About a week ago I had a freelancer near Soi 19 for 500 baht, at her suggestion. I'm a stingy bastard but even I wouldn't dare offer under 1000 on Sukhumvit in order not to be offensive (in Pattaya it's ok). She wasn't a hag, a cute and clean 35 year old with no tattoos or fake anything, albeit on the plump side. Repeated a few days later too. At that price, and with good service, it's a no-brainer.
Unfortunately, quality is no better than it was before Covid, with numbers reduced. The scene isn't a patch on the mid-2000's when lower Sukhumvit was full of genuinely attractive women, some of them part-timers, many new to the scene, looking to score a 1000 baht plus maybe a boyfriend / sponsor. There are no desperate young office girls or university students, not even fresh farm girls coming back to the scene. It's the same old not-too-desirable Thais who can't even imagine themselves doing any other job, mostly dregs with a few borderline acceptable ones thrown in. One surprise are 10-20 stranded Vietnamese, some of whom are a well above Thais in looks, and a few still have that girl-next-door cuteness, not hardened with ugly tats.
I get an impression that a higher percentage of girls choose to be freelancers, since bars don't offer much in terms of job security or an advantage in getting customers. That suits me just fine as I'm not a drinker and it's easy for them to accept the 1000 baht that a session is worth to me, without the peer pressure or inflated expectations within bars.
To summarize, it's easy to get plenty of attention as well as decent service for not much money at all on Sukhumvit these days, IF you can manage to pick a girl among the not especially impressive offerings. On several evenings, I just couldn't being myself to choose, despite a few hours of browsing.
In the end, I must admit I feel rather conflicted and uneasy about how desperate the girls are. Refusing an eager offer makes me feel borderline guilty when I know another punter won't be along anytime soon. A few freelancers have even called out to me as I walked along with a girl already in tow. Unless you're blind or drunk out of your mind, the vibe is not exactly fun. Misery and desperation are not fun. Still, with the whole world burning, I'm happy to be stuck in Bangkok rather than elsewhere.[/QUOTE]Thank you for touching on an aspect of the current conditions I have been wondering how to express here or whether to express it at all; the lingering buzzkill of saying No every day and night to ten times more needy ladies than I have time, money and ejaculate to help. And, as you point out, it isn't as though the overwhelming options in this perceived "Pecker Paradise" are hot young babes eager to satify our every sexual desire. Most are hard cases in terms of looks, age, demeanor and, little doubt in my mind for my requirements, service levels and skills.
Where it has effected me the most is among my favorites who for months before the lockdown were already hitting all bases for me in every department and I was delighted to have them on call for a great low cost if not free LT any time I wasn't finding exactly what I wanted in a new hunt.
During normal times I might not choose to see any one of them but once every 2-3 weeks. And they didn't pester me very much in between because they were busy with other expat regulars here and there, too.
But NOW most of those other expats got caught outside the Thai borders on business or family issues, there are virtually no new and acceptable options for those favorites so I am in the position of picking and choosing who to help survive every week from among a stable of honeys, all of whom have certainly earned and deserve my loyalty.
The book and movie "Sophie's Choice" comes to mind.
And how to squeeze in the cute early 20s freebies I have been enjoying every few days and who I sure as hell don't want to "break up" with now?
Add to that dilemma my personal interest to get out there and experience more and new girls as well as do my part to encourage a MUCH higher level of proactively offered service from the better looking girls in the usual venues we'd find them in around here to hopefully markedly improve the overall ongoing scene for me and for the eventual returning punters after more and more flights are resumed and it is not as much 24/7 fun as many on the outside might understandably imagine it to be.
