After Chip Lay, went to Barbados a couple of hours later. It was early evening around 6 pm. Met a very pretty 22 yo Khmer girl. She is about 5'7" and had a great personality. Drank beers with her and bought her lady drinks. Lady drinks were $3. My beers were $1.25 each.

Nov to Feb is dry season and also high season is still hot but not as humid , there will be alot of tourist in Dec - Jan air fare and hotel is higher and that is the case for most of south east asia.

The rain should have stopped,but the monsoons go on a little later nowadays I think in the tropics.Certainly the major rains seem to come sept/october with flooding and stuff.But the wet seasons are nice,the country side is green and the city much less dusty.I went for the first time last june and it was great,a little bit of rain but fairly cool and i go back next week to much the same,apparently.
Phnom penh can be 33 to 38 with 88% humidity but sihanoukville showery and 29,november could be similar.But the remarkable thing in phnom penh is how quickly it cools off in the early evening ,and mornings are lovely.
As for numbers of tourists,up 50% again probably the last year-most to siem riep though.

chip lay is also a hotel - $13/night. room was ok and on 6th floor, not much if any noise. interesting that the massage staff seems to reside on the roof and pass thru in both directions (up/down). they are available but didn't seem interested in "overnight work" - just "st". chip lay is right arond the corner from walkabout (walkabout room was $3 less, but with a rather large bag it would have made the trip up/down "difficult" - chip lay has a lift - was it worth the $3? your call yes/no) good location - lots of action and hi-speed internet most with skype available for 3000r/hour on street 51. i didn't have the albatross (the laptop) with me last trip but i don't think they can accommodate them in most if any places (had the same trouble in i-net cafes in thailand btw - use their machine - just security issues with someone else's machine)

i've tried royal highness - there are actually 2 of them almost side by side. the "better " one is in the $20 range, the lesser one is 5 to 10 (5 gets you a fan room up high - narrow winding staircase) the doors don't have any particular security and in the rooms with twin beds, one is "soft" the other is about as hard as a board. ac worked well the times i tried it. the main trouble with the location is that one might get "lost" easily the first time or 2 out - they had a map at the desk which helped quite a bit.

the maps are "zoomable" and depending on your screen resolution easily readable. the "yellow pages" feature lets you look up places by name and city. the maps illustrate the crazy quilt layout of streets and street numbering in pp.

word of additional advice - i use firefox and "image zoom" add-on. it lets you enlarge those maps to "readable" size easily

Tried my hand at massage parlors. Very disappointing especially when compared to Thailand. Hell compared to Vietnam too! Girls doing massages I find are. Hmm. I had to walk out of 2 of them.

Bun Pav (Khmer) had a few ok ones and they asked for 20-30. $4 for massage. Too the prettiest face who asked for $25. Said ok due to Mr. Johnson thinking for me. She wanted lights off because she had a baby. Oh dear.

My understanding is that Khmer is not tonal. Doesn't use Romanised script and has some very strange sound combinations but isn't actually tonal.

I am determined to master the basics before my return in September and may even take a lady friend for a few friends with the intention of her telling me the bits I get wrong.
