Pattaya Reports

Thank you Scout, Frazer, LBM, NoCBJ, Goyave & Shark for posting replies. I am planning to keep diary and would post newbie’s experience.

I am a bit confused about the scoring system being used by guys for looks and body, is it possible to standardise? My friend and I went to Belgium, BKK and Aus. We both have very different choice. I would try to upload pics if girls let me take, how much do they charge for pics.

I used motorbike for years but have not ridden a scooter. Can you rent a bike in Pattaya? Scooter has gears in hand but bike has gear paddle. Anyone knows a good area where I can rent bike and is it safe (thefts etc, do I get insurance)? usual rent?

Because of all this unrest I was thinking about going to Pattaya directly from the airport instead of staying in BKK first as usual because I am getting paranoid about the news reports of the violence. I have never left to Pattaya straight from the airport to pattaya especially at 11:30 pm is this safe to do?

Did you see any red shirt or protest at Pattaya at all ,I heard there are some small protest but not at the toutrist area but near rangyong .

At 11:30 pm, it's too late for the bus, but you might want to book a private taxi, for instance, with one of the companies mentioned here: [post]1018102[/post]

You may also find a regular taxi at the airport (just follow the "taxi' signs, don't listen to the touts!) even at 11:30 pm. Their rate is approximately the same than with private taxi services, but their cars are usually not as recent and their drivers not always as careful than with the private companies.

Anyway, you should have a phone number with you then to contact your hotel, so, if the driver does not know exactly where your hotel is located, he will be able to contact someone at your hotel in order to get directions in Thai (it's better than to give your driver a map, according to my own experience, as many Thais don't know how to read a map apparently!). You should also notify in advance the hotel staff about your late arrival.

What if thing get worst if the red shirt go to the airport and start protest there ,they will need to closed the airport and thing can get ugly fast ,but again might not be bad to get stuck in Pattaya for a few week but will be hard to expain that to your boss .

You arrive in Patts at 1am when all the action is going on so you hit the ground running and don't miss a beat. If you arrive in the morning, as I did last time, you have to wait until everything cranks up later on in the day.

I'm a very frequent traveler to AC and HK, but haven't been to Pattaya in 4 years.

Naturally, my first trip back is coinciding with the civil war. I arrive next Thursday night at BKK airport. From what I've seen, the Red Shirts don't seem likely to block the airport (they haven't done it yet, and the Yellow Shirts got a lot of flak for it last time), but I'm worried about this curfew they're thinking of announcing. Will this prevent me from getting away from the airport if I arrive at 11:30 pm? Will my driver be allowed to get in to pick me up?

I'm also wondering about the hotels in Pattaya; I've read in some places that a lot of farangs are leaving BKK for Pattaya, Phuket, and etc. for safety reasons. Does anyone have experience with hotels "losing" their pre-paid reservation because someone came who was willing to pay more? (I'm staying at Flipper Lodge).

Thanks for any advice people may have. If you want to meet up in Pattaya I'd be more than happy to share tips on the Philippines or Hong Kong for anyone interested.

If you don't bring a lot of luggage you can go up to the departure level and try to get a taxi which has just dropped off passengers in the outer lane for 1000B. Or the easiest to take a taxi from the official taxi stands downstairs for a flat rate of 1500B (I did so 4 days ago). Also a lot of operators in Pattaya can pick you up for 1000-1200B if you book in advance.

All the unrest is making me change plans and think of heading straight to Pattaya instead of staying In BKK which I had planned to do.....

1. Thanks for advice already on getting a taxi direct from airport.

2. Suitable hotels? Is the Amari suites or Amari Orchid OK for location and OK for bringing a girl back. Since I am on holiday I prefer a bit of comfort and the prices right now are good - but any advice on hotels would be welcome.

I feel like I have to start all over again with research - so far have seen good advice on Pasadena Lodge but given the temperatures would like somewhere with a pool if possible.

What do you guys pay for the girls ST?

I used to pay 700 baht but always had the impression I was either grossly over paying or under paying.

Is there such thing as a standard price these days?

I am arriving Bangkok on 25th may morning at 6 AM. However I am not sure if I should cancel my trip due to curfew and deteriorating situation in BKK. I was planning to stay in Bangkok for few hours and go to Pattaya in evening same day. However due to current situation in Bangkok I am planning to head to Pattaya from BKK airport itself. Last time I took a bus from airport and it was smooth. Not sure if I should take a bus again or take taxi. Please advise on if If I should come or cancel my trip and is it safe to take a bus in morning time or sould I take a taxi for Pattaya.

It happened to a friend of mine in 2008 (that was the yellow shirts then who blocked the airport) and of course, he then said to his boss that he was visiting the cultural sites of Thailand and its neighboring countries. I copied hundreds of touristic pictures of Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam on several compact disks for him before he left the Land of Smiles and explained him briefly where the shots were taken. Apparently, it worked fine for him then! ;)

I haven't checked the Amari Orchid recently, but a few years ago, it was not "girl friendly" and the "joiner fee" amounted 1000 baht per "guest" then!
