The exact day varies each year depending on phase of the moon. So it a religious holiday. It just so happens that 13 October has been set as anniversary of the King (same each year). This year they just happened to fall on the same day. Monday 14 October is a public holiday in place of Sunday 13th. This is known as "Chot Chery" day or weekday day off in place of holiday which dell on weekend, already a day off for public servants.

In some provinces (not Bangkok) "Loy Krathong" (floating of garland and candle baskets on the water) is held on same day as "Ork Phansaa".

Normally straight after "Ork Phassaa" (end of lent), we have the presentation of robes to the Monks referred to as "Thot Kathin" (this is not a dry day).

Despite Sunday 13th supposedly being a dry day, plenty of people were boozing it up. Just they had to buy their alcohol through less official sources or the day before.

Bars tend to close because the purpose is thought to be for drinking alcohol. Not the case at all for some of us.

On a tangent:

I rarely drink much so does not affect me too much. My major use for alcohol is for "leg opener". I certainly don't need alcohol dulling down my insensitive dick feelings. I try to give up wanking as much as possible, and certainly no over vigorous wanking (and no vigorous hand jobs for me. I don't like HJ), aiming to increase dick sensitivity to a nice pussy also.
