Ofcourse the girls insist as well. Hotels, food, girls, drinks are very cheap. Travel or hiring a taxi etc are cheap as well. Road from Phnom Penh to Sihanaoukville is excellent. Road to Siem reap is ok in some places but they are rebuiding it. I am sure once it is completed it will be nice.

Siem reap and Sihanaoukville are not really mongering destinations. There are girls but not the same as Phnom Penh.

Once you go there either you fall in love with Cambodia or hate it and will never go there again.

For me I like Cambo girls.

If you just want instantly available sex with beautiful asian girls at cheap to reasonable prices, head for Pattaya or Bangkok. There sex is very much a business. But I find Thailand too hard-edged and got tired of everyone trying to extract as much money from me as possible.

As for PP being a "shithole", that largely depends on your attitude and expectations. Yes it's a fairly dirty city compared to Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia, and the infrastructure and health care are many years behind most of Asia.

PP is definitely different. The hostess bar girls are not obliged to go out with you, and 10-30% of girls in the bars won't let you barfine them. Sometimes they want you to come in two or three times before they say yes. To me that's part of the fun, with you and the girl getting to know each other a bit before she agrees to go with you.

Of course there are also the freelancers at Walkabout, Sharkeys, Martini, and the Golden Sorya Mall and Cyrcee bar if you want cheaper, no fuss sex.

So for me PP offers a bit of everything, but admittedly not on the scale of the sex industry on Thailand. Horses for courses, as always.

I agree that you will see some former expat characters over there. But quite often you can meet very lovely Viets or just sit, have your drink and see the world goes by without any hassle. And if you don't like, hop on one block to one of the bars in the Soriya Mall. PC Hotel also has a nice bar, but devastated at anytime. The Black Cat will also do, and all without any hassle from the girls, if you prefer that. But there are many more options around that area.

I've come to Cambodia about 13 times over the past 8 years. However, my last visit was two years ago. I was reluctant to come because I figured the glory days were over and prices must be higher. Having been back for over two days, I'm pleasantly surprised. Prices for hotels haven't changed, beer is cheaper and there are way more places to drink. The quality of the women hasn't changed, but admittedly, I'm slightly over paying at the moment. That s the result of coming from a more expensive country. I'll calm down soon. In short, even though I had a not so good experience with a Vietnam from Martini's last night, I can put my full support behind recommending Cambodia as a great place for value.

i e-mailed them way back and have an e-mail reply saying that the hotel is gf;

there was only one notice, in the room, basically saying 'no **** ladies; and.

the day i checked out a guest came downstairs to reception with two working girls. he went to breakfast after reception had checked all was ok and gave the girls their ids back.

pity inaccurate information is posted by those who do not check.

pity some can't understand that different front desk workers can give different results. it is not at all uncommon in kh to have discordant policy enforcement.

PP is full of expat losers, best for you to stay with the tourists and NGOs.

I'm planning to be in PP in may, maybe you guys can help me out, is it a busy time there then as iv read you should book a hotel early. I'm looking at staying at 1 of 3 places for the first 5 days I'm there, california2, curcuit, or golded house, which 1 would you say is the best 1 for a first time visitor to PP, or can you recomend a better place.

Never stayed at Circuit but have stayed at Bolina Palace next door a few times. The street it's on (st 154) is very noisy day and night so If you value some peace and quiet don't stay there.

Never stayed at Golden House so can't comment.

Last time I was in PP I stayed at the Comfort Star 2 hotel. It's a Khmer run place on st 200 just off Pasteur (3/4 minute walk to Walkabout / Sorya Golden Mall / Heart etc). Decent rooms with good showers & beds and most importantly for me, it's on a quiet street which can be very hard to find in PP. $18 a night if you book through their website.
