But this string of post started with my statement that, compared to other nations, America is still a relatively easier place for an immigrant to come over and go from 0 digits to 7 figures in only half of a life time. As for financial discipline, that's more of a first world problem for established Americans and not so much for immigrants looking to build a new life.
That's why the "keeping up with the Jones" angle, median averages, income percentiles, and other Western concerns and habits are not all that pertinent to the convo.
While not all immigrants from all cultures share the same habits, some are more materialistic than others, but more or less, poor first generation people are not looking into huge houses, Peleton bikes, expensive private schools and summers in the Cape. You will find many living in multigenerational households buying, used cars, or driving rather than flying to vacation destinations. Also, credit card debt, another American dirty habit, is hardly an issue. Without cultural first world bad habits, in some ways, success is easier with the immigrant mindset.

That being said, you know bad news always gets more attention than good news. Many people are just wired with negative bias, being drawn to bad news like moths to a flame. I remember something about negative bias being correlated with higher activity in the fear centers of the brain's amygdala.
