If the rice gets wet during harvest they have to lay it out in the sun to dry. Otherwise will rot and get fungus. Ex PM Yingluck's famous rice scheme had problems due to rice getting damp when not properly stored, among other things.

Many girls go back to province to help with the family harvest. I have met girls in MPs and bars that went home to help harvest in previous years. Some farms use harvester, and others harvest by hand using sickle, especially if cannot afford harvester and farm is not too large. By hand is supposed to be better but labour intensive.

That is the only reason I could think of for decline in girls at this time. Laos (near to Thailand) and some other areas may have two annual harvests if they have plenty of irrigation water available.

I see many references to soi 24 and soi 4, among others. When I try to find them on google maps, it seems like several different locations come up and the ones that do are far away from each other. Can someone clue me into the actual locations of these places, like maybe a nearby business or something I can put into a mapping site?

Then click on the "Maps" tab at the top of the page. Soi 24 runs SW/NE in front of the hotel. On Google maps it is labeled "Sukhumvit 24 Alley."

For Soi 4, go to the main Google search box and search for "Bangkok Nana Plaza." Then click on the "Maps" tab at the top of the page. Soi 4 runs S/N between Nana Plaza and the Nana Hotel. On Google maps it is labeled "Sukhumvit 4 Alley."

Nana BTS Station. Soi 4.

Asok BTS Station. Soi Cowboy, Terminal 21.

Phrom Phong BTS Station. Soi 24.

For example Ratchadaphisek Rd has all of it's side sois or alleys named Ratchadaphisek Soi xx, like Ratchadaphisek Soi 16 which happens to be proximate to one of my favorite soapies. Consequently, you will not have any more problems with future google map quests if you input the full name of the Soi that you are looking for which in this case happens to be "Sukhumvit Soi 4" or "Sukhumvit Soi 24".

Which red light area will be comparatively safe for a solo travelers? Where possibility of getting scammed is relatively low? And also budget friendly.

I can't comment on budget friendly since to me, all of Thailand is budget friendly. Budget unfriendly would be a night in a Gentleman's Club in Vegas followed by a lovely session with one of the girls. That's not going to happen for less than $5,000.

Don't forget, that when you get charged an extra 100 baht somewhere, that's $3. If a girl wants 2100 B, ask yourself whether its worth arguing over $3. My god, I saw some Chinese dude freaking out last night at Pizza Pala Romana (Fairly decent pizza near Asoke BTS, not real US style though, the best is the Quatre Formaggio) that he was shortchange 5 baht. 5 baht! That's 15 cents. They gave him his 5 baht and right in front of him, I gave the girls 10 saying here, make sure your register isn't short and keep the change. Went right over the dudes head LOL. But he got his 15 cents.

But for the casual traveler around Suk and Silom, your advice is spot on.

And remember Krung Thep is Bangkok. I had to help a tourist yesterday with that. Where is Krung Thep? You are standing in it dude LOL.

If this is your first time in BKK then you'll be amazed how many people are in the same area as you, looking for the same thing as you. Sadly you are going to Bangkok at one of the worst times. Prices are high and the baht is its strongest it's been in almost forever, so budget is not something you really should think about if you want to have a good time. What I do is plan out how much I want to spend a day on "fun". I'm either going to spend it at a massage during the day or a freelancer at night.

Good red light areas are Nana, soi cowboy, soi 11. Soi 23-3 e for massages. Just be sensible. Don't get so drunk you make yourself a target of anything, specially your bill at bars. Don't argue with locals and have fun.

Remember, the Thais are always right, if you feel you're getting ripped off really bad, then smile, pay the money and go to the tourist police. If you get nasty or gnarly with any Thai person, you run the risk of a serious beating.

I think that Thai people are the nicest and coolest people in the world, but don't insult their country, their King, their religion or act aggressively towards them.

Keep in mind also that in all of the various bars in the entertainment venues, there are tons of low lives who inflamed with alcohol and lust are just looking for trouble. Don't get involved in anything, just chill and enjoy the fun.

There was some guy sitting next to me in a gogo was trying very hard to bargain with a girl. She was asking 2500 and he was adamant on 2 k. Girl was cute and had a nice rack. So I just hijacked their conversation and told the girl I will give 2500. Though I did feel bad for the guy, but girl was hot enough that 3 k won't be big deal for her. I always say, look at the girl before bargaining.

Better, if you're new to this, pay with every drink.

Regarding budget friendly, well I don't what's your budget.

But gogos can be very expensive. Bar fine + drinks + lady drinks + and money you give girl, all included can be a lot. Thermae can be good option if you're asian.

Otherwise massage shops, though quality and service can be hit and miss. Read the massage thread.
