It does indeed look like Patong is much more open and alive now since Oct 1st. I've watched a few YouTube videos where most bars seem to be open around Bangla Rd.
CIMguy Austrian Garden seems like a very good choice, the more I read about them and about how relaxed they are about rules, the more I'm confident I made a good choice. I will try to report here about the experience with them.
About Patong vs. Rawai: I've decided to stay in Patong initially. It's my first time in Thailand and I've read that Patong it's a good choice to get familiar with things. But I will definitely take a Grab or rent a car to check out Rawai. About nuru & happy ending massage parlors: I have noticed many massage shops display the "no sex" sign right outside as well as inside. So I know I don't need to bother with those. I didn't see a girl I liked at Ole bar, so I decided to walk back to Stumble In bar to see if anyone was there. I saw a few I liked, but they were engaged with other guys, so I decided to walk back to Honey Pot bar. One fairly cute girl at the Bullet Hole bar summoned me over, so I decided I would just take her. We had a few drinks and discussed the cost and what would happen at my hotel. When we went to leave, we settled the bill and she said I still needed to pay the bar fine. Some quick math in my head made that seem impossible, so I asked to see the check again. It was on there.
