Saturday Early Night Tour
Yesterday I somehow needed to get out of Livingstone's for some time, and decided to walk around a bit.
Champagne Charly's
I made my way down Sukhumvit, walking on the even side of the road, nearly alone, on a Saturday evening. The first venue which caught my eye was Champagne Charly's, close to Asoke, opposite Soi 23.
This is the new Champagne Lounge, before close to Soi 4. The owner closed it down some time ago, and re-opened "Champagne Charly's" with partners approx. 3-6 month ago. Concept is a upmarket Lounge, targetting basically Thai business men and their foreign visitors. From outside it looks quite exclusive, seams to have 3 levels with different activities (Lounge, Karaoke rooms etc. ). I was not dressed appropriately, otherwise I would have checked it out. In my POV this club has no chance to survive - bad location, no parking space, the economic crisis - looks like a major investment will go down the hill.
Nana Plaza
The street became more crowded in the lower Sukhumvit area, some tourists there, most of them single men heading for Nana. Some couples, standard monger couples (older farang man with young Thai woman walking hand in hand), some tourists couples (not walking hand in hand).
It was a no-alcohol day, today (Sunday) are governor elections here in Bangkok. I expected some of the bars to be closed (nearly everything in Soi 33 was closed) - but everything was open. For the early night there was a surprising action at the parking lot area already - seams to be the LM market at that time. I remember some LBs usually waiting at the entrance of Nana and on the opposite side of the road there, but yesterday they obviously held a kind of meeting at the parking lot.
The ground floor of Nana Plaza was relatively empty. The beer bars there had very few customers, and not too many girls were waiting to be hunted. I looked for some friends inside Voodoo (gogo bar), quality not worth to be mentioned - but nobody there. The bar nearly empty, 10 girls dancing unmotivated ... one soda water and I was out of it.
Rainbow 4 - some customers in there, but it was early. Around 50 girls dancing, average quality, some really young and skinny ones, some lookers - but I wasn't really impressed. A mamasan came to me and asked for a drink. A mamasan asked for a drink!!! OK - that was it, I was out of there.
On the way out I realized a construction site in the upper level area - obviously a new ST hotel is built opposite to the already existing one, level at 2 and 3, on the Rainbow 4 side close to the entrance/exit of Nana Plaza.
Cialis/Apcalis
Shortly after I left Nana I was offered Cialis/Apcalis on the street (still Soi 4). I checked the packages - it looked ok, but I strongly recommend not to buy this pills from street vendors. Just walk down to Sukhumvit road, turn left direction JW Marriott, and after 30 m there are two pharmacies, that sell all vitamin pills you might need, the originals as well as generics. Don't take the risk to buy that stuff from street vendors!
Soi Cowboy
Soi Cowboy has changed a lot in the past year - nearly all bars have outside areas for smokers in front of their entrances. Beer bar style areas with tables and bar stools, and you can sit there watching the people promenading the street up and down.
It was not crowded either, most of the seats were not occupied. So I had mercy with one of the bars and invested half an hour for a bottle of water. That bar owner made the turnover of his life last night :) .
It's really funny to sit there and watch the people. I saw some undecided hunters passing by several times - one guy so obvious, that I started to count - approx. 8 times up and down the road in 30 minutes. The elephant passed by only one time :) ... Then a leather-dressed guy on a Harley Davidson drove in and parked his vehicle directly in front of Suzie Wong. Of course he got all the attention he obviously needed.
Raw Hide - the bar is closed for rennovations at the moment. They had a fire there 10 days ago.
The only stunning girl I saw yesterday stood in front of Suzie Wong and seams to work there. Absolutely beautiful, Isaan girl, dark skin, eyes like diamonds - eye catching. I was tempted to go in there to watch her dancing, she was obviously a dancer there dressed in a silk bathrobe the dancers usually wear when they stand outside of the bars.
Sharks
But I decided to skip Suzie Wong's - the first SMS were popping up, Mrs. G. was suspicious about my whereabout. I replied I was in Cowboy - and all hell broke loose :). But that's a different story.
I walked into Sharks, at around 9:15 pm. It had some crowd, but there were still benches in good observation position free. The girls quality is quite high - if one likes young and skinny girls. Most of the girls there are younger than 25, and have really good bodies. But - if they have breasts they are faked, otherwise they are [nearly] invisible (ok, I admit, that's a bit exaggerated). Seams that this bar has a special concept for a specific type of girl. Faces are mostly average - I did not see a really beauty - but we all know: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
The bar seams to be well organized, the drink came fast, announcements to the girls when dancing shifts had to change. Music system excellent, crystal clear sound. Half of the customers Asian (I was surprised), Japanese and Korean, this has obviously change, when I was last time there 2 years ago this was a farang bar.
If somebody likes this type of girl Sharks can be recommended.
The Penalty Spot
On my way back to Soi 33 I passed by another new place that opened just a few weeks ago - The Panalty Spot. Restaurant and bar. The owner is German, as I heard the same owner as Tilac bar in Soi Cowboy. Some girls were there, obviously girls from Tilac.
The bar is very nicely designed, a huge investment, and has a small outside area for smokers, too. That area was quite crowded, inside the bar only a few tables occupied. The problem with the outside area is that it is directly located at the Sukhumvit road. It is very noisy when the cars are passing by, and all the exhaust gases and the street dust ...
Then menu shows German and Thai food. I tried some German food - no comment. Let's give this place a chance to improve, they just opened. But if you really want to eat Germany food Otto's in Soi 20 is still the place to go, and the German Beer House in Soi 11 has also good German food.
I think that The Penalty Spot will be there for some months, and then disappear. The location is too bad, and though the place is really cozy there will not be enough customers to establish a reasonable business on the long term.
...
I made my way back to Livingstone's - our place was quite crowded last night. Both restaurant and Sports Lounge had customers, staff and girls busy. Some new girls had their first day - and it was Maids Party day. I sat with a customer until late, discussing all issues of this world. He always stopped talking in the middle of his sentences when a maid was passing by. Finally he left me alone at my desk ( :(, such a Bestard) - and joined the maids in the bar. What do they have what I don't have :) ?
Later Mrs. G. discovered that I was back and killed me - and now I am dead. Too sad!
