I gave up my trip to Pattaya. I am staying in Phuket and i am happy. I commute between hotels in Rawai and Patong. I find all my happiness here. It must be said that I started to build my network with massage parlors and my Thayfriendly contacts made before my arrival in Phuket. Here it is very safe, most people are vaccinated. Why would I go to Pattaya which is in the red zone, with a 9:00 pm curfew where there are covid clusters everywhere?
Regarding the weather, it is clear that this is not the most favorable period. From memory, it rained 3 or 4 days in a row at the start of my stay (I arrived on July 3). Then some beautiful torrential downpours that lasted 3 or 4 hours. Obviously I was underneath with my motobike. The weather has been very good and also hot for the past few days. Jungceylon is closed as well as Bangla road and most of the shops in Patong. A few bars, restaurants and hotels attract visitors. Thus, going from one to the other one can have the illusion that everything is (almost) normal. We just have to disregard the 95 % of stores closed. Since my arrival, I have nevertheless noticed that there are more and more tourists, this morning the large breakfast room was full of people at the Four Point Sheraton. When I arrived on July 3rd, we were right in the little restaurant on the beach road. Little by little, more and more shops and massage shops open and massage girls.
Besides, I find Patong more depressing than Rawai and Nai Harn where almost everything is open, there are more people, Nai Harn beach is more lively.
In the evening I will dine at Baanlaimai, last night all the tables were full I had trouble finding a place.

My advice: between the covid and the weather, as soon as you have an opening, go for it !

Just touched down in Phuket a couple days ago for what will hopefully be a several-month long trip. After suffering through the visa application, the COE application, emailing hotels to arrange testing and inquire about girl-friendliness, a terrible layover, and getting my brain inspected by a covid swab, I'm happy to have finally made it.

One of my friends did that ride 5 times over the last 17 months and she says it is nice and comfortable, but she is only 152 cm and 44 kg. Masks worn the whole ride. What she rode was not a full size bus, it's what she called a mini bus, about 9 passengers if full. They do make stops along the way for additional riders and breaks. When she gave up her tiny apartment in Phuket, she shipped her few belongings separately. Luggage space on the mini bus is limited.
If you don’t trust your vaccine, you should reconsider taking that trip. It’s likely that there will be other passengers and the Thai COVID rate is high and unknown due to limited testing.
