People on this forum typically discourage such places as the guests often get fleeced moneywise but receive the same merchandise that others paying much less get but it is your call. I have had women in water, but it may not be something that is openly do-able. I do not know what luxury the luxury resorts provide but having spent many nights at various Four Seasons around the globe, I wonder about that in the DR. Finally, if you are into white women, you should not come to the DR and if you do, do not expect to pay any less than the European prices as the women are flown in from elsewhere.

I do not know how to get a fare from Washington to SDQ for $380, but I do know how to get one from Orlando to SDQ in June for a smidgen under $300, and that is by flying Aeromexico to Mexico City and then connecting on to SDQ. This fare includes the $145 Dominican taxes, so is probably about as cheap as you can get.

There may be some fares using Aeromexico or possibly Avianca, both of which fly to SDQ, from the Washington area. However I do agree that it would be helpful if OK stated what is the basis for his fare, how it was purchased, out of which airport, and so on, as this would be more helpful to others than just stating he paid $380.

Actually, I would also like to know more about the cheap fares from Florida too, as the one I have mentioned is the cheapest I know of, but requires an overnight flight on the outward leg, and in next place is Spirit airlines from Fort Lauderdale, which is no great bargain considering that they will charge you for a $28 for a carry-on bag and $21 for both coming and going and the baggage is free including a checked bag on Aeromexico, so that could be an extra $100 with Spirit over 2 legs of the journey. You can also take Spirit to Santiago (STI) for a hair less, but arriving at 3:00 am is pretty inconvenient and can involve extra expenses too.

I suppose that both of these fares are similar, but a lot depends on exactly how far you are from each airport, what the parking charges are, and so on. Adding a 6 hours drive each way to and from FLL will increase your costs in gasoline and food. Having two persons traveling together may change the balance of driving and parking charges.

All the flights to SDQ out of Miami are damn expensive, and while you can fly to SDQ from Florida via New York or Newark, it is no great deal either, although I have done it when it was the best fare available or a better time of arrival. You can fly from Tampa to San Juan, Puerto Rico, but the flights from there to the DR are also pretty expensive considering it is a short hop. Any flight that takes you first to the AA Miami hub and then to SDQ is more expensive than the flight from Miami.

I recommend the hotel / flight packages on expedia. I fly the redeye all the way from Sacramento to NYC, Newark or Atlanta and then down to SDQ or STI on Delta, United or Jet Blue for around $750 or $850 depending on number of nights at a 3 star (usually 4 to six nights). With minimum layover (about 12 hours flying). It's bound to be cheaper from your locations.

The price I paid includes $42 for my checked bags. You may now stand and be corrected. You will note the flight times are excellent Arriving at 230 pm leaving plenty of time to enjoy the day and departing at around 4 pm. This gives me the option to bus back to SD the on early bus same day I leave if I choose to. Another great option is splitting your airlines. Delta has flights to POP one way from DC leaving at 6 am for about $230 and get in before 3 pm. The return flight on Delta is 400 plus and takes 25 hours to get you back. I split my airlines. I catch Metro Bus back to SD and take Spirit return flight for $240 that leaves at 4 and gets in at 11:30. Depending on what I have waiting in SD I someimes go back to SD the night before my flight. Lastly nothing I have ever posted is exagerated or untrue. I go to the DR 4 times a year because I maximize my time by getting the best deals for everything. I usually catch the publico from SD airport for 100 pesos. Just an example of small things that save money and can be fun. I enjoy the 4 hour ride to Sosua on Metro bus. You leave at 8 am and you are on the beach by 130 pm. At the end of the day I really enjoy my time in SD and Sosua. I have about 10 non pros who will drop everything and come to SD to hang out with me. If my realities sounds hard to believe I understand. I have a strong drive to maximize my opurtunities and this is how I roll.

Thanks for the details, it explains a lot. Personally I would just pay the 200 use extra and just fly into POP comfortably. You fly Spirit, the most undependable airlines there is. They are always late if they show up at all. Not even going to talk about the way they treat you with baggage and if you ever have to call customer service they will put you through the main menu for ten minutes before you can speak to a live agent.

The bus you talk about for 100 pesos to SD is not as nice as you make it out to be, you have to transfer at the depot to another bus. You might get a bus with air conditioning and you might not. You might get some grimy workers or bad kids, all of this while totting around luggage. Not to mention the spectacle of a gringo standing around a dirty bus depot with luggage and probably a pocket full of cash. Personally I would pay the 30 usd for a clean air conditioned ride in a private taxi to make sure I make it to SD with all my items.

Your travel dates are to leave on a Tuesday and return on a Saturday. Those are the most undesirable travel days of the week so naturally they would be cheaper. Most mongers would never travel on these days even to save a few dollars. Then you have to spend 290 pesos and 4 hours traveling across country, truly an adventure that I have done 20 times but I would have just paid the 200 and went straight into POP.

Thanks for the detailed info. When I'm in Florida I pay 500 usd to fly direct from Orlando to SDQ. Its the Brazilian 190 airplane that Jetblue uses. No middle seats, two rows with two seats on each side, TV headrest, seats 80 people, basically its your own private jet. I arrive fresh and relaxed, no problems. Its worth the 120 use more to do this verses the adventure Old Kool gas to go through to save a few dollars. That flight you posted about goes West then comes back East basically doubling back. I would pay extra to avoid that.

I guess it all depends on ones perspective; I'm the kind of traveler that doesn't mind paying extra for comfort, reliability and quickness. Whereas others want to take chances, go out of their way, make transfers while waiting in crowded airports, all to smile and say they saved 100 bucks.

The following is a comprehensive list of the advantages of flying on Spirit Air:

Your comments seem to be what you have heard not what you have done. While spirit will no give you a soda they get you there on time in my experience. I fly them about 8 time a year. No better or worse then the other airlines I use. . The flight times are excellent on Spirit. I took the time to learn their rules and procedures so I have no issues. 200 dollars is 4 sessions with the ladies. Obviously you have never caught the publico from the airport. It is nice toyota mini bus with normal Dominicans who I chat with while riding. It does not drop at a depot but on a street where several cabs are waiting to assist you. The days I chose are my days off. To each his own. I am sharing my methods that work for me. I spend my money wisely I can do more excursions. Getting to the destination is not a big deal to me. I see flying like riding a bus it is transpotation.

I have only flown with Spirit round-trip on one occasion, and that involved a total of four flights from DFW to MDE. Here is what I like about Spirit:

Value: I paid $218 round trip this time last year. Now it would cost me about $200 more on Spirit, but. Other airlines would charge at least $100 and worse still. That brings us to:

Flight Times: As Old Kool pointed out, the flight times are excellent. I could pay more to fly other airlines to many destinations in LA, but I would usually be sitting around with a long layover in ATL, MEX or some place not really close to my destination or my home. Flying "comfort class" on Delta doesn't compensate for a long layover on your flight back home.

Baggage: I am certainly in the minority here, but I actually like the fact that Spirit restricts free carry-on to a small size. Why? Because too many people are bringing excess baggage on as carry on, leaving the rest of us with no room in overhead bins. This happened to me twice on the past two intercontinental flights I flew on resulting in delayed boarding and departure or extreme comfort on my part because had to lay my carry on at my feet, leaving me no leg room on an 18 hour flight.

Cons:

Connections at Ft. Lauderdale Airport. If you think Spirit charges too much for a beer, don't even think about the concessions at FTL. Its robbery plain and simple. $9 for a can of beer to take out? I recommend carrying those small bottles of liquor you get from the liquor store for a buck and serve yourself. Also, the TSA checkpoint is the worst meat grinder yet. I heard one guy holler out as he exited security screening: "I feel like I've just been raped!

Spirit has rules that are different but once you learn them you have no problems. Their flight times are excellent they get you where want t go early enough so you can enjoy your day. I guess now they have changed to a different weird size, presumably smaller? Most uncomfortable seats I have ever found on a plane. Rudest employees I have ever found on an airline, or at least the rudest ones I can remember. I hated the whole experience so much I threw the return ticket away and flew back on an actual airline.

Maybe if I lived in Florida I would feel differently, and I wasn't flying to the DR but rather to Panamá, so others' experiences may have been superior to my own. If I am ever so broke I have to fly on that airline, I will just stay home. Or, I would if I had a home.

Guys who have followed my posts know a banged a pair of sisters. Well I am still talking to both. I was planning on hooking up with both of them in a month but they want to come the same day.
