a little tip for people who are staying at formule or ibis and mongering at night. take rua da carioca and veer left at the v split to rua assemblia. a citibank atm is at your left. there are lots of homeless nearby, but earlier in the night, there are taxis and buses lined up across the street so it is fairly secure to use the atm. this also is the shortest and safest path to rio branco. from rio branco, you can walk to anywhere fairly securely even well past midnight. don’t walk down vargas at night unless you are in the median or the north side of the street. the homeless on the south side of the street are aggressive, for whatever reason. also, be careful at the bus stop returning from vm early in the morning. if someone comes at you, divert to the cabs.. i go out until 3 am and haven’t been mugged yet, but it’s only because i usually wear darker clothes and walk slow, usually in shorter shadowy streets where i am just another profile and always hold my ground. it’s more of a problem on the well lit streets where people can see you move easily, like on vargas and around the entrance to vm. however, a pack of 3 medium sized dogs started to attack me in praca monte castela saturday night, but when i ran directly at them they turned and went away. so it’s not only the people that you need to look out for.
Puta Playa Trip Report Part VI Continued
Here is the continuation of my Part IV trip report covering Tuesday and Wednesday early AM. In the last episode, I was feeding seed to 2 girls in the afternoon. a halfway report on my rio trip. this is my third trip to the cidade maravilhosa, the first and third being mongering trips. this is my first report after being reader rather than a writer for the last year.

i arrived on friday night instead of early friday morning having been messed around by air france and spending an enforced overnight stop in some crappy hotel in the suburbs of paris where i got about 3-4 hours sleep. this lost me a day's r&r as i had planned to hit the termas at night having rested all day. anyway, once i had dropped off my baggage in the apartment in copa (courtesy of don at amerioca), i decided that friday night would be all about shopping for food, toiletries and a recce of the new scene on atlantica post-helpee. Thought I drop it in. It always amazes me when chatting to the some of the guys. So many mongers are most definitely not aware of the real dangers of commercial sex.
