I was talking about the poorest locals; no foreginers in the area are poor, but it's a classical destination for young white backpackers, so it's not top-knotch either.
There are very few good looking women in the area, but since they are poor they are likely to be interested in you, there's a big risk some of their male friends might try to rob you though, Barra is filled with young black guys with shaved heads, exactly the type you'll have to learn to watch out for during your stay even though it might hurt you to be discriminative.
I would say you'll have a lot of fun for 100 US $ a day. I spent a little more than a fifth of that a day, including accomodation in a rather simple hotel in centro and eating out twice a day.
I actually don't know much about how it's like to live in Barra, the area looked pretty deserted at night.
If you should trust the appartment owner? I don't know, that's up to you, but I wouldn't pay anything until I've seen the place and have the key in my hand.
-
Lithium, you are a geat help my friend. My final inquiries are:
1. On average how much for a girl and are they willing partners or strictly out for the cash.
2. Well if not Barra where are the pretty girls.
3. Any chance of finding a sincere girl here?
4. How difficult can the language barriers be. My Spanish is good , English excellent, Portugeuse awful!
Why are the guys shaving there heads? I was told to expect a lot of guys with dreadlocks.
-
1. I have no idea as I've never had sex with a prostitute in my entire life. I prefer getting into girls' pants the traditional way.
2. I actually don't know because I never really went to any of the poosh areas of the city. I picked up most of my women in Barroquinha because they're the poorest and the most desperate, but they're not the most beautiful. I found that the white, better looking girls were more arrogant, and as a Swede I was not brave enough to go up to them. There is a beach called "Praia do Flameng/co" though where a lot of cute middle class girls go and might be a nice spot to pick someone up. There is also this huge complex called "Aeroclube" with shops and discoteques where a lot of cute middleclass women go.
3. As in all cases, the further down the girl is on the socioeconomic ladder the smaller are the chanses that she's sincere. A wealthy white girl with a degree is more likely to like you for who you are than a woman you picked up in one of the shops in Barroquinha.
4. When I came to Brazil I only spoke basic Spanish, but I didn't find it very difficult to adjust it to Portuguese. If your Spanish is good, you'll have little problems speaking with the locals.
The guys probably shave their heads as a statement of fashion and because it's easier to manage; they all look like little gangsters.

Hi, I think the question has been asked before, but without anyone providing a good answer; who can tell me which would be the best area to stay in Salvador and possibly suggest a friendly hotel? Also, are there any other places comparable to Casquinha de Siri for variety? Thanks...
-
Fiasco,
It depends on your budget, but if you want to get by cheap I suggest hotel "São Jose" in the very centre of the city on Avenida sept do Setembro. The area is vivid at daytime but dangerous and deserted at nighttime, but could be used as a good base. When I was there 2001 rooms were about 20 Reals a night with toilets/shower in the room and breakfast included. Staff might ask you for a little bit of money if your bring up girls, but as the price of the rooms are usually negotiable, you can ask for free visits under the premise that you pay full price and is ready to take your business elsewhere.

Okay...I am looking to do a Northeast research trip.
I know all the termas in Rio.
I also know Help and the escort scene.
I also know most of the boates in Sp.
If one had to compare the racial make-up, quality, and availability of non-pros using Rio/SP comparisons...how would Salvador be described?
For example, are most of the girls BLACK, or are they just dark morenas and mulattas?
Would these girls make up the upper 50% of say...Centauras or 4x4, or would the Rio girls be considered the "stars" of Salvador?
Any details like this would be great. I am also interested in Fortaleza as well.

Hey you guys, has anybody been down in Bahia lately? I am going in the first week of June. I am bit worried, people tell me it's extremely dangerous there. Any comment? I am wondering where I can find young not too dark-skinned chicas. Any advice? I appreciated.

This being my fourth and final city on my list of places I have visited in Brazil. Salvador is the former capital and has a lot of history attached. In terms of mongering reading the some of the previous posts I came with the impression that there was not a lot going here. Lots of menacing guys with shaven heads waiting to rob the next tourist, I must have missed that part.
I at least attempted to be a tourist and when on a tour in the morning where there tour guide spoke English and there was a trainee who also came along, she was a beautiful girl, so I took a photo with her and also one of her and asked for her contact details so I could e-mail the photos to her. She seemed a bit bashful, but the other guy said to me that this is typical of Bahia women they play very, very hard to get. But once you get them they are very, very difficult to get rid off. So it looks like I have been warned sent her an e-mail asking her to get in touch, telling her she was very beautiful very photogenic, the two photos I took of her came out very well and she didn’t even try hard to pose for them.
So my first port of call after naturally checking out the previous posts on the city is to purchase a local paper with a classificados section I brought the Populares A Tarde there was a section for Encontros Pessoais which is where you will find all the Acompanhantes/Massage parlours etc. There are also several websites attached with some of the adds, I looked at a few but some of the garotas on the better websites are asking for R$200 (US60) per hour, which is Rio/São Paulo prices. I was in a take it or leave it mood so I passed on many of them but here are the web sites:
gatassexy.com.br adrianapiazza.com.br
elitegirl.com.br sexomais.com.br
mariannamello.com www.bahiaerotica.com.br
PS watch out for the Bonecas and Saunas, this seems to be a wholey Gay thing in Brasil. I was staying at the Tropical Da Bahia and after staying in the hotel in Manaus, I know they are not girl friendly especially in Bahia as they had a guard at the lift 24 hours a day literally. But I don’t know if this was because Vasco Da Gama were in town and staying there at the same time as myself.
Anyway scrolling through the section in the paper I came across a Massage place Morgana tel: 322 2889, my Portuguese is not that good but I am not sure which part of Brazil the owner is from but I asked her twice for the address and still couldn’t understand what she was saying, all I could make out it was near San Pedro. In the end I had to get a taxi driver to call her up and ask the directions on my behalf. Luckily for me he even walked me to the location, 21 Abril no:4, 4 Andar (4th Floor) no 401. My taxi driver came in and tried to negotiate a deal with the owner that if he brings in customers does he get a free ride, obviously he assumed my Portuguese was not that good. This place is located in the heart of a small market. Despite me obviously being a foreigner the owner was very accommodating to my needs, however on the telephone she told me there were seven girls there on my arrival I could count no more than five. They do accept credit cards for those who prefer that option but the bar that was also advertised was not there. The only drink that was being offered was glasses of water. Ten minutes after I arrived, another guy came in; followed shortly by two more making four of us waiting on girls, so 3-4pm must be rush hour here. One of the guys then decided to leave and come back later.
The first two girls didn’t do anything for me but the third one called Vivian was hot, so I chose her. I would say she was around a 7 or 8, the only thing that let her down was a few spots on the face but everything else was A OK!! The body was a 9, she was a mulatta although she told me she describes herself as a Morena. I am confused by these terms because although I would describe myself as black she said I would be called a mulatta in Brazil, confused I am.
The best thing about this place is the price on R$30 (US9) per session, I asked how long it was and was told 30-60 minutes no problem, this is giveaway prices. The session began with her asking if she should strip off, I can’t imagine why if I am naked I would want her dressed in bra and thongs. We made small talk and then moved off the massage table to a bed on the floor and she asked if I wanted oral with condon bj or without bbbj naturally, it didn’t take long to work that one out. I am not sure if full sex was available because I didn’t ask for it opting for the bbbj. I was asked for no more money but gave her a tip of R$10 which she strangely passed onto the boss.
During our conversation I said she was beautiful and attractive, but I don’t know what’s up with Brazilian men, because over the last three weeks I have met some sexy horny Brazilian women who all tell me they are single (maybe they are lying) and when I ask why they don’t have a boyfriend they say they don’t know why. Back home where I live, guys stop their cars for girls half as fits as these and never stop pestering them, so I don’t know what’s wrong with Brazilian men here.
The downside to Morgana’s is that it closes at 7pm, it’s a strictly day time joint. For the price and service worth a visit if you’re in between tours during the daytime.
Anyway in my conversation with Vivian I said that I would like to buy her dinner that evening and invited her to come to my hotel after she finished work. She asked if her friend could come along, another girl who works there that was also fit, naturally I agreed. Sadly they did not turn up or they may have done I gave them only 30 minutes before I left and went for dinner alone.
I would definitely come back to Salvador as it has a lot to offer but definitely spend more time here and not stay in the Tropical Hotel or any of their hotels.

Fellaz,
I've never been to Bahia, but I can't bloody help but remark about some of the coomments in the Bahia thread.
First,it's bleeding ridiculous for any racist or color conscious lad to concieve of sex tourism in Bahia, Brazil, because it has the largest black pop outside of africa. So....I have to wonder why non black open guys are even posting in this thread. Some of the sentiments here are like those of white guys whoring in Africa, yet whom have a problem with blacks. Major contradiction!
-
Chacho agreed!!
Some of the earlier posts I read were very negative, possibly stemming from the fact that maybe these guys are uncomfortable around more than one black person at a time or maybe they should travel no where in Brazil north of Florinópolis.
Kava to answer you question is Salvador safe?
The last time I was in Centuras I got into a conversation with an American who was fascinated by the fact that many New Yorkers or Americans would think twice about walking alone in a dangerous neighborhood or Central Park after dark. Yet, for some reason when they come to Brazil fuelled with alcohol, and throwing their cash around they think nothing of walking in secluded areas on the beach at nights or near favellas and then wonder why they get robbed. Maybe it would be easier to have a sign “I am a rich, wealthy tourist please rob me”
So no, Salavador is no more dangerous than Rio, its only as dangerous as you want it to be. Most Brazilians I encountered do not consider Salvador dangerous but safer than Rio and a few of my colleagues drive there from Brasília, despite the roads from Brasília to Salvador being notoriously known for being dangerous after dark.
I visited five cities in Brazil and all the locals I met in Manaus, Fortaleza, Brasília, and Recife, said that the one city they most wanted to visit was Salvador followed by Rio.
PS. Take my advice and stay away from the young girls, if you want “young looking girls” then go to Fortaleza, please read my post in that section, if that is your thing.
RioNut your question: are most of the girls BLACK, or are they just dark morenas and mulattas?
It’s a difficult one to answer since I am confused by the terms myself, girls I would consider Mulattas call themselves anything from morenas or loiras. All you need to know is Salvador is filled with many sexy beautiful women of all colours.
(Once again please read my post)
I will say that most garotas who have anything special to offer migrate down to Rio São Paulo where they can earn far more. If you speak to the girls in Centuras they will tell you which cities they are from. The sort of girls I like are dark morenas or mulattas and have breasts and booty, many Brazilian guys I encounters like slim, practically no breasted, girl who are very fair, loiras, which is good for me because that means there are more of these darker, full-bodied women left for me; so there you go each to their own. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I'm not a racist and I don't have any problem at all with blacks. Before I went to Brazil I really didn't differenitiate at all between people because of colour, but when I got there and got robbed and assaulted 9 times out of 10 by people looking a certain way I realized I had to be a racist to survive...if a couple of black guys sat down next to me in the park I would have to get up and leave even if I would happen to insult them.
Salvador isn't just dangerous at night, many areas are dangerous at daytime as well, I was assaulted by a guy with a knife just a little bit outside of the centre on the afternoon (and I was only wearing t-shirt, shorts and sandals), and the Barra beach is also home to many young thugs and criminals. I've never been to the USA though so I can't say how it's like there.
-
Hello
I was 2 times in Salvador and I was out at night several times - I never got assaulted - maybe I was lucky there.
As I know, the danger at night ist outside Pelourinho at night. So don't stroll on the Avenda Setembro at night and don't go down to cidade baixa. Parts of Barra are unsafe at night. I think it's wise not to get ivolved with young guys. If they don't rob you they'll cheat you - because they're thinking all gringos are stupid.

You guys are hilarious. This forum is interesting because for the most part you can not tell the race or ethnic origin of most of the people here until it becomes painfully obvious. In the Salvador posts the question of race has come up often. In lithium's defense I would like to say that he has been very helpful to me and greatly influenced my decision to go to Salvador this Summer. However I am offended by some of the ingnorance that is going on here. First off most of you guys are white men whom take a novel intrest in exploiting the circumstances of women of color in various regions. I wont knock anyone here for that because in essence to some extent or another I am doing the same thing, but I do have respect and appreciation for these people. I guess what I'm tryng to say is if you have issues or insecurities about dealing with people outside of the white race why dont you keep your pasty ass at home with your ironing board backside chicks.
Now on to the real issue of enjoyng ourselves and the lust that Brazil has to offer! I did not want to go the hotel route but the apartment route also had many restrictions. I am considering staying at Maxim's or the Motel Del Ray. Ive seen the websites and they look nice. Does anyone have any more information on these ?

IMHO the working girls wree pretty ugly, 90% black blood in there but you dont see many Halle Berry types, mostly Whoopi Goldbergs. Yuck!
I'm also biased because I prefer blondes. I went to Liberty, Free and Tche (both of them) and they all sucked big time. Prices were about R$150 fro 1.5 hrs, no rooms in the premises.
Even if I liked black girls, the ones I saw were fugly or so-so. I saw a 10 in the shopping Aeroclub, black incredible body and she was obviously an escort because she was w/ a 60 yo short bald italian dude.
I 2-3 saw SWs in the Porto da Barra after midnight but nothing worth 1R$. I called a couple of ads and I went to see a nice mulat, blonde kinky hair green eyes, 6 face 6.5 body OK sex nothing special but much better than the skanks at the clubs. I didn't see any good looking SW in Pelourinho either.
Salvador was the weakest of all Brazilian cities I visited so far (like 10-12) I was surprised that a city this big (3d or 4th largest in the country) there was no decent clubs. I asked several cabbies and they only knew about those clubs mentioned above. Maybe a local could post insider info on good quality girls. there has to be.
Rodrigo

I travelled to Salvator with my capoeira friedns because Salvator is the capital of capoiera. Unfortunately, because I was with friends who did not share my interest in mongering, I could not find any termas or sex parlours. However, about the race issue, Salvatore has mostly dark skinned women. Not all of them are fugly. I encountered some good looking one and even went home with a Alliyah looking girl from a dance club. Back then, I was not as flent in portugese as I am now but I had a pocket translator which helped me communicate with the girl.
I strongly disagree with Lithium that Salvatore is that unsafe. Maybe you may get conned or aggressively approached by vendors but none of them held me up at knifepoint. I also spent 2 weeks there as well. Only one member of my group was Brazillian and the rest of us were Americans. Not all of them knew that we knew their local martial art. The way these people will treat you depends on the way you carry yourself. If you act paranoid, you'll be looked at as a victim or an easy target. My group even as we split up into groups of 2 or 3 carried ourselves with confidence so no one picked on us. I also think that Salvatore is just as safe as Rio's Copacabana which is in itself a safe beach to walk. I don't even look Brazillian (I am Asian) and people in Brazil treat me as though I fit in. Brazillans HATE when people are scared of them so that is why they pick on paraoid people. Of course, learning Portugese helps a lot because communication is a major key in making friends and non-pro sex.
