We'd meet up at Woodstock in Nana Plaza for a few, head to Warbler for Santos's excellent Indian buffet, then it was off to run the bars. And then after much drinking and carousing if you didn't pull, it'd be off to Nana Disco or Thermae. This was every Friday for quite a few years.

Of course it was focused on the gals, but it was almost as much about having fun. None of us would have been tempted to go to GoGos alone back then. That'd be no fun at all. I knew very few solo mongers, which seems to be the rule on this board now and in fact we always looked at solo mongers as a bit strange.

And of course it was not very expensive. I never spent over 3 k even for a big night out, usually closer to 2 and that would include dinner, drinks, and a shag. Kept it open to dudes on all budgets. Drinks were 80 Baht when I arrived. A little less than 2 usd. To have a similar night now you'd have to spend close to 10 k. There was also none of this "I can afford it and you can't" smarmy attitude that I see now. No one was looking for an exclusive experience. As stated above, it was fun, cheap, and we all appreciated it. As one friend put it soon after Baron's Massage opened, "GoGos are where you go to meet up and drink with your mates. When you want a good shag, you go to Baron's."

In addition, GoGo areas were not tourist attractions. You never saw tourist couples out to gawk at the proceedings. Could count on one hand the times I saw western women in the areas on one hand the first 10 years I was here.

So to make a short story long, in a nutshell GoGos were the center of male expat social life in Bangkok. Now, most expats I know don't go to GoGos and the younger western expats are put off entirely by the p4p scene and most couldn't afford it now even if they wanted to. So therein lies your difference.

I feel fortunate to have been here then and seen the end of that era. It was just fun and I miss it.

Those with edit function can fix most of the un-corrections but it is a pain. The easiest way to fix posts, is to copy the entire text of your post before posting, then after posting, edit the post and repaste the entire text back over what the forum software destroyed.

I really don't understand why admin don't turn off the auto-corrector function. Perhaps they cannot. Banned words rules are a bit stupid as well, e. G. Loli-tas, pis-sing, etc. Yet we can write fuck with no problem.

[/QUOTE]I was always a solo monger, buddies not needed, so I hardly ever went to a gogo for purpose of male company and socialising, I would have thought the pub and many other venues are better for that. I "socialised" with girls a little because could converse with them if they were extremely close to my ear. However main purpose of a go go was getting a girl for sex or at least trying to find one.

The exception would have been 1991 with a buddy showing me around all the places he liked, whether Soapies or bars. Otherwise would have known pretty much zero. No ISG back then. However these days if meet someone like Natty in a go go bar, it is hard to have a conversation I simply can't hear well with the very noisy music. Back in early 1990's I did go to pubs in my home country with buddies on Friday night but always struggled to converse against the noise more than others did. I have weak ability to separate different sound sources. Gogos were even more noisy naturally.

I also can't afford to go to gogos on a daily basis any more, nor go even weekly. The interest has waned, just due to expense of time and money and increasing difficulty to find a great girl. A rich guy with unlimited spare time, is in a better position. We want fabulous girls, but very few are that good. I am not the ideal customer as well.
