Rio as a mongering destination. This will probably create a loud discussion, but, in my opinion, Rio has never been such, not on a world scale like Thailand or the Philippines. There has always been a local scene and some foreigners have discovered it and enjoyed. The only real sign that it was starting to become a destination was the emergence of Help which started as a locals scene, attracted a foreign audience and started to grow. When it got too big, they killed it.

VM, the mongering pride of Rio, is pitiful on a world scale. Just think of Patpong Road, Soi Cowboy, etc. All of the streets in Bangkok that are filled with tourists. Now that is a mongering destination. In my opinion, Rio is for the Cariocas and others have come in, which is fine. But I don't think there has been enough tourism to really change it. Note that PP says he never runs into gringos when he is out of Zona Sul and I agree. Most mongers are aware that we are exploiting the economically disadvantaged. Levels of poverty is the primary reason that mongers travel to these areas. I spoke to one monger who compared himself to the NIKE cheap labor factories. Making shoes and having your body used by an ugly old monger who has no concern for your health or well being are very different.

I like to think most mongers do make an effort to treat the prostitutes with some respect. Reading some of the the posts from some mongers on this board, makes me feel that a few might have very sad lives. I suspect for what ever reason they are or have become more damaged than their victims.

Man where does it go!!!! I just was thinking of my two trips to Rio back in the year 2000 - 10 fricken years ago!

The first trip to Rio was for 2.5 weeks exactly 10 years ago this month! The 2nd visit was for 3 weeks and it occured in October/November of 2000! I should look back in the old reports (if they go back that far) and see if I could dig some old reports out. Just a thought.

Help was my main stay at night but also partook of the many "Houses of Rising Sun". I recall a very favorite girl of mine. I met her on my first trip......yes Carla was her real name, oh the memories. I sometimes wonder where she and the other ladies ended up at? Got married? Had kids? Got their throat slit by some thug? Died of HIV? I don't know. I do know that it is a hard life.

Oh and although I have not been back to Rio in 10 years I have been to many other countries to play. Just this year alone I have been to Colombia twice for a total of almost 2 months. But that is for another section.

I can relate, TM. I haven't been to Rio since 1986 (!) but remember it as one of the best times of my life! It's back on the "to do" list again, for sure!

I recall meeting a carioca on Copacabana who was maybe 18, tiny thing with big jugs and a tight little box who spoke no English. Nevertheless, we went out dancing with her two equally cute sisters; and also went to the amazing New Year's Eve gathering on the beach where millions of Brasilians wear white clothing and bring candles and white flowers to the Goddess of the Sea. It is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen in my life! I personally enjoyed that more than carnaval!

Day 15

End of trip thoughts – first, I would gladly return to Rio. In preparation, I would get much more experienced with Porto, where I wasn't frustrated so often due to the language barrier. 2. Others who are at the same economic level have not taken this job and put themselves in a position to be "exploited". Explain.
3. Are any of these "economically disadvantaged" being forced to lie with any of us?
4. First world countries have fuck houses (Bunny Ranch, FKK, Amsterdam red light) and street walkers. The job description exists no matter the location's economic standing.
5. When mongers are not fucking in "these areas", 9 times out of 10 they are still fucking in other locations for a higher price per fuck.
6. When total cost is taken into account a monger undoubtedly spends more traveling to "these areas" than he would mongering on his home turf.
7. I think the mongers are the ones being exploited. Take a look at the price disparity of a SP who receives 50 reais/hour in the day time at BA 85 when servicing locals, but commands 200 reais/hour from foreigners later in the night at Balcony.
