Love your wife's wit - she must be a gem ;).

She's wonderful! The kind of Thai woman that most on this board don't believe exists. Most atypical for a Thai. A perfect mix of Western and Thai. Modern in many ways, yet reserved in a lady like Thai way. And she puts me first and ensures I am happy and well cared for.
Yes, we do, indeed.
I've seen all the types described below, (most of whom behave themselves and seem to congragate in their own Pattaya enclaves), but I'm ashamed to say that the ones who offend and irritate the most are not "Euro-trash," but rather the young American Navy servicemen on the USS Abraham Lincoln who invaded Pattaya on shore leave recently.
These assholes were loud, cocky, aggressive, and obnoxious to the point where I decided to prematurly leave the bar shortly after they swaggered in. I hate it when drunken clowns jump up on the stage to dance wildly with the girls, grabbing them; acting like they are god's gift to women and that the audience appreciates their 'talents.' I don't think the girls like it much either.
Thankfully, the ship has since sailed and the fools departed.
Another reason for me not to go to Pattaya.
Yet, who can blame them? They are young, dumb and full of cum. Cooped up on a ship with nothing but guys for months at sea. No where to spend their money so they spend like drunken sailors on shore leave.

On my last trip I went to Patong Beach and Pattaya (June2008) and a couple of nights there was the USA Navy in town.
i spoke to a couple of them and had no problems don't always judge a book by its cover. The bar next to us on Soi Eric a group of them turned up with there own drink (did not buy it in the bar) and there was no respect to any of the staff or girls who worked there. I tried to have a word with one of them and just got a lot of abuse until they Americans I had been speaking
too spoke to them (found out later commanding officers) to sort it out they were not happy with them either. The group were then escorted back to ship.
IMO is that there is always a minority that spoils it or we are ashamed off.
I don't have a definitation for Euro Trash. I just know it when I see it.
I use to see a lot of it in Russia and East Europe. What I describe as newly rich, wearing cheap clothes, rude, with no class, taste, education or manners. Just money to throw around demanding service and treating people like servants.
That's just my opinion, others are welcome.
BTW, we have a similiar class of people in the U.S. My family was usually referred to "white trash" because we took the wheels off our house every time we had to move, had perfectly good cars up on blocks in the front yard and major appliances on the front porch.
That is one thing I don't like about Pattaya is the Russians and the Arabs all the ones have have had the unpleasure of dealing with are rude and arrogant. They have no respect for others at all.

Yeah, well, no one said that Pattaya is perfect, but at least we have more pussy per capita; the beautiful gulf of Siam; cool refreshing sea breezes; and a far more friendly, informal, and relaxed atmosphere than Bangkok -- the blazing hot, smog choked, asphalt jungle of Thailand.
I can put up with a few ugly Americans from time to time for the privilege of living in paradise. :)

Exactly why I prefer Chiang Mai over BKK.

Russians are Russians, but don't get me started on the Arabs...

Geez, why the sudden 'unpleasure' at Arabs in the Thai threads? They're the most friendly and respectful people I've ever worked with. Maybe there's unpleasure that they are paying more than western punters?
ThaiLearner - I now dub thee "EnglishLearner". 'Unpleasure'? Sheesh.

Hummm... do you think that our buddy Osma Bin Laden and his merry band of pranksters might have something do do with it? ;)
Oh, and I'll wager that Thai Learner's first language is not English, but I might be mistaken.

Not at all the ones in Thailand I have found to be rude and arrogant never had a problem with that before .
Sorry but what the hell are you on about I suggest you think before you comment.

How far from the truth can you be, don't just make assumptions.

I'm jealous.
I remember, probably 20 years ago, there was a huge pipe about one meter in diameter right on the beach in Pattya that dumped raw sewage directly into the Gulf of thailand. About 100 meters up the beach were swimmers and seafood restaurants. Ever since I haven't wanted to return to Pattaya.
ah ah so that means that 20 years ago "eurotrash" was there already! at least they were eurotrash when leaving hte sea after swimming there! lol

ehmm.... the "ok" guys happened to be, as you mentioned, commanding officers. Do not want to be classy, but certainly they position themselves, in principle!, on the high end, including politeness. True that politeness is not on sale only in High Street, but still...to some degrees looks like it is (on principle, I repeat)

When they get into the SE-Asian region back something happens in their mind and they start to act and speak like weirdos.
