The thing that got me most about your situation is the fact she recorded your answer has to be some sort of blackmail if you are not good for on your word. This has red flags all over it has far has trust which imo is the most important thing 2 people can have for each other
RM69,
Before you decide to marry and bring that sweet young foreigner into the US for a few years, look into the costs of immigration. 25 years ago, when I married a Korean, I felt like the government was ripping me off, because I had to pay an application fee for almost every damn piece of paper they required. And then I was told that there was no guarantee that they would be accepted. Prices have dramatically increased since then, especially after 911. If you are dead set on marrying this girl, go for it. Best of luck to you (and thanks for leaving more pussy available for the rest of us in PI)! :D But you might want to set the wedding date for sometime after your planned retirement.
IMHO.
Prices have dramatically increased since then, especially after 911.
Yes I understand that fees have been added to visa applications, in part to pay for additional medical coverage for 911 "first responders" in New York.
I didn't get it. New York fire and police? They have medical and I suspect its very good. I could have been killed / hurt in the Pentagon attack, and my coverage would have been just the same as it is now. If I didn't retire I guess I could get VA coverage. And a medal perhaps.
Ah, yes, unions.

HW
Application fee is $455. 00. Then there are other incidental fees such as medical exam, visa issuance fee, etc. All in all cost is well under $1, 000. 00.

Medical is about $220 (If she doesn't live near Manila or Cebu, travel & hotels can add up)
Adj of Status is $1070.
Cathay Pacific offers a 1-time lower rate in this instance as a promotion, but you have to call to book it; can't get the reduced rate online. They are presumably hoping for years and years of your travel business.
I am 55 and Greg London introduced me to a very nice 26 yr old. But as others have pointed out, & in my case, I just couldn't get past the age difference. Even tho I felt she would be faithful.
Good Luck, Bob

Perhaps I was not clear. I spoke about USA fiancee K-1 fees to get her into USA. Of course other fees are payable during the citizenship process. Its all a step by step and more money and more money process.
Good Luck, Bob[/QUOT

I am just reconciling some of my accounts and adding up all the ATM charges.
Every time I withdraw 10, 000 (max allowable) pesos, it ended up costing: 200 pesos at ATM, $5 out of bank network fee and 1% foreign transaction fee. This adds up to over 500 pesos for each transaction!
No wonder the ATM limits the withdraw to 10, 000 pesos per transaction. Those fees really add up.
Any advice for getting money for a lower transaction fee?
Not sure you can limit the fees, but you could look for Citibank or JSBC ATMs that let you withdraw more than P20, 000 each transaction. That way you can get more money for the same fee. I use HSBC here in Davao and Citibank when I'm in Manila for exactly that reason.

Not advised by most, but I go cash heavy.
Not advised by most, but I go cash heavy.
Much as possible, I stick to cards, as, I don't swipe cards everywhere and limit cash to those seedy places. And the girls.
Bottom line, in Philippines, everybody is fucked. Even the locals withdrawing from ATM have a service fee, I am told.
Cheque clearence costs. And foreigners? Oh. How can the foreigners be left alone from the money sucking schemes?
You can run but you can't hide.
Not advised by most, but I go cash heavy.
I did bring $500 US cash, but that didn't last long and it seemed like the only bank I could find when I needed money was BPI with a 10, 000 peso limit.
Next time I will bring more cash and look for a bank with a higher withdrawal limit.
One time at a money changer, a middle eastern man walked in with $10, 000 US to change. I thought that was way too much cash to walk around with. Kind of like going to Vegas, I only carry what I am willing to lose.
