RIP.[/QUOTE]Bamboo Bar (Soi 3) - I think this also is dead, outside facade has totally converted into Middle Eastern food. There seems to be door for the bar in between still, but based on the looks of it- didn't even bother to go in.

So likely another one bites the dust, things do just change over time. Fond memories of past have to be put aside- I did have a couple good ones here.

Overall Soi3 has totally converted into Middle Eastern joint; and actually the Middle Eastern influence has significantly spread beyond Soi3 to Soi5 and beyond all the way to Soi11 (yes). Once upon a time Middle Eastern influence was strictly limited to Grace Hotel-Soi3 (that was 10 yrs ago) - and now it is what it is.

However, did not see any Middle Eastern hookers on the street as such, and actually even inside Grace Hotel Lobby- very different from past. Outside of Grace its the fat-chick HQ- nothing good.

But walking through it at Noon yesterday, I saw there were exactly two ladies sitting in there and maybe one male customer who was nowhere near either of them. Neither looked interesting to us. One was on her cellphone. The other waved and pointed to the barstool next to her when my friend and I walked by. We just nodded, smiled and walked back outside.

Chrome (aka Annie's Soapy massage) is on that street; are they still open?

Visited Levels couple times during my recent trip.

Its on Soi11, towards the end (Insanity is slightly further after turning left at T). Entrance 300 B, includes a drink, drinks are minimum 250 B. So essentially entrance is covering you for a drink.

The scene is good, mostly starts late- midnight and beyond. You have good variety Pros / Pro-Ams / Ams. I would rate overall quality 7 and above. The band is good, and very good dancers too.

I reached midnight, there were some hotties or rather girls that attracted my attention:

- First one, was with few friends- giggling & cackling, completely ignored my 'minor overtures', was not seemingly attached to any guy (s).

- Second one, exact same story.

- Third one similar story, in this case there was a guy feeding them drinks. But was not making much progress, the guy finally gave up and walked away- took him an hour+. I tried harder for this one but no success at all.

Only consolation to my lack of success, nobody else was succeeding either. Moreever no idea what was going on with these chics - could have been pure Ams - and/or did not find any of us attractive enough. Move On.

Now the 4th one- very young good looking chick, mid 20's, very fair, blondish/dyed(?) hair. Was with a couple of friends and a couple of guys- who were buying them drinks. And she was very busy Texting (as expected) and of course ignoring me completely. It was getting late 2:30, I was tired and drunk. I approached her directly and she just came over, collecting her a bags and drinks from other table. Her friends also came by and Intro'd.

Short conversation for a while, and asked her if she wanted to go out- she readily agreed. No talk of money no nothing.

Walked her to my nearby hotel Ambassador (Its a good hotel, they charge 100 B for night girl).

She was more than great with everything- no BS of any kind. I had hit a rare and major jackpot with her.

In the morning she was dressed and was ready to go, it seems she had a regular job that she needed to get to. She reluctantly / shyly asked for money, I have her 2. 5 K. That is all the cash I had in my wallet. She happily took it, asked me if I would like to see here again- I said yes. Met her next 2 days- Dinner, breakfast and another trip to Levels. Paid her couple of Ks each day, she took that happily (and shyly).
I tried to induce her to call her friends over to the party - somehow could not exactly convey/convince her into it. She had poor English, Google Translate could help only that much.

As it turns out, she has regular job and family, mixed parentage American-Thai, university educated, no child, no previous marriage (as she stated). She gave the impression of falling in love with me- I am twice her age, I am decent looking but late 50's is late 50's (she is late 20's). And finally she actually came to drop me at the airport.

So had a great experience, sometimes you do can find gems.

So likely joints like Levels attract all kinds of girls: Pros / Pro-Ams / Ams. You have to work a bit on them, and then get lucky.
I don't go to Go-Go bars, SWs yes - did notice a couple of good ones. But if places like Levels etc can do the trick - I could just stick to them.

Levels vs Insanity- I did not visit Insanity, it is next doors, same ownership, the charges are the same, based on general talk- Levels is described as a lot better.

At late 20's, your girl probably is very much looking to find a well put together older non Thai man who will be a life partner, supporter, around for her in the future in some way. She is way past her "Sell By" date in the eyes of most Thai men she knows. If she also has a child and/or is as well educated and suitable for non sexual events (with fluent English) as you described, it is very, very difficult for her to find a Thai man of any age willing to deal with that.

Many Thai girls think 25 is an "unlucky age/birthday/year", that things will start going downhill for them fast when they reach that age. They are probably right to feel that way and will start trying to improve their "luck" by delving into the non Thai man scene; discos and bars popular with non Thais, online dating sites and such.

Two drunks got into a fight over some chick. The farang got the best of it. Unfortunately, the beaten Thai was an off duty cop, he followed the couple to the hotel, and confronted the farang in the hotel's lobby. This time he was armed and shot, killed the farang. He fled, but turned himself in. Now he's looking at a long stretch in the Monkey House. The BIB response: Enforcing the 2am closing time! A local told me the Police and Military went around ordering bars to close at 2am.

Just don't go looking for trouble or will find 20 times more trouble than you bargained for. A pissed off Thai usually knows a corrupt cop (or a Mafia type), that can be organised to plant serious drugs in your room, bag, pockets, whatever, then you get into serious trouble. There is not proper justice in Thailand.

Drugs being planted on people is not all that uncommon.

Just don't make enemies. Avoid it.
