You can change some at the Thai airport on arrival, and find out great exchange locations in Thailand. You can also pull Thai money from an ATM on your England bank account. 30 Oct is a Wed I think. Traffic will be at its worst in the morning, so not great to arrive at 7 am. (5 am is better you might manage to miss the peak) Hotel check in is at 2 PM anyway. Arrive in the evening is better or on a Sunday. Thailand has all day traffic jams except Sunday and evening is better.

To be frank GMikel, your concerns are things on little consequence. You should be focussing on other things, plus its a long time till you trip. I would book the flights first. Up to you whether a direct from LHR (or LGW?) or a layover included from BHX makes economic sense, but as Mogwai says a short layover breaks up the flight and allows you to stretch your legs a bit before the second part of the flight and probably helps combat jetlag at the far end. Consider flying through a Euro hub also (FRA, AMS, HEL, VIE, ZRH, CDG) or IST as these often have good deals. Gulf carriers have a nice split of flights about 6 hours each leg too. Use Skyscanner or Google Flights to investigate.

I'd stay in Bangkok for a couple of nights on arrival also, so much better to experience the culture shock of Thailand all at once in the big city (I envy you here, the first few days are truly magical).

Hotels will always be available and the rack rate price does not change that much over time (but some have high and low season prices, especially in Pattaya). I use both Hotels dot com and Bookings dot com, there are always price differences between the two sites and I always check both before making a booking. Useful to check out the hotel's own website too as these are often cheaper than the global booking sites, but careful here as they will most likely charge you in Thai Baht rather than Pounds Sterling and the rate will change as well as your bank adding on fees for Credit Card. Paying upfront without the option to cancel is never advised unless you have firm dates confirmed, and I think you need flexibility being a new guy in town.

Both hotel sites I use have a useful map view where you can see all available hotels' prices and location in your preferred area.

Foreign exchange is better on the ground in Thailand than in UK, depending on where you buy. In BKK airport you can find ripoff rates and better rates, so go downstairs to the Airport Rail Link entrance level where there are several booths where you can compare prices, only exchange a couple of hundred in the arrivals area if you don't have the time to go downstairs. Rates in Pattaya are probably best of all (Yellow TT exchange Booths dotted around the city) and there are several good options in Bangkok too (SuperRich, Vasu, and a really good small booth above Thermae entrance).

Brexit rates? Hmmm. Who is to say whether or not the deadline will be extended.
Here's a game to play. Buy £500 worth of Baht in your local currency exchange now and note the rate. Buy £500 when you get to Thailand in the better exchanges and look at the difference. You cannot do anything else now, currency is a fickle market and you and I have no influence on the way it goes. Closer to the deadline for Brexit should give you an idea of trending. You could cut your losses by half by hedging now or you could lose more if the Pound strengthens.

Or suck it up and just pay the going rate in October.

The new referendum could reverse everything and the Pound could go through the roof relative to the Baht.
