The red / black scenario is not the same as with girls. With the red / black scenario, the probability is 50% each roll of the dice. But with girls, far less than half have a disease, so its not a 50/50 situation. Still, eventually its bound to catch you, right?

Never used a condom although the US military encouraged it. I was told you could pick up NSU from other than sexual sources. I did the same bad things, swam in less than clean hotel pools and ate in the roadside BBQ stands but the women were all different. Never really thought about the consequences until the med techs started reaming my dick with a pipe cleaner but next trip, back to bare backing.

Is there limitation for largest note value for street exchange offices in your experience? I have some 100€ notes I rarely see my personal life. I am planning to take some with me. Only some. How I got those is irrelelevant to my question. I am leaving to Phils next week and I would not like to bother to go to bank here exchangining into 50€. In my home country most of the shops have ultra violet light sensing devices for checking notes up from 50€.

To add a bit more information.

Of the 21 women that I had sex with. 6 were bargirls, so they have regular checkups; 3 are freelancers, one bieng very infrequent, one frequently in the business, and one in between.

The point of my post is that the real likelihood, or risk, of contracting an STD is small. We are told through government propaganda incessantly that to bareback will surely result in an STD.

I am pointing out that this is just not true.

The story with government propaganda about HIV / AIDS is similarly distorted.

The Australian government publishes figures for HIV / AIDS annually. The number is about 1100 per year.

This is then promulgated to the average punter that they have to glove up when they are scruffing their regular gf, or they will get AIDS.

But the govt does not give a breakdown of that number. So that it is not possible to get a realistic understanding of the real risk. The actual numbers are available, but hard to find. When the number of cases contracted by homosexual sex, and intravenous drug use are deducted, the number of cases contracted through heterosexual sex in Australis, is about 5 per year.

That is. 5 cases among 10 million people of sexually active age. This means that the likelihood of contracting AIDS through heterosexual sex is miniscule. Forget it.

My doctor is slowly getting his head around the stastical concepts of likelihood and risk. Once you have a basic understanding, and hence the real numbers to look for, then you can get a realistic understanding of the likely outcomes of your behaviours.

Similarly, the government of the Philippines publishes figures for HIV / AIDS cases in the Phils. But keep in mind that there are vast numbers of baclas, who practice homosexual sex. And I have no feel for the number of intravenous drug users. So it is impossible to form any understanding of the likelihood of contracting HIV / AIDS through bareback sex in the Phils.

So think before you mindlessly propagate government propaganda.

Your earlier post was definitely along that vein. I agree that HIV/AIDS data anywhere may not be too accurate so that is fair enough in your latest post.

Why not just leave it up to each of us to do whatever we want to minimize risk? You and I have eliminated one of the major risks resulting from not using a condom; that of impregnating a partner, because we have been vasectomized.

In my case, I want zero risk when it comes to my health and well-being. I don't really care about statistics, likelihoods and risks when it comes to personal health. I have already had 1 STD 13 years ago. I never want it again. Even if 1 in 100 girls can infect me, I still don't want to roll that dice.

I appreciate your wisdom in most matters but I just can't follow why you are crusading against using condoms, especially for those guys who are NOT vasectomized like you and me, because that's the way a lot of guys here will interpret your strongly worded advice..

I need some advice from some of the long term PI residents. It seems the last few times I have visited Manila I have come down with a terrible case of diarrhea. It has been so bad and so painful that I cannot leave the bed or bathroom for 4-5 days at a time. Loss of appetite, uncontrollable pain and cramps, no energy. I spend all of my time either on the pot or sleeping. The pain and cramps are so bad that some times I feel I could pass out from it. I am taking Cipro which seems to do OK but I am wondering if anyone has a more sure fire and faster cure for this problem?

I have pretty much decided that the cause is "filtered water" in restaurants. So I am going to stick entirely to bottled water in hopes that I can eliminate the problem. But with hopes of living here full time, it makes it pretty hard to imagine being sick like this on a regular basis.

[/quote]in the 8 years i've lived here, i think i've had it twice and both times took 500 mg. cipro pills twice a day for five days. i felt better within hours after having taken the first pill. i never drink any water-filtered or not-that doesn't come from a bottle, but i think i've probably developed some fairly strong antibodies since i've started living here. when i lived in africa, where dysentery was a constant threat and more of a problem for me than it is here, i avoided all uncooked vegetables unless prepared at home; ditto for fruits that hadn't been peeled.

I have lived here for 14 years and never had any problems whatsoever. The filtered water served in restaurants comes from the same sources as all the bottled water that you think will solve your problems. No water supplier in their right mind would flog contaminated water to restaurants.

Remember that very few pinoys use toilet paper and prefer the old "hand and pail" trick so rest room door latches, taxi door handles, stair rails, paper money etc all carry a heap of potential sources of contamination.

I think your immune system must be weak, so you need to build it up by getting as many antibodies into your system as you can to try to build up your health levels, other wise your plans to live here will be thwarted (unless you can isolate the cause).

Google for it. The analysis should, however, be done by a lab that has experience with tropical diseases. A negative result could otherwise be obtained. Talk with your GP.

I have had it twice but where I caught it is not clear (Thailand, Phils) and the symptons were mild. I only got the idea it could be amoeba because of an article in New Scientist that stated that 50% of the people in tropical countries have parasites (either worms or amoeba). Usually doctors in the West have little experience with tropical diseases. I must have had it for 2-3 years without anyone making the right diagnosis.
