Stopped by the police, AGAIN
Second time in about a month that I have been stopped by the police in the zone norte.
I actually saw these bastards lurking around a side street as I walked into Pepe's parking lot. They were positioned there, apparently, just waiting for someone to exit the lot. I thought I might bide my time a bit to see if they might move on, so I waited a few minutes before exiting with my car. No luck. Sure enough, when I exited the lot, they started to follow me. Fucking pig bastards. A couple blocks later on come the lights and you know the routine. Now, they were intent on checking for drugs and so forth, but there was no other funny business and they didn't take anything. It was the same last time, as well. Still, it's a major hassle having to play this cat and mouse game with the police. I don't know if I am just unlucky of if they have ramped up their activities, because, prior to a month ago, I had not been stopped in years.
All this leads me to the conclusion that the current game is to find some drugs or something and then begin the process of extortion, where they can go for a much bigger payout. I think it goes without saying that you are running a great risk bringing anything illegal into the zona. You won't be safe because the police can stop you at any time and for any reason. And that goes whether you are in a car or on foot.
Stopped by cops while walking at 1st street and Constitution Avenue.
The chances of getting stopped when you are walking is far less. I believe on reason is that it is much easier the cops to come up with a phone excuse like running a stop sign etc. Personally the cops have not stopped me in roughly 4 years now. I remember one time years back the cops stopped me in the alley. The cops were disappointed when they did not find anything. This is why never drive into Tijuana. It is cheaper and faster to walk across.
It's that time of the year. The season of giving! In the guise of a drug stop while I was walking along Primera street, I finally got stopped as the "Rateros con chapas" stopped their squad car and started asking me if I speak Spanish. Detained but not searched!
These cops quickly released me after I gave them my decoy wallet and expired driver license with expired credit cards and "cut and paste" Tijuana internal affairs card.
Cop even commented how young I looked on my expired. 2009 driver license.
Of course I emptied out my cash and held a death grip on my pesos.
They left empty handed with no body search and bid them a "Buenas Noches" and extended my hand but they refused to shake it!
Always be prepared Boy Scouts!!
It's been a decade since my last Christmas season Tijuana stop on foot but still Mordida-free!
