Bangkok vs. Pattaya
I'll chime in briefly regarding Pattaya - obviously I prefer it to the point of strenuously avoiding Bangkok.
It isn't just about price and service, though those are certainly better in Pattaya, and 'quality' is the same.
It is more about overall atmosphere - in Bangkok one is in the middle of a large, unpleasant, expensive, workaday city full of the horror of Normal People while in Pattaya one is in the world capital of sex tourism where the great majority of females parading past the eye are prostitutes. I'll let you all imagine which is more salubrious for the masculine holiday-maker.
The fantasy lives, for the moment, in Pattaya, but Bangkok is just another polluted, hectic, tense city.
Not in my opinion. As far as I am concerned it's the ass hole of Thailand. But go anyway, some people have to learn the hard way. The only thing it has going for it are the prices. It's considerably cheaper than BKK.
I think that RA was referring to the Monger's scene in Pattaya.
There are some areas of Pattaya though that are very nice for a holiday (away from Mongering areas and far away from the low lives Farangs). If you stick to the Mongers Areas, then I guess it would be like spending time between Patpong and Khao san road only.

Nic can you clarify, are you talking about areas of Pattaya or areas of Chonburi that are nice for holiday?
I'm serious as I like many areas in Chonburi, but my visits to Pattaya are not ranking up there. So maybe I've stayed the wrong places, the wrong time of year, the wrong whatever...
But to me, Pattaya is either a place you love or you hate. Very little middle of the road opinion about the place IMHO.

Tried watching a movie with Yok. Never got that far as she likes to play. Soon the play would take over. She is not one of those girls that gets distracted by movies on the TV.
How come I never had a wife/GF like that (always ready for it and starts up of her own accord often). Maybe I did have a GF or two like that, but not for long as they were crazy girls.

'City full of horror'. I know exactly what you mean, living in London, grew up in NYC. For me, quality is everything although a beautiful but ice cold girl can really be a downer. If quality is poor, then 'females parading past the eye' might not be as much fun as it could be. I'm a simple man, just looking for some cuties to spend some time with. If Pattaya is a city of skanks I won't like it, some seem to say it is, others say there's real gems about. Guess I'll have to find out myself.

Pattaya vs. BKK
I respect your opinions, RA, but wonder what the reasons are behind your undisguised contempt for Pattaya, as the “asshole of Thailand,” which seems to border upon hatred. I’ve lived here a fair amount of time now and just don’t see any rational basis for it. Surely it cannot be the level of prostitution which prevails for the benefit of us mongers? Yet I assume your opinion has something to do with mongering. Did you have a bad experience here once?
You often talk about your experiences at the Pegasus Club in Bangkok, and other ‘higher class’ adult entertainment venues, where I assume you enjoyed your share of the P4P ladies, (before you acquired your lovely ideal Thai wife of course). Granted, these types of establishments are not common in Pattaya, nor, I imagine, are the most educated and sophisticated girls in the business. Maybe the girls in Bangkok are prettier as well, (I doubt it), but I do know that those ‘high class’ ladies you favor are just as much prostitutes as the shabbiest hooker trolling her wares along Beach Road. And a sex monger is a sex monger whether he’s in Bangkok or Pattaya.
So what is your beef with Pattaya? Yes, the lower prices in Pattaya attract some unsavory people, but the same kinds of people can be found on the lower Suk in Bangkok. The only difference I see is that the majority of mongers in Pattaya are either expats or tourists on holiday, while the majorities in Bangkok are business men who usually have a lot more money to spend. So mongers in Pattaya generally wear short pants and sandals while those in Bangkok wear suits and ties. Is this what makes Pattaya the “asshole of Thailand”?
What is it that I have to learn the hard way that I don’t already know?
Just my opinion, and opinions are like assholes. We all have them and they all smell the same. I first went to Pattaya in 1973 on R&R and I remember it as a sleepy little fishing village with only one paved road. To see what it has become in the last 35 years disgusts me. It's not the girls, or the bars or anything such as that. I think what turns me off the most about Pattaya is what I can best describe as "Euro trash." Not that there is much difference from the regular "trash" on finds in BKK.
I've been to Pattaya twice and I'm now in the process of planning my third trip. I'm having a difficult time deciding whether to spend a few days in Bangkok, and your comments hit home with me. What I love about Pattaya is that you can walk around all the time in shorts and sandals without ever having to put on long pants.
Is Bangkok a dressier place? Yours is the first comment I've ever seen on this forum about what to wear. Since BKK is a more cosmopolitan city, is it normal to wear business clothes? Do any of the restaurants and/or bars have dress codes? Your answer will be most appreciated.
As far as I know, there is no dress code in BKK that is any different than Pattaya. I was refering to particular up-scale gentlemens clubs where proper attire is mandatory.
I just don't like Pattaya, nothing more, nothing less. Other people love it and that's fine. It's just personal preference. I know BKK better that I do Pattaya because of the amount of time I have spent here so that probably makes the difference.

Sewer of Thailand
I agree. Pattaya is the "asshole" of thailand and all the Thais agree. I, however, like the "asshole" of Thailand, b/c it is cheaper than overpriced BKK. There are a few diamonds in the rough, but you got to know how to find them.
It is a dump and quality is hard to come by especially these days, but it is cheap. 500-1000 ST. My advice to others is if you like the city game and like to spend lots of cash on decent quality *****s, stick to bkk. If your a cheap charlie and like dregs, head down to pattaya.
I remember, probably 20 years ago, there was a huge pipe about one meter in diameter right on the beach in Pattya that dumped raw sewage directly into the Gulf of thailand. About 100 meters up the beach were swimmers and seafood restaurants. Ever since I haven't wanted to return to Pattaya.
-
I think you should go, I think everyone should visit it atleast once if you're a monger. Personally, I do not enjoy Pattaya and much prefer BKK. But you won't know until you go and no one here can tell you if you'd like it or not. You'll have to find out yourself.
I just would be ready to leave and head back to BKK early if you don't like it and / or stay longer if you do like it.
Absolutely, you should go once and form your own opinion. If you like it stay. If you don't, go to BKK. Buses run every hour.

Levitra lasts for at least eight hours, so no problem. I hate Leonard Decrapio, but my wife has fantasies about him so I just yell "I'm the king of the world" as I mount her.

HaHa, I remember that. The only people swimming out there were Nigerians. I have a photo somewhere.
There are a few nice hotels there and it was fun to see, but I am not crazy about it there. The prices are cheaper though and more fun to go with a group.
Cheers,

I think that the pipe is still there - they have just scrimmed it up a bit better and run it further out to sea. But, no doubt if the tide is coming in - then so is the raw sewage. Swimming at Pattaya must rank with the bareback ass reaming of a Beach Road w**** as to level of comparable risk. If the microbes don't get you then a drunk Russian tourist on a Jet Ski probably will. And yet people still swim out there!
Mind you, Pattaya is Monte Carlo in comparison with The Philippine beachless shithole version!

I can understand from where you are comming from you would like it to be the sleepy fishing village but hey places change soon for better some for worse.
Sorry but can you explain "Euro Trash"????

Thats may be why I like Pattaya better I just have spent more time there and have explored it more.

Too right but don't just go to to the airport(BKK) (sorry LOL) Bangkok how about exploring more may be Chang Mai, Phuket or Koh Samui.
