The officiating is criminal, the play is horrendous and the hype is unbearable. And FIFA is full of itself and won't change a thing. Those idiots love the controversy because it makes headlines. This is why the US has not embraced "soccer" as a major sport (which is actually an English term, not American).

Glad to see you are so caring and concerned about the African continent. Who knew you had it in you. But they "lost" because they choked. It is sports.

FYI Kaka is a representative part of the brasilian population. Brasil has the largest born-again xtian evangelist population in the world, with about 24% being part of the born-again Evangelical community (from a 2006 survey).

You didn't get my point obviously, which was that as soon as there is a brasilian event somewhere in the world (whatever it is, not just football), there's clowns who feel the need to dress up head to toe in yellow and green.

He was playing hard in the coach's style of play that did not fit the team's talent. What hate are you referring to? The guy does great things for Brazilian's poor, underpriviledged and abused. He gives freely of his time. Because he does not monger and is an advocate against kids being abused (which everyone should be against), he is "spewing hatred" and is a "nutcase"? What do you do to help less fortunate or those that can't help themsleves? Or is your sole reason for being simply to monger (which would be sad)? Or are you a perv that likes kids? Which is it?

And Prosal is correct, Kaka's views are very reflective of a large part of a sgement of Brazilian's population. I am not a religious person at all. I personally think organized religion can be evil. As history has shown. But you cannot try to discredit the good things someone is looking to do for others (whether in the name of religion or not) simply because he not share your views..

Just in general, I'd advise anyone not to come down with the purpose of ISG activities during World Cup time, unless you have a lot of time to spend. On game days, even Centro goes absolutely dead and you cannot monger during this time. Its even hard to get food. Everything closes.

While I agree that flag-waving is silly, most Brazilians also know that. Brazilian patriotism is generally campy. Though there are always a few fools or drunks who take it seriously, of course, they are largely considered to be idiots by everyone else. No one calls for other people's suppression or censorship if they don't join in or even (cruzes!) go against patriotism. Yesterday at Balcony, there were two guys in Holland shirts. The girls gave them shit, of course, but it was good-natured shit.

Brazilian patriots by and large don't take themselves seriously while American patriots by and large do. Brazilians cheer when their team scores a goal. Americans cheer when their president bombs another country. Americans think that anyone who criticizes them is anti-American. Brazilians, today, are busily raspberrying their team and coach and planning for a better show in 2014.

I think that most of the world recognizes this difference and that's why people by-and-large find it fun to cheer for Brazil and look in askance at American patriotism.

(Finally, why in the hell would anyone other than a moron wear a USA shirt to a Springsteen concert, given that Springsteen is extremely critical of then U.S.? You do realize that the cover of "Born in the U.S.A." is meant to represent a working-class guy pissing on the flag...?)
