There are some really great options available for very reasonable prices. You might argue that AirBnB does not come with regular room service, but usually if you tell the owner / manager of the AirBnB or even the security guard downstairs, they will arrange for a maid to come and clean up the room everyday, if you want that. Towels can be arranged to be changed every day too. Sure, there will be no breakfast included but in Bangkok, who needs that. The sheer plethora of fantastic cafes, all minutes away from nearly every location makes that totally redundant.

I enjoyed that trip a lot and was able to visit the dark side and other various places of interest around Pattaya with ease and in comfort.
When I returned to BKK I had an extra day on the rental, so I drove up to Ayutthaya and later that day I drove around BKK as far as the Chao Phraya. I found driving in BKK in a car to be a big pain in the ass and vowed to never do it again. 555. But I do think a bike rental might be a good idea for a resident like yourself who knows BKK well and especially for short drives up and down the Sukhumvit sois. (Did I spell soi plural correctly?) But I think I will hold off on the motorcycle rental until I take up residence.
Grab Bike, on the other hand, sounds like a really good idea. I will give them a try on my next visit.

I used to rent bikes in Pattaya when I traveled with a wingman. It was always the highlight of our trip. But at the suggestion of guys on this forum (and enforcement tactics of Pattaya police) I stopped doing it.

Ride about 1,000 kilometers a month. There are so many places to explore in BKK and it would be very hard to do without a motorbike. The best little hole in the wall restaurants are not in the Sukhumvit area for one thing! Is it dangerous? Absolutely, I have been down a couple of times and broke my hand when a taxi driver opened his door as I was driving by. But traffic is getting worse and spending hours in a car is not an option for me.

Hello all,
I've done a little mongering back in the states, but this is the first time I'm traveling international and one of my first destinations is Thailand, and the other is Saigon later in a week. Any help is appreciated.
I'm traveling with people so bringing them back to the place probably isn't an option LOL.
Regarding mongering with the above situation, how does it all work best or what would be everyone's suggestion? Would it be best to just get my own room strictly for mongering?
I'm also researching this thread to see what's the best areas or what I can do to approach / be approached. Any help, or even just pointed in the right direction would be great.

Passing through Bangkok next week for a day!! Arriving early morning and leaving in the evening. (don't worry am back for 3 nights the week after). I got a girl I know for a meet up in the day but wondering about other options and I am not into the online stuff. I like the fun of chatting to girls over a beer then choosing. I can hang out at Hooters for lunch (just eyeing the Hooters girls asses) and I know there is the Eden Club on Sukhumvit 7/1 but wonder what other options might be available for daytime activity. Not massage places but clubs with girls. Thanks in advance for any local knowledge.

There might be some low profile exceptions, but from what I experienced the lower Suk bars (ie NEP and Soi 4 venues) were all shuttered all day. And being a 'dry' day basically no outlets sell or serve alcohol including 7-11, grocery stores, restaurants, or hotel bars. Plan accordingly.

Forget about Hooters when just across the street are Morning Night bar and Stumble Inn stocked with friendly afternoon hostess girls just waiting for the opportunity give you a BBBJ & Vaginal Intercourse. You can chat with them too over a couple of cold beers if that's what you want to do. They are very friendly. Hooters is a waste of time.
2. Don't cross off the Soi 24 & 26 Oily massage parlors as long as you are still considering a joint like Eden Club. That doesn't make much sense to me unless looks don't matter to you. IMHO Soi 24/Soi 26 massage parlors offer up the best afternoon opportunities with doable girls. But to each his own. Do what you like. Post a report afterwards.

RL.[/QUOTE]Owning a car and getting a license is easy, albeit cars are expensive here. I wouldn't and don't own a car in Bkk because the traffic is horrendous. What takes me 15 min on a motorbike could take an hour plus in a car. Parking is also a problem with a car. Not for a bike.
Yes it's hot and you need rain gear, but you get used to it.
GPS? Not a problem. Plenty of phone mounts for motorbikes.
It's actually been great not having to own one over the past 20 years. It's one of the true benefits of living in a city. When I want to get out of Bkk and road trip, I just rent. And that's pretty cheap. But in the city? Way too much off a hassle.

There are separate licenses for cars and motor bikes.
If your home license qualifies driving a car and a motor cycle you do not have go through the practical test to get either.
In my situation my license didn't cover a bike so I had to do the practical test, involves weaving in and out between barriers and driving on an elevated narrow straight stretch of pavement. Before that you sit in front of a pc screen and answer 50 questions on the rules of the road and need 45 correct answers to pass.
To get the car license even if no practical road test is needed there are three rudimentary tests set up inside the building.
Testing your breaking response.
Testing your visual ability to align moving objects.
Testing your peripheral vision to distinguish colors.
As far as I could see nobody ever fails these.
The whole process takes maybe 3 to 4 hours depending on the queue size.
Not much English spoken so better if you know a local who has the time to go with you.
The costs are minimal.
As with much of what goes here licensing requirements when driving are inconsistent. Before I got my local licenses I have been stopped more than once and told my home country license is insufficient without an international driving permit and that I needed to pay a "fine".
I always carry and show a copy of my passport, license and relevant car or bike documentation. I explain politely with a smile that a senior police officer good friend of mine in Thonglor police station told me I don't need an international driving permit and then drive on without any repercussions.
As to driving in Thailand by car or bike patience concentration and a relaxed confidence is essential to get there safely.
In Bangkok specifically you've got to be chilled especially on a bike more so during rush hours madness.
I wouldn't go so far as to say it's fun but on a good day it can be a buzz weaving in and out getting to the front of the lineup and then opening up the throttle on a clear stretch ahead.
