Well difficult to say, but seemingly you might be right (unfortunaltely). Suppliers cost increase and they will try to compensate by increase in selling rate, however there should be a market mechanism capping to much increase. Finally it might be a less profitable business at DXB or the UAE and the "caravan" will move to - what they call - "better destinations".

However I do believe the impact of prosperiity in the respective home countries will effect supply much more on the long term, but for the foreseable future I would guess everything remains more or less the same.

Visit Visas

This visa is issued for people who are sponsored by a company operating in the UAE. It is valid for two months from the date of arrival, with the option of being renewed for one more month.

Documents required:

Photocopy of the visitor's passport
Visit Visa Application form, completed and signed by the sponsoring company.
Photocopy of the trade license of the company
A Guarantee letter from the company stating its responsibility of the visitor during his visit.

The DNRD renews the Visit Visa at its expiry date if the sponsor so decides. Renewals can be made by exiting and re-entering the country to gain an exit stamp and a new entry stamp on the passport or by paying the extension fee of Dhs 500 (US $ 137) at the DNRD.If you overstay your visit visa, there's a ten day grace period in which to leave the country. After that period, each day overstayed will attract a fine of Dhs. 100 (US $ 28).


Most of the WGs overstay and build up a massive debt (in relative terms) in overstay charges. Normally if it is a long overstay this can be negotiated in the courts. I know as I have done it on behalf of a WG I once knew.

The lesson here is make no assumptions with the authorites - they have the upper hand. Use an arabic speaker to act on your behalf in the DNRD, I have done it myself - but believe me its not worth the hassle.

Seems to me that restricting visit visa renewals would affect the genuine freelancers more than the real victims of trafficking. The pimps and other lowlife won't give a monkeys that the visa has expired, in fact it even plays into their hand by making the victim even more afraid to go the LE.

I see several tiers, the truly controlled don´t have their passports (which are often recycled to other girls for a fee) so visas are not an issue.

Second tier, they use an organization to arrange the visas for a fee (balance) and these tend to be local sponsors taking care of an entire "house" of WG´s

And finally the truly FL, who arrange a visa privately (or through a close friend or relative.)

While it is a business, the visa portion is, in my understanding, just a "level" of the business, with other groups worrying about housing, recruiting etc.

Speaking of CIS only, almost without exception they surrender their passports often never to be seen again. They keep a copy of the original visa and passport, which is of course invalid after 3 months so then they just keep the passport copy with them as the hotels rarely inspect the visa.

Many of the girls effectively live in an open prison with the added fear of being picked up by the LE and thrown into a real prison - one once said to me at least you get three meals a day in Sharjah womens prison! Hence the alchohol abuse and attitude often commented on in this forum.

Just enjoy the mongering and the false comfort of Dubai, if you scratch the surface its just as squalid as any other city that tolerates the sex trade - if not more so.

Many return home for a vacation and return, I have know a few girls that have flown home on short notice because of family crises back home.

This is not to say there is not explotation, and I have herd rumours of increasing Chinese "mafia" involvment and would be suspect AMPs.

In some cases I know the girls were aware of what they were coming to do, in another girl was employed selling fake goods, DVD's etc. door to door and decided to change occupation (her choice, to make more money), I think this type of thing is common. A lot of girls are offered job that turn out to be really shitty and pay is far below expectations, they start moonlighting around the clubs, then become full time.

No mamasans as such; friends helping with language problems. They are free to change their living accomodations and associate with whom they wish. If arrested, their friends swing into action, getting their possessions and an air ticket home to the jail/deportation center. All are allowed their own mobile phones.

They've known what the job entails, if not quite the toll (ONLY SOUNDS easy). I too have met some who were moonlighting from day jobs, but most are here as [i]independent businesswomen[/i].

A number of their fellow countrymen do exploit them - renting accomodations from a chinese "broker" more expensive than doing on their own, but as most only have a visit visa, renting is difficult at best. Everyone takes their cut. A house boss is just that: enforces house rules: meal times, quiet times, etc. But where/when/how the girl works is up to her. As in any industry, there is a whole support structure there to meet the needs...

Have also heard about crimes, robbery/mugging/burglary, where the perpetrator knows the victim will not go to the police.

Debt is owed to the friends/family who got them here. I've heard some girls express concern that the friend they [i]sponsored[/i] is not working hard enough to pay back the debt, and have been concerned about recovering the money (no doubt social pressures help). Debts are paid back as the borrower decides, not enforced.

With Chinese New Year here, will be interesting to see how easy it is for girls who went home to return. Chatting to "Little Sister" today, Miss Fav cannot seem to get a visa to return. I would have thought it would be a slam dunk: 30, had gone home before and returned, no problems. But had been here on a visit visa for the last 2 years, making the "monthly" visa runs. Too many stamps in the passport? Or company no longer willing to sponser? These days, who knows?

11B, thought that was a nice round-up of the scene. Could really relate to your overview. As I've said before there is a hell of a network in the UAE and World-wide that seems to facilitate just about anything for the girls. It's not perfect but it works.

Can definately confirm the mafia involvement. I knew they were around already but met them for real. Had a bit of an incident last year where they showed up after a bit of an incident with my GF and a WG. Took a bit of 'plain talking' and 'understanding' behind the bike sheds. Since have encountered several times and respect both ways such they have offered their help anytime! Strange but then we know this is a crazy place. They seem to be involved in managing a few girls and where they live, fixing problems so business isn't interrupted but seem more interested in fixing male labour on building sites, counterfeit goods and DVD's etc. but I keep well away from all that.

PRC life is crazy at times but they are survivors for sure. A lot harder than soft westerners are used to. Can confirm some of the crimes but they prefer to keep it 'in house'.

Heard some girls decided not to go home (PRC) because they were worried about getting back in again.

Know of some girls together same sponsor company doing via run today, all seem to be stuck in airport and being told 'unlikely' will get visa. Some saddened because they wanted new year with friends but others seem to think tonight would be good for business.
