I'm not currently on the ground in Medellin but I follow Colombian news and politics closely so here's my brief take on recent events and how it affects the current security situation.

First Medellin: The spike in murders in Medellin was precipitated by the shutting down of the mafia group called the "Oficina de Envigado". That caused a power vacumn in the criminal underworld that erupted into violence as the lessor gangs fight for turf. Much but not all, of the aforementioned spike is due to the violence in the barrios. Places where any sane foreigner has no business. I'm basing this on my memory of the events so anyone with better intel, please chime in.

In my case, this won't affect me because (1) I'm really not on the street that much anyway and (2) when I am it's in the hills of El Poblado, the nice malls, Parque Lleras etc, etc. Relatively safe places.

Recent bombings: While infrequent, unfortunately they still happen from time to time. There were a couple in Cali and Buenaventura the past few years and this bad one this week in front of Caracol Radio in Bogota was, most likely, the FARC in there perverted way saying fuck you to new President Santos' overture to them for a negotiated settlement.

That's how they operate. They're evel bastards with boundless capacity and desire to maim and kill.

Return to pre-Uribe era violence? IMO, no. So much progress was achieved the past eight years that Colombian society won't accept it and the Colomibian government and security forces are much more skilled and better equipped to maintain security.

I admit it is all disturbing but the bottom line is that the country is not regressing to the bad old days. Just remember, it's still Colombia. Use common sense and if you keep a comprehensive security mindset at all times you'll enjoy it.

Thank you for useful comments and contributions. Just a friendly advice. When you want to "quote" a previous poster you seem to be copying and pasting the previous post. It is obviously extra work for you and makes it a bit confusing for the readers. It is a lot easier if you just hit the "Quote" button in the lower right corner of each post.

Just so the thread doesn't veer completely off topic here is some new information. Abydos (details attached) is getting 100k half hour and 120k full hour after a recent increase from 80k. Blame it on the recession I guess. The increase is about one week old.

I don't think I read this here before but Loutron and Abydos has the same management and ownership. Loutron gets 200k because it is in El Poblado.

Quality of the girls: I will leave it to others to debate.

After spending several months in Colombia this my thoughtfull conclusion.

mid july was my 2nd trip to colombia but first trip to mde so here's a few of my thoughts/experiences

i had spoken to frank hoping to stay at his place but it was full so he put me and 1 other guy in hotel el portal no 2, a reasonable place for mongering but i wouldn't stay there again, i prefer a few more comforts.

so 1st night in mayorista the pickings didn't look too good so just as i was about to give up a very pretty little number showed up who hadn't even changed into her night work clothes and convinced me to part with 50k for an hour of fun. it was too, even though she is a rep001terbrain, bbbj and some energetic fucking but i won't tell her name because i want to say she scared me a bit when she produced a little bag and gave herself a nasal kickstart.

another experience with street girls was one night when we booked fernando, a very knowledgable monger guide and driver, to show us around.

Medellin is boring if you always stay in the mansion waiting to be spoon fed, and are scared to venture out. There is the metro, Parque lleras, tours, scenery, shopping, great restaurants and beautiful women to just watch.

Medellin women are average?

Unless you are blind Medellin women are not average. In my opinion they are as a group the prettiest women on the planet. To say they are just like all the women in South America, again makes me think that you have no idea of what you're talking about.
