In Kigali I met a couple of Kenyan expats. I wanted to explore the country a bit so I rented a semi automatic bike at Kigali Motorbike Rentals owned by a Swiss German for 9 $/ day. (FYI, I don't have a motorbike drivers license). From Kigali I drove through Nyanza (kings palace) to Butare / Huye.

Huye is a pleasant provincial city and considering it's size it has a fair amount of international eateries and hotels. It also has the highest number of students per capita of any city in Rwanda.

The city center starts in the RN1 from the Chinese restaurant 'Good to back' until the junction with the Avenue du Commerce. Follow this Avenue Until you reach a roundabout where you will find the market. The roundabout with its adjoining streets, the Avenue du Commerce and the RN1 are what constitutes the city center.

Near the roundabout / market is also the clubbing area in Rue Rwamamba. It is also the area to find cheaper working class lodging. I was quoted prices between 5000-15000 RWF. I also believe I saw a SW there during the day. Would make sense as you have the clubs and cheap hotels nearby. If you are going to sleep there make sure you bring your ear plugs otherwise you are not going to sleep much.

Restaurants:

GIA coffee shop for coffee and a variety of international dishes. (Rue de la Prefecture).

E-BIS offers a selection of Belgian food like steaks and Flemish stew. (RN1).

AMAFU YA HUYE a traditional buffet style restaurant (RN1).

CHINESE 'Good to Back' (RN1).

I often found myself eating at the Chinese for a variety of reasons. You are guaranteed to get served within 15 minutes. The amount of time I wasted waiting for food in Rwanda is mind boggling. Waiting an hour minimum is standard. And the portions are so big you actually need to bring a girl to get it finished LOL.

I checked out every tourist hotel on the RN1 between the Chinese and the University of Rwanda. They all have a similar pricing structure. Cheapest rooms 25.000 RWF to 40.000 RWF.

Worst is Hotel Bartos but they are located opposite the entrance of the first university campus that was created in Rwanda. There is no campus in the entire country that has more students than this one. If you sit outside at the bar of the hotel you will see a big apartment building at the entrance of the university. There's 4 of them one after another. They are chock a block full of hot young pussy. I know because my girlfriend was staying in one of them. Unfortunately you can't see the entrance from the bar. You do have a view from the students coming from lodgings from a dirt road but not the main road. I think if you ask they will let you have a plastic seat to sit outside at the entrance of the hotel. From there you have a direct view of the security guards checking all come and go from the university grounds.

Down the road you have Hotel Credo. Also not very good. They do have a swimming pool. 2000 RWF if you are not staying there. There is a free swimming pool in Avenue de la Cathedrale.

I stayed 2 nights in Hotel Casa but I didn't like the noise of the clubs. The best in my opinion is Hotel Mont Huye. You are in the center of town in what is kind of the upmarket area. Several restaurants at walking distance. 2 supermarkets with bakeries at the opposite side of the road, one open 24/24. Large rooms and they are located in the back of the hotel so you don't hear the traffic or the clubs blasting music at night. They also have a big terras in the bar / restaurant giving you an excellent view of the main street. One drawdown, if you have a girl staying in your room more than 4 hours after 18:00 they will charge you an extra 10 k RWF. That is if you payed as a single.

There are different kinds of mongers. Some want to fuck as many girls as possible others prefer to find a girl they want to keep. I belong more to the last category.
