the joys of travel off the beaten track as a tourist are struggling with language, foods etc in environments where non-Asians are rare. I am referring to actually living long-term in one of these countries, a topic that is discussed frequently on these boards.

For me, Ortigas has everything that I need within an easy walk. 5 big malls plus lots of smaller restaurants dotted around in Greenhills, Cubao and QC. Choice of gyms. I can go to Makati when and if necessary and if I think the traffic won't snarl my mood. I can ignore the frustrating experiences of traffic to and from the airport because going through there is not a daily event. I can go to Cebu, Iloilo, Davao, Northern Luzon when I want. I cannot recall the last time there was no electric power in my condo (it's years ago, not months) and the annoyances of needing to visit Immigration for reports etc or the LTO for licence renewals are easily accommodated because they occur every 3 to 5 years.

I think that I live comfortably because I have leaned, as GE said in the quote at the top of this post, to accept the things that I cannot change. If I left, where would I go?

The only real option for me is to return to hum-drum suburbia in Australia, and although I enjoy greatly my 3 to 4 weeks annual visits back in Oz, I don't wish to live there again.

Hi RK, GE and other readers. Your comments echo my thoughts on SEA and are the reasons I am still planning on retiring in the PI in 2022/3. I like RK's idea of returning to the homeland a few weeks a year but have no desire to live in the USA in retirement. With maybe a side trip to the DR / land of the big boobs HA! I lived in Angeles as a young air force officer many years ago and was impressed with the culture and women back then and that has stuck with me all these years and all my travels. I like that it's ok for an old guy like me (60) to be with a beautiful, sexy 20 something or 30 something and it's more or less accepted there. In the US I'd be ostracized and she'd become culturally polluted by Western women eventually taking half or more of my life's earnings as well as my zest for life. As I have said before the Filipinas are about as sweet as they come. Not intellectual but who cares? As GE said we have our Western mates for that. I am still considering Dumaguete / Valencia as my new home with its large expat population, college students, geography and small town feel. There is a recording studio there so I can put down some tracks with Filipino musician-friends; and possibly guest lecture if the opportunity arises. Hopefully take a few side trips a year to visit friends in Cebu, AC, Subic or elsewhere in PI or SEA. It's so cheap there and they seem to honor the family and the elderly which is absent in most of the Western world. Just my. 02.

Last year, I initiated a 'breakup' after I left and a 'reconciliation' just before i arrived again. Maybe it's that time again.

Given the reality that I can see her for at most about one week per year and I have no intention of marrying her, how do I rationalise the lying that she does to cover her other foreigners?

As I understand it, you have never given her any money or help? She has never asked you for help. I would move her to the top of my list!

I don't see any evidence of her lying. She just may not have any money for her pocket wifi.

Out of curiosity, what is it that makes you her BF? You have no intentions to further this "relationship"?

Like DG8787 mentioned I have moved her to the top of my list and happy to help her out with her attitude and expanding her horizons.

I've met lots of others but this girl really stole my heart when I first met her and she's done nothing to make me doubt her commitment.

I think I just don't want to be seen as a fool to find that in two years time she gets married to a westerner whom she's been dating all this time.

So, the issue is certainly on my part, if I'm happy to meet others I just assume the same for her. But perhaps that's also not fair on her.

One benefit that wouldn't cost the dead father a thing is that if he is a US citizen, specifically and he kicks the bucket with a little kid in the Phils and he has established citizenship for the kid, they can file for Social Security for minor children, which will likely amount to as much or more than he was sending in "allowance" per month while he was alive and the kid, well the mom, monthly until they are 18. Since they graduate at 16 from HS it could even cover some of what passes for college in the Phils if the mom is really a good mom.

Since there is a high percentage of February-December style child production from monger-pinay relations its an important point. If the father cares enough to establish citizenship he probably already supports the child so child support likely isn't an issue. If he has a will how much that kid gets is up to the father citizen or not.

The real lesson is if you are an old guy with grown kids, get a vasectomy before you start mongering in the Phils and avoid this situation entirely. Don't fall in love and get sucked into a late lifetime commitment you may not be around to fulfill. The bonus will be with the mostly clean province girls unprotected sex is an aphrodisiac, they don't even have to know you are sterile. It means you are 'serious'. Condoms and pulling out insults most of them anyway. Not all but most.

As of the 2017-2018 academic year, the Philippines' education system will be fully K-12 rather than only through grade 10. So at that point college entrance age will be 17 or 18, depending on birthday. My hunch is that DS's kids are young enough that they won't graduate before 2018.

So, I am a fan of exploring the various ways that we find Filipina to spend time with. This one was a new one to me:

Through FB, friend of friend through a generic Philippines group I got chatting to a 35 year old whom is finishing up her two year stint in sexless middle-east. She's looking to meet up when she is between contracts. She'll be based in my favorite city of Cebu.

Family wise she will be staying with her sister and 2 kids. She's looking to get away with me (anyone?

A) She seems genuine, FB profile seems legit, sensible friends and posts.

B) Have had a few video chats and she hasn't flashed her tits.

C) I would be on the tab for the accommodation and food costs.

D) Seems to be another way to get an end result.

E) Would be good to have an exit clause.

My concern are.

A) Would be good to meet her before she runs off and dirties herself with a local pinoy. I wonder how sexless her mid-east country really is.

B) Last time I met with an older pinay maid in HK, she really abused my body. Fucked me senseless all night.

[/QUOTE]Don't be deluded into thinking that because she is returning from the ME she will be desperately sex-starved. I would imagine that she is chatting to many guys (not just you) and probably has been chatting for all the time she has been away.

She may also have been fraternising with her fellow pinoy OFWs in her off times. I have heard that there is a lot of "fraternising" between the pinoy / pinays in the ME because they can hide it away easily.

I met a returning OFW once who was back in the Phils in between her shifts. Her primary reason for meeting someone was to have somewhere to stay in Manila while she processed her papers (she came from a province).

I have also met an OFW who was in Manila getting her papers prior to heading off on her first assignment abroad.

She had been living a boring sheltered life in her province and went crazy for the week or so that she was in Manila meeting guys and having a blast away from her family.

My advice is to treat your chatmate as you would any woman that you meet on a chat site anywhere. Nothing special about her being an OFW as far as I would be concerned.

Since the death of DS, I've been speaking to his family in the US, and to the mothers of the children he fathered, trying to help the kids acquire US citizenship. The US Embassy has been surprisingly helpful in responding to my queries and I've found that the path to recognition as a US citizen, while fairly straightforward, is littered with hurdles, which, had the children been registered shortly after their births, would not have existed.

Surprisingly, though DNA testing may be required subsequent to interviews at the Embassy, it is not a prerequisite to citizenship approval, provided sufficient other types of documentation are provided. Anyone interested in learning more about the process should go to the Embassy website, follow the link that leads to "Consular Registration of Births Abroad" and look at the form.

For the guys who do father kids here, and who are at all interested in their future welfare, I'd strongly suggest registering the birth of your child at the Embassy as soon as possible after birth. You will save your child a huge amount of hassle by doing this.
