Colombia have it own industries, while I think the answer to why DR is so much more expensive is that they have to import everything, and only export agricultural products.
Colombia are expensive, the more advanced the product are. So if DR even does not have assembly plants for electronics, cars, homeware etc. It explains the difference.

Organized prostitution is much bigger in Colombia so you will find a wide range of prices. There are nowhere near as many sex venues in DR. The cheapest place that I know of there is in the capital and costs 72 KCOP for 1 girl for 1 hour or 120 KCOP for 2 girls for 1 hour. Most other places that I label clip joints are going to want 240 KCOP for 1 girl for 1 hour. If you pick up a street walker in the capital she is going to want at least 90 KCOP for a short time. Last week when I was in a beach town freelance chicks were telling me 171 KCOP for short time and 285 KCOP for all night. And mind you I am not talking what I would consider high quality chicks. 99% of them sport fake hair which I can not get past.
Flip side about DR is you may be driving in the middle of nowhere and see a chick waiting for a bus or thumbing a ride. You can pick her up and give her a ride and stop by a love motel and fuck her.
Although DR has a couple of fairly big cities, the country is not as sophisticated or refined as Colombia. And it can be damn cool, without central heating even in in a 4 star hotel!
But if we pick a hot Dominicana in a mayor city, I doubt she can charge more than a girl from Colombia (Bogota maybe we must exclude). That's my impression, overall. The climate in Cartagena is similar to the DR. Except for Santiago, most places worth visiting in the DR are along the coast.
Dominican women are much more forward than Colombian women. The DR prostitutes will not waste time with eye contact. They will make contact and attempt to grab you. They will even approach you while you are eating in a restaurant.
Colombian women are much more restrained. They will make eye contact but in most situations expect you to make the first move.
Beauty, Colombia wins, no question. Colombian women are more likely to exercise and take care of their bodies. Dominican women just take care of their fake hair and fake fingernails. If you like overweight women, you'll find more in the DR. In a room full of Dominicanas, 30% I would consider and 10% I would take without question. In a room full of Colombians, 80% I would consider and 50% would top my list.
Mongering prices are higher in the DR, for less quality. Diversity is much better in Colombia and Colombians are more likely to be somewhat educated. However, Dominicanas are more likely to speak some English.
The DR has some nice beaches with inexpensive food and lodging and women are readily available. They will find you.
Colombia has some nice beaches and nice cities in the mountains, with great climate. I would never consider a room in the DR without air conditioning. I've never stayed in a room in Colombia with air conditioning (but I haven't been to Cartagena or Cali yet). My apartment in Medellin has no heat, no a / see and I'm comfortable day and night.
The one advantage to the DR is that you can feel like a star. Walk down the street, sit in a bar, or just go to the beach and women will look, they will try to get close to you and try to touch you. In Colombia, except in a mongering venue, you will only get a few glances.

For 50 k you can get a prepaid card from Tigo with 3 gigs of data or 30 days of service (whichever is used first). There are also 1 gig and 2 gig packages.
In El Poblado, if you're walking from Parque Lleras toward Dunkin Donut take a right just before Dunkin Donuts and there's a small cellphone store in a mall. They sell the prepaid card.
One of the major credit card processors in Colombia has been charging 3. 5% on CC transactions for a "foreign currency conversation" fee. I have encountered this mostly in Cartagena but it's also going on in Medellin. You'll see this in your final receipt.
How to not get fucked? Tell the person charging you to do it in Colombian Pesos. They are prompted once you insert your card to choose your currency or COP. Evidently they are trained to always pick your currency. If they already did and the prompt shows you anything other than COP then just tell them to rerun it as COP. No 3. 5% charge.

I have criticized the site, which has been accurate for years, but now has gone astray. 60% earn no more than the +700-1 million pesos. 40% of GDP ends up in the pockets of the 10% most richest, so numbers are totally wrong.
But among fancy Guapas & Alfa males in their late 20th or early 30th, can't accept that Colombia is poor, even if it makes progress, the % ending up of GDP growth goes to the-haves, while the middle class growth is at 1% of the population, up to 23%, but since there has been no improvement in "Gini-Index", Colombia still has the most unfair income distribution, except 10 African countries, that are rarely capitalistic countries with a stable currency, bank system etc. Bolivia is also at that level.
Still cocky career people deny this; claiming to make wages that are on almost 1st world level, with a cost of living that is 35-50% of a 1th level country, so they have more income, net net, than New Yorkers or CEOs in Western Europe.
Of course if you take into account for all the black money, that pops up as white somewhere, a few lucky people make good money, but they are a small minority.
The exception should be the center of Bogot where wages and prices has been climbing up to if not 1th but the 2th world wages and still went up to 2014. The boom that started 2002 has come to an end. Colombia's exports depend on oil prices, 50%, while Venezuela is at 90%. Easy come, easy go!
Estrato 6, just like in Argentina, make a lot of money in their home country, until the first signs of crisis occur. Then they move the money to countries with low or none tax on capital. Let's the crisis push down worth of real estate and capital intense industries and wages; then they buy back what they sold just a few years ago, for a fraction of the cost. This will never change. Argentina has done it since the 60's, also changing currency every 5-10 years, which the "Estrato 6" class know of well beforehand. Nor will the ambitious middle class attack the real enemy, they are simply to afraid, if not of Estrato 6, so to loose one's face in public and become an odd figure. No the middle class prerfer to keep as much a distance to the poor as possible instead. And often mock them. Both personally and as a class. They don't dare to respond.
As a monger; it's an expensive hobby, and that may lead you to think that average wages are much higher than they are.
Also restaurants; You stay in Estrato 5-6 barrios and of course you can easily mislead.
The enormous influx of drugs into the US and Europe are out of necessity and impossible to stop. The major part goes to Colombian and US and Western persons, banks and companies that hide this so very well.
But for an ambitious 33 yo old economist with complex or a prepago / sugar-baby, etc. This seems incomprehensible.

I am planning my first trip to Colombia for the fall of this year. I looking for a place near a nice beach with plenty of opportunities. Yes, I've RTFF but wanted to get some specific info. I'm not a big fan of implants as I like natural breasts so I'm wondering about that. It seems a lot of these girls have implants but I've never been so IDK. I'd rather book an apt or something similar to save on food expenses and that I'll most likely have to do laundry while I'm there (planning 10 days). Its more likely with a prepago you know whom you wine and dine. I've found it on offer more in Cartagena during the day than at night. I've found it offered far less in Medellin. I've also met prepagos who would never do it out of fear that birth control pills would reduce their fertility (I'm no doctor so I have no clue if this is possible). You have to be really careful because there are lots of single moms in Colombia and abortion as far as I know is not something that's entirely legal or widely accepted. You can get a day after pill at pharmacies without a prescription but I wouldn't count on it being the most effective form of birth control.
Generally, if the prepago really wants to please you she will do it. Or if she's not careful and offers it to her customers regularly.
EDIT: beware, I've known one prepago who intentionally got pregnant (luckily not by me). She totally wanted to have a baby so she lied and got pregnant.
