this report is about some small tips to pick-up girls in night clubs (discos) of riga. i'm writing here about places i know, and i cover mainly russian places (i don't go out in latvian places). i use the word pick-up, because pro action is almost non existent in these places.

[b]general note[/b]

finding pros or semi-pros in clubs are not very easy. city is small, and everyone is knowing everyone. there is not this big anonymity of the city which could allow someone to discreetly work on the side to pay her studies. girls will even be afraid to be seen with foreigners (especially in high style place), as their peers would catalogue them as prostitute.

if you pick up normal girls, you won't get them to your hotel on the first night. this could happen, but don't count on it too much. best strategy is to write down their numbers (buy a local chip card to have a local phone, it will cost you less) and to call them back the next day. invite them for a drink in a nice place (sky bar at hotel latvia, golden bar on gertrudes 33), for diner, or even better to jurmala (beach resort located 20km from riga, bring bathsuit if you come to riga in summer). after, it's a matter of skills!

[b]russian/latvian[/b]

i'm referring to latvian crow, and russian crowd. as you know, riga is roughly inhabited by 50% of latvians (people who are here for centuries) and by 50% of russians (people moved there during the soviet era).

latvians are more down to earth and quiet. they go out in places looking more like pubs or student places, they listen to rock music, dance salsa, drink beer and are usually more accessible.

russians are more crazy and full of energy, loving everything golden, going out only in vip places, listen to russian pop, drink champagne, dream about dior glasses and vuitton bags, dress to impress, and will usually ignore you.
[i know, i'm talking about extremes, but this illustrate the difference, that's the point]

russian girls are usually prettier, and their sense of party is great (but if you enjoy more the pub atmosphere, you'll prefer the latvian way, try your luck at pulkvedis bar).

tips about what you should do/how you should look (to pick up normal girls)
russian girls pay lot of attention to the way you dress. forget the short and the italian football t-shirt. wear designer jeans, nice shoes and an expensive shirt. what you want to avoid is to have "tourist" written on your face. dressing nice is the first step, and will help you being noticed by the girls.
don't think that your foreigner passport is the key to their heart. this is in fact exactly the opposite. girls usually don't want to associate with foreigners in the first place, they don't care about your money (they care about money of course, but not yours). so the best way is to go easy on the girls about being a foreigner (don't scream "bella bella bella" or something like that). better try to act like the businessman used to be here, not the guy wanting to score before the next morning flight. try to see on long term, not short term.

the best is to speak some words of russian. it will put the girl at ease, and give you opportunity of some laughs.

always act as a gentleman, always be in control. girls here are excellent drinkers, you will be surprised.

[b]velvets, 9 skarnu iela[/b]

quite a nice place for dining (good food, quick service). especially in summer when the terrace is installed on the street. after 22h, bar is transforming to dance club, as there is a special place with dj in the back. this place is quite known for presence of tourists/expats, and some working girls are hanging around there. usually they are quite obvious (alone, at the bar, smoking and drinking cocktails).

at a time, management of the bar could arrange you meeting with escort girls (for "diner" only, rest of evening depending of will of the two persons). i don't know if they are still doing that.

as this place has its reputation about foreigners, most of the girls there won't be too much against speaking with you. good place to get some phone numbers. however, not the best girls are going there.

mainly russian crowd.

[b]essential, 2 skolas iela[/b]

young and hype latvian crowd. always lot of people from thursday to saturday. it's like a big factory, with 3 different dance floors and 6 bars. no working girls there at all (from my experience). most of the girls are young (18yo), wanting to party, usually drunk and ready to be offered cocktails. you'll probably end up paying for some drinks and doing nothing at the end, but this is useful to get phone numbers and arrange meetings the next day. however, be careful, young boys are pretty aggressive there if you talk to your girlfriend, so pay some minimum attention.

there is one dance floor, vip style, where audience is more russian and little bit older. usually same crowd than from fashion club (see below).

[b]fashion club, 2 terbatas iela[/b]

considered to be the best club of riga for high style russian crowd (local oligarsh and their vuitton bag girls). very good music, nice atmosphere. the club is quite big, two dance floors, one casino (with vip area, limited access), one sport bar and many place to sit and talk. on a saturday evening, this is the place to be if you want to see the most beautiful girls of riga. they are all dressed to impress, and you'll think you are in paradise. it's not unusual to have 70% of girls on the dance floor.

however, most of them are there to dance and have fun with girlfriends, and not to meet people, especially foreigners. if you can't speak russian, dress in shorts and drink beer, you won't get any opportunity to approach these beautiful girls. for russian women, style is important, so dress to impress if you want to go in this club and be considered. don't act like a boy in disneyland, look as you own the place, and don't dance around the girls looking like a pervert in needs. avoid coming there in packs of male friends.
stay at the bar on the main dance floor, you'll be in the center of the action, and you'll see most of the girls coming there to buy some drinks. try to engage conversation there. there are some pros working in the club, they are usually sat at this bar, but they are not obvious.

in this club, security is very effective, but extremely firm. i have seen girls harrassed by some drunk guys calling security and throwing out the guy. always stay in control of what you are doing.

[b]voodoo club, in reval hotel latvija[/b]

used to be a good place some years ago, now it's just a place for tourists where 90% of the girls there are commissioned on the drinks you will offer them. total waste of time, possibility for action is extremely limited. avoid.
mainly russian crowd.

[b]roxy, 24 kalku iela[/b]

you have hit a wall in fashion club, girls in essential are turning you down? go to roxy! a place where everything is possible! many young girls are getting drunk and crazy. many washed up pros. it is customary to try everything there, you don't care to offer money to anyone for action. this can be hell or paradise, depending of your luck. i would advise this place to end the night and finish yourself with vodka.

mainly russian crowd.

[b]studio 69, 96 brivibas iela[/b]

located in the same complex than "la rocca" (disco for **** girls, avoid), this place is a classy strip club where rich russian crowd likes to come and show off. some girls are working there (you can't miss, they are usually dressed very very sexy) and will ask you to buy them some drinks (no, you won't get any piece of real action).

russian music is often played, and vuitton-bagged girls enjoy dancing there under close surveillance of their boyfriend/sponsor.

this is quite a locked situation, with not so many opportunities, but it can be worthed to pay one visit.

i don't think you'll ever find one latvian there.

[b]final note: sponsoring[/b]

you have spent a few days in riga, and you have found one nice girl with whom you had some nice time. but now you have to go home. what to do? if you want to see her again, and be sure of that, you can become her sponsor. of course, you need some skills to put the subject on the table, but the idea is to give her monthly amount of money and in exchange she will always be here for you when you come. this can be as blunt as cash, or you can also make her some nice gift. it's only about finding the right way (some girls won't accept money, or pretend to be offended, etc).

this sponsoring relationship is not strange at all for russians. it's just some kind of arrangment between you and the girl (but in their mind, this doesn't make her a prostitute, this is different). amount of money and frequency can be very different! i have seen everything.for one pair of shoes to 1000€ per month.

Your report is very accurate.

The streets round there is Maskavas, I don't thin any girls work this streets, caka street and surrounding streets are the best for action, there are sometimes a gem or two out there, but not often, call a taxi and ask for sex excursion, try and fix a price. If you go back thru the posts to 14 month ago you will find some street reports, some of it is still applicable be safe and have fun.

Booked to see Maha, who is in her 20s, blonde, long legs. A long taxi ride out of town, get inside, and she is "busy", and all that is on offer is a big 40+ year old lady. "Come back at 9", she said. Not bloody likely!

There are a number of girls working from there, you can recognise the salon's phone number in any listings you see.

However I have plenty of experience in the working girl world. I have to say I am amazed at what some people have to say about Riga. Yes, I cam imagine it was even better pre-Ryanair, but it is still outstanding. Contrary to what people say here I have a lot of success with the local girls, as did my friend with whom I travelled. I dont think they are anti-foreigner at all. We met one group of girls who looked after us for our entire three night stay - they took us to lots of bars, restaurants, to the beach at jurmula... They could not have been friendlier. And whilst we bought there drinks etc there was certainly no suggestion of paying them. We also mixed in a little escort action and - again - they were attractive and friendly and - at approx 50 lats for an hour - relatively inexpensive.

My friend (who is nothing special looks-wise) have now been three times in the past year. On his first trip he met a young girl who ended up back at his hotel with two of her friends - and no money exchanged hands.

If you go to Riga in a small group - 2 or 3 - and don't act like a lout along with the rest of the Brits - then in my opinion the girls they are still very enthusiastic about meeting us. They are friendly, and, to my mind, amongst the most attractive women in the world.

Those of you who had a bad time in Riga I just don't understand - where did you go out?!

In Riga, according to some personal crappy (but effective) researches, half of the girls are bisexuals. If you girlfriend is hot (which I'm sure she is), and not too shy, she could try to make friend with girls in discos. To be more seductive, she will have to dress Russian local style, which means sexy and expensive. Try Fashion Club (most glamour girls).
If this isn't working, then maybe it would be time to think about some P4P. Try Roxy (lot of young girls ready for adventures), Studio 69 & Dolls (high class strip clubs, where you could have some hot dances in threesome way, better than nothing, and girls are usually quite nice).

You can also try to call some agencies, like Night Life to ask them if they have girls who are ok for threesome.

But best way is really the disco approach, nothing impossible.

I have been severaly times in Riga and a good place to pick up woman is Roxy Club in the center of the old town...you cannot miss it. There are many russian and latvian girls who are drinking Vodka. It is unbelivable how much they can drink. You can easy get in contact with them they often speak English....you can have a drink together. Some of them are semi professionals you can take them to your hotel to have a nice fuck. Of course you have to pay...it should cost something about 30-50 LvL.

I also can recommend the massage companys...see advertisment in "Riga this week". I had a nice experience with a very good trained masseuse....1,5 hours cost 25 LVL which is really cheap....you will get a 90 minutes full body massage and it ends with a phantastic handjob. If you like massage you should try.

You might have goten me wrong from my report - stolen wallet generally in Riga, not only in the apartment. The streets are extremely dangerous, especially those tunnels.

I would like to comment on some of the mistakes you made in your report - first of all, Golden bar is a gay bar. I was surprised you mentioned it, if you live in Riga for two years, I'm only a visitor and I know that already. Second - you also made a mistake about Latvian and Russian girls. Check famous models from Latvia - almost none of them is Russian. Russian girls dress more in a "plactic" way - tons of make-up, blonde hair with black roots etc. Latvian girls are more natural looking, thus prettier. But sure, if you like plastic beauties, way to go.

And one thing to mention about Russian girl. If you have the mistake to approack a Russian girl with a boyfriend (who might be at the bar at the moment) your chances to get beaten up increase extremely. Girls might be more crazy but so are the guys!

I'm not sure about which tunnels your are talking, but all I know [in the center area] are 24/7 monitored by CCTV.
Maybe I just have been lucky, but I really have a great feeling of security in Riga.

This place is a gay friendly bar, but this is NOT a gay bar! There is much gay hatred in Riga, so maybe the fact that this place is accepting gay people put it in the gay basket.
I've been there many time, and there is no way you could feel in a gay place. This is just a nice relaxing place with wide selection of drinks, and particulary nice interior design.

But Fashion, Essential or other places are not necesseraly "tourists places". Many locals are there, as well as tourists of course [from June to August], but the place is not intended specially or mainly for tourists..
Casablanca has great food, but dance hall is small, music is more rock/salsa/alternative, and crowd is mainly Latvian [students].

Many of the expats are really tired of the tourists [with honors for: Brits for the mess they can do in groups, and Italians for their often agressive behaviours to the girls], and your report was so negative I really had the impression it was coming from someone wanting to preserve Riga from more punters invasion.

Leaving in Riga on a permanent basis makes the difference. Mybe I did not explaine myself clearly. If you come here for a weekend or just a few days, with a neon sign reading "I want to fuck as much as possible" then yes, it will be hard to score non-pro.
